Abstract

Students have difficulties in understanding chemistry subject contained mathematical calculation like on reaction rate topic. Cooperative learning model STAD type can be an alternative for the material contained calculation whereas animation media is for conceptual understanding. The objective of the research was to determine the influence of cooperative learning model STAD type combined with animation media for the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Palu in academic year 2012/2013 toward the students’ learning outcome on reaction rate material. This research was quasy experimental using posttest-only control group design. The population was the whole eleventh grade students of science program with the sample determination using purposive sampling method. The sample were class of science program 2 as the experimental class which using cooperative learning model STAD type with animation media whereas class of science program 4 as the control one which using convensional learning method. The research results showed that cooperative learning model STAD type combined with animation media at reaction rate material gave students’ learning outcome higher than convensional method.

Abstract

Cholesterol is an important element in the body needed to regulate chemical processes in the body, but high amounts of cholesterol can lead to atherosclerosis which ultimately will have an impact on coronary heart disease. This study aims to know phytochemicals contained in an avocado (persea americana mill) seeds’ extract and determines the concentration of the avocado (persea americana mill) seeds’ extract can lower mice’s blood (mus musculus) hyper cholesterol levels in optimum. The animals tested were male mice which totaled 15 mice induced by propylthiouracil and high-fat feed. The mice were divided into 5 groups with different treatment. The treatment I, II, and III were given avocado seeds’ extract with a concentration of 10%, 20% and 40% respectively, treatment IV was given simvastatin as a positive control (+), and treatment V was given standard food and aquades as negative control (-). The data gained was analyzed through analysis of variance (ANOVA) statistical test which was followed by Duncan’ stest. The research findings show that avocado seeds’ extract is considered as positive to contain flavonoids, saponins, and tannins. The concentration of the avocado seeds’ extract which lowers blood hypercholesterol levels in an optimum way is 10% (b/v).

Abstract

Bivalve os one marine animals that can efficiently accumulate to heavy metal. This is due to they livein the base layer of the sediment in the aquatic and they are moving very slowly. Therefore, it has beendone a research about the analysis of consentration of lead (Pb) in the bivalve polymesoda erosa sp andthe bivalve anadara granosa at the aquatic of Salule Pasangkayu West Sulawesi has been reported byusing direct spectro. The research’s aim was to analyze concentration of Pb as heavy metal in the bivalvepolymesoda erosa and the anadara granosa sp, The results obtained that concentration of Pb at muddyplaces was higher than at sandy area. Level of Pb showed that Pb exceeds quality standard in both clamswhere in the blood clam was 3.75 mg/Kg and 3.857 in dry weight, while the Mangrove calm showedthe result of 5,00 mg/Kg and 5.25 mg/Kg in dry weight.

Abstract

The research was conducted at SMAN 7 Palu for the purpose to improving student learning outcomes of Chemistry through the use of Cooperative Learning Type STAD methods (Student Teams Achievement Division) on the chemistry subject of reaction rate. Population of this research was all students in class XI IPA SMA Negeri 7 Palu academic year 2012/2013, consisting of 3 classes. The sample were in class XI IPA 2 with total 34 students, as the experimental class that used cooperative learning STAD method and class XI IPA 1 with total 37 students as a control class (not used Cooperative learning STAD methods). The data were collected by using the test instrument. The data collecting result use the statistical analysis t-test with the prerequisite test for normality and homogeneity tests. The study shows that the mean value of student learning outcomes use cooperative learning STAD model is 7.66; the mean value of student learning outcomes without using cooperative learning STAD model was 5.57. Based on the hypothesis testing using statistical t-test in the right side earned value thitung > ttabel is 5.36 > 1.66 with degree of freedom = 0.05 and dk = 69. The results shows that the use of cooperative learning STAD model could improve learning outcomes of students in reaction rate of chemistry subject.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the moisture content, ash, carbohydrate, protein and fat from a combination of flour cocoa and cassava as a raw material manufacture of biscuits, as well as knowing the favorite test (favorite level) of the biscuits that have been made with several variations of flour cocoa and cassava. The method used is the gravimetric method, combustion method, phenol method, Kjeldahl method, and soxhlet method.The results showed that the combination of cocoa powder and cassava with some variation of that, variation A (25%:75%) had a moisture level of 18.0%, 2.2% ash, 2.7 mg/100gcarbohydrates, 1.7% protein, and 7.2% fat. Variation B (50%: 50%) had a moisture level of 4.0%, 3.4% ash, 63.9 mg/100 g carbohydrates, 4.8% protein, and 19.2% fat. Variation C (75%:25%) had a moisture level of 2.0%, 9.4% ash, 127.9 mg/100gcarbohydrates, 6.7% protein, and 27.4% fat. These results indicated that the levels of nutrients in the combination of cocoa and cassava flour increased with increasing variations, especially for ash, carbohydrates, protein, and fat levels with the addition of cocoa flour by 75% but the moisture level decreased, and the biscuit trials have shown that the best treatment was the Variation B (50%: 50%).

Abstract

The research about the effect of storage time of tumeric (curcuma domestica vahl) for inhibition of antioxidant has been conducted. The study aims to determine the effect of storage time of tumeric (curcuma domestica vahl) for inhibition of antioxidants as well as to determine how much inhibition of antioxidant found in tumeric. This study used a variation of storage time namely 8, 13 and 18 days. The extract of tumeric was obtained by maceration method using ethanol. The antioxidant activity of turmeric was measured by UV Vis spectrophotometry in which DPPH (1,1-difenil-2-pikrilhidrazil) as a reagent. The absorbance measurements was carried out at a wavelength of 517 nm to determine the percentage of inhibition of antioxidant in turmeric and vitamin C (as a positive control). The results revealed that percentage of inhibition of vitamin C is 56.68%, while the percentage of inhibition of turmeric decrease during storage. Based on the data obtained, turmeric with storage time of 8 days is 43.96%, turmeric with storage time of 13 days is 23.27%, and turmeric with storage time of 18 days is 11.92%. This study showed that the effect of storage time on the inhibition of antioxidant turmeric are characterized by a decrease of percentage inhibition of antioxidants in turmeric during the storage period.

Abstract

This research was done due to known that most students got difficulty in learning and understanding chemistry material particularly on alkana, alkena and alkuna concept. This problem occured because there was still any teacher who use conventional method in delivering the material. To make the material easy to learn, not boring and easy to understand, the teacher needs to give a learning media. The objective of this research was to increase the students’ learning outcome on the material of alkana, alkena and alkuna in SMA Negeri 2 Dolo by applying Mollymood aid. The population of the research was the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Dolo in academic year 2012/2013 with sample was 26 students of Class XA as the experimental class (given Mollymood aid for learning)and 26 students of Class XB as the control one (given conventional method). The technique of data collection done through instrument such as achievement test of alkana, alkena and alkuna. The data analysis result obtained average score on experimental class was 23.35 with deviation standard was 2.66 whereas for control class the average obtained was 20.73 with deviation standard was 2.77. Hypothesis testing result obtained tcounted = 4.59 and ttable 1.67 with significant level (α) = 0.05. Based on the research result, it showed that there was a significant difference between students’ learning outcome on chemistry taught using molymood aid and conventional one of the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Dolo in academic year 2012/2013.

Abstract

Mercury ion extraction using the liquid membrane emulsion technique with the variation of benzoil aseton concentration in membrane phase and variation of pH of external phase has been done. The sample containing Hg2+ ions with a concentration of 20 mg/L. Variation of benzoil aseton were concentration of 0.01 M, 0.015 M, 0.02 M and 0.025 M, whereas variation of external phase pH used were 1,5; 2; 2,5; 3 and 3,5. The measurement of extraction was conducted by using UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The results showed that the largest percent extraction on the extraction of mercury ions in solution by using liquid membrane emulsion was at a concentration of benzoil aseton 0.02 M with the percentage of extraction 79.33% and the pH external phase 2 with the percentage of extraction 85.30%.

Abstract

The caring of community and local government toward sustainability of seagrass ecosystem has not built properly as well as toward the ecosystem of coral reef and mangrove, as a result, this plant needs attention for its sustainability. One of sea grass’s species which is avalaible abundantly in Banawa district Donggala regency, is enhalus acoroides type. This research aims to know the level of nitrogen dan phosphorus in enhalus acoroides which grow in the bay of Kabonga besar, Banawa district Donggala regency. Determination of nitrogen level used kjeldhal method which consisted of destruction, destilation, titration and phosphorus used wet ash method which continued to use the UV-Vis spectrometry. The result showed that the level of nitrogen in sea grass (enhalus acoroides) type was 1.89 in percentage and phosphorus was 0.413 in percentage.

Abstract

The basic principle in the learning activities is student-centered learning. This requires a learning model that empowers students to be more actively involved in the learning process at school one cooperative learning model Two Stay Two Stray (TSTS). This study aims to determine the effect of cooperative learning model TSTS to see a difference in student learning outcomes between cooperative learning model TSTS and conventional learning on the subject of molecular geometry. The study population was all students class XI Science SMAN 2 Pasangkayu Academic Year 2013/2014. The study sample consisted of two class, namely class XI Science 2 as many as 25 people as the experimental class and class XI Science 1 by 27 people as the control classes determined by purposive sampling. Data collection was conducted using test instruments which consist of 20 items. Testing research data used t-test statistical analysis of the two parties with the prerequisite test that tests for normality and homogeneity tests. Average score of student learning outcomes using cooperative learning model TSTS is 74.06 while the average score of student learning outcomes that follow conventional learning is 66.5. Based on statistical analysis by t-test hypotheses two parties obtained tcount = 2.83 and this is in the region of rejection of Ho, namely -2.00 and 2.00. These results indicate that there are differences in student learning outcomes given cooperative learning model TSTS with conventional.
