Abstract

Library catalogs need to demonstrate availability of its collection, the library requires for bibliographic information from is collection. Users need a tool library  catalog for retrieval of library materials. Catalogue compile in to symstematic list of library materials with descriptive information about the author, title, publisher, date of publication, the physical form, charateristic of material and place.Library of UGM PUSPAR  a support unit GMU Center for Tourism Studies, as part of supporting the smooth operation of the field of torism research and assessment. His collection of book, journals, research, proceedings, lokakarya, and other scientific publications.This study aims to : 1. simplifying and uniting PUSPAR UGM library catalog, catalogs cards and catalogs electronic into one main database in Indonesian language; 2. know the exact profile of the collection; 3. knowing the number of documents with the appropriate classification; 4. provides a rang of collection neatly arranged according to the catalog; 5. without knowing the exact collection of catalogs; 6. know the exact physical condition of the documents / collection (broken, missing, incomplete, borrowed etc.)

Abstract

A school library that exists in all levels of schools is a facility that supports the process of productive learningfor thefuffillment of information needs especially literature and the information deriving from the teachers. This article is written in response to the problem encountered in school libraries particularly at the elementary school at Subdistrict of Minggir District of Sleman with poor facilities, limited collection and aquisition and management. These conditions will indirectly affect the utilization of the school library by the teachers at elementary schools. This writing is meant to help teachers at elementary schools to understand the meaning of the library within the school. Approach to the analysis is based on the theory of social construction introduced by Peter L. Berger mtd T. Luclcrnan. We can use the concept of meaning and rests on thefact that there are objective reality, symbolic reality, and subjective reality. It is emphasized that the objective reality would affect the return to a subjective reality through a process of internalization. Subjective reality is inseparable from the process of socialization. Subjective reality affects the externalization process at the end. This condition can be associated with the birth of understanding what has been and will be done by the teacher in an elementary school library in the symbolic reality. Finally, this study reveals that there are two typologies ofteachers; professional staffmembers and deserter.

Abstract

Circulation service is the front line in achieving library objective which is to fulfill users needs through information resources available in library. Based on the statement, this research is intended to know how success of Gadjah Mada University/GMU Library is in playing its role and function to fulfill the information needs of users. Users attitude on the circulation service is that may be negative or positive. There are three components which support each other in attitude building i.e. cognitive, affective, and behavior. The research aims to: 1) to find out users attitude on the circulation service of Unit 2, Gadjah Mada University Library 2) to find out attitude differences based on gender, age, and scientific-social sciences on the circulation service of Unit 2, Gadjah Mada University Library. The research was held at Unit2 GMU Library and took sample of 100 respondents of graduate students that were registered as GMU Library members. Analysis method that was used in the research was descriptive quantitative with a statistic method. Analysis and hypotheses testing used Oneway Anova. The conclusions of the research showed that: users attitude on the circulation services were good and fairly good. There were no attitude differences on the circulation service based on gender and age. There were significant attitude differences between scientific students and non scientific (social) students on the circulation service. Keywords : library users, users attitude, circulation

Abstract

The title of the research is "The chronology of the application of open source information system Koha in the library of Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta from 2006 to 2010. "The background of this research is that the development of the information technology demands the library to use the technology. UMS library was the first and its private-university library using Koha system as the automatic system in Indonesia. Kohas complete features and its development raised confusion UMS library staff. The use od English language and the small number of the community of Koha users in Indonesia sometimes lead to misinterpretation.The method used in this research was the qualitative method, and its approach was the case study. The reason of using these was that the case happened was unique and the forms of the questions were how and why.The result of the research was that there were 3 periods of the chronology of Koha application in UMS library, namely: pre-Koha, whilst using Koha, and developing of Koha system. The application of Koha system in UMS library had been in accordance with the cycle of the development of the information system. This cycle includes influential factors were: (1) the rectorats supports, (2) human resource and leadership, (3) trend in the library, (4) integration, (5) theneed of the system, (6) the data analyze, (7) conmunication, (8) good cooperation, (9) socialization, (10) open source, (11) financial condition, (12) the quality of the system, (13) the readiness of the facilities. Besides, the research found that were some factors as the theoretical contributors namely: good communication and cooperation, socialization, abd the readiness of the facilities. It also found that there were one was lost factor, namely: user interface.

Abstract

A university library as a learning space should put learning as a major issue. As the organization itself, university library needs to measure its quality as a learning organization for members of the organization and as a learning space for the academic community, in order to live sustainably in the process of changing learning trends. The quantitative method was applied in this study using benchmarking model of Garvins learning organization. The results show that UGM Library has transformed to be a learning organization. Most of the indicators have reached, whereas some others are still below the standard of benchmark. Meanwhile there was difference in score based on level of education. The study was the first time conducted at UGM Library within a certain period of time; therefore there is no description of comparison process between the past and now. In the future its is expected there is further measurement to identify the development of preparedness of UGM Library as a learning organization.

Abstract

Tujuan perpustakaan perguruan tinggi adalah mendukung terlaksananya Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi yaitu memfasilitasi program pendidikan, penelitian, dan pengabdian pada masyarakat. Kualitas perpustakaan perguruan tinggi menjadi salah satu indikator mutu pendidikan di perguruan tinggi. Kondisi perpustakaan di UGM pada umumnya belum dapat memberi layanan yang bennutu. Di samping itu terjadi fenomena adanya penurunan pemustaka yang memanfaatkan perpustakaan dari tahun ke tahun. Untuk itu penelitian ini bermaksud untuk mengetahui bagaimana motivasi mahasiswa memanfaatkan perpustakaan fakultas dan faktor faktorapa yang mempengaruhinya. Oleh karena itu penelitian ini menggunakan studi komparatif antara mahasiswa fakultas eksakta dan non eksakta. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Informan dalam penelitan ini adalah para mahasiswa anggota perpustakaan dan penanggung jawab Perpustakaan Fakultas Teknik UGM dan Fisipol UGM. Data yang terkumpul melalui studi kepustakaan, observasi, wawancara, dan studi dokumentasi dianalisis secara kualitatif. Analisis data dilaksanakan melalui reduksi data, display data, pengambilan kesimpulan, dan verifikasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dari tiga elemen motivasi yaitu kebutuhan, dorongan, dan tujuan, sebagian besar informan baik dari Fakultas Teknik UGM maupun Fisipol UGM dalam memanfaatkan perpustakaan fakultas mempunyai nAch. tinggi. Sebagian besar informan memanfaatkan perpustakaan karena kebutuhan meningkatkan prestasi. Sebagian besar informan memanfaatkan perpustakaan karena mendapat dorongan dari did sendiri, dosen, dan teman. Sebagian besar informan berpendapat bahwa pemanfaatan perpustakaan berpengaruh terhadap IP, tetapi tinggi rendahnya IP tidak mempengaruhi sebagian besar informan dalam memanfaatkan perpustakaan. Hasil penelitian ini juga menunjukkan bahwa semua faktor-faktor penting dari perpustakaan seperti koleksi, sarana prasarana dan layanan perpustakaan mempengaruhi motivasi mahasiswa memanfaatkan perpustakaan fakultas. Sebagian besar informan dari Fakultas Teknik UGM berpendapat bahwa jumlah buku sudah memadai dan sesuai dengan kebutuhan, sarana prasarana cukup memadai dan menilai positif terhadap layanan yang meliputi petugas, waktu layanan, tata tertib, dan situasi kondisi perpustakaan. Semua faktor tersebut telah memperkuat motivasi para informan memanfaatkan perpustakaan fakultas. Sebagian besar informan dari Fisipol UGM berpendapat bahwa koleksi perpustakaan fakultas sudah berkualitas sehingga dapat memperkuat motivasi mahasiswa memanfaatkan perpustakaan. Dalam hal sarana prasarana, sebagian besar informan mengatakan bahwa sarana prasarana masih dirasa kurang sehingga belum memperkuat motivasi mahasiswa memanfaatkan perpustakaan. Dan faktor layanan, yang memperkuat motivasi sebagian besar informan adalah dari segi petugas, tata tertib, dan yang belum memperkuat motivasi mahasiswa adalah dari segi waktu layanan dan situasi kondisi perpustakaan. Dan hasil penelitian ini juga menunjukkan bahwa faktor faktordari luar perpustakaan yaitu dosen, teman, din sendiri dan orang tua mahasiswa, ternyata yang paling mempengaruhi para informan dari Fakultas Teknik UGM dalam memanfaatkan perpustakaan adalah faktor din sendiri dan dosen, kemudian baru teman dan akhirnya orang tua mahasiswa. Di Fisipol UGM, yang paling mempengaruhi sebagian besar informan memanfaatkan perpustakaan adalah dosen, kemudian dari did sendiri, dan teman, sedangkan faktor orang tua tidak begitu mempengaruhi. Dengan demikian faktor did sendiri, dosen dan teman mempunyai pengaruh yang besar kepada mahasisiswa dalam memanfaatkan perpustakaan. Di antara ketiga faktor tersebut, dosen yang paling mempengaruhi para informan baik dari Fakultas Teknik UGM maupun Fisipol UGM, sehingga dosen berperan penting dalam mendorong para mahasiswa memanfaatkan perpustakaan. Abstract

This Research aim to know the retrieval effectiveness on Online Union Catalog of UGM Library, index pattern at data bases, knowing whichs more effective of searching at entri oftitle and subjec and also to know the cause ofeffectiveness difference retrieval at the both entri. Along with growth and information accretion, the main problem have shifted from way of accessing information become to chosen the relevant information with its requirement. Information retrieval is not possible to be done in the manual system, because very big information corps and non-stoped growing larger. The information retrieval system is very needed to to assist the consumer in finding information. One of the information retrieval system is online union catalog. With the online union catalog, by users easily can look for the book title, pickings of research and other documentation of library where from and any time. Getting a number of relevant document with the requirement represent the crux in the searching activity, and effectiveness from online union catalog is this represent the key. Effectiveness from a system influenced by a lot of component which each other related/relevant like: quality of input metadata in data bases, index, searching strategy, ability of system application and keyword election. A system told effective if the system can find more amount document/ appropriate information of request by precission /high accuracy. Research done by testing search at online union catalog to use the natural language keyword. Keyword inclusion done at entri of title and entri subjek. Keyword of taken as sampel come from one of title matakuliah of each; every faculty in UGM. From each; every the topic then translated /formulated into 4 natural language keyword. Data obtained is grouped by relevant level. From the acquirement data; then analysed with the test ofnonparametrik Mann Whitney. From processing data got by conclusion that ratio of retrieval at title entries of equal to 66,6% and subject entries of equal to 58,3%. Data got by mean at title entries of equal to 85,9 document with the detail: very relevant 42,4%, less be relevant 24,2% irrelevant and also 33,5%. While at subject entries found by a mean data of equal to 62,5 document with the detail: very relevant 31,9%, less be relevant 26,45 and irrelevant 30,6%. Pursuant to this research result is suggested to increase performance from Online Union Catalog of UGM library. Is things required to improved by technique ofsearching and ability of searching system, the importance of taking care ofquality ofdata input, similarity ofmetadata and always the existence of renewal /updating ofcatalogue data from all member library. Abstract

This study assesses the level of achievement of the information society through the implementation of the program KIM. KIM is the Kelompok Informasi Masyarakat which is a program of the Indonesian government to seek the realization of the information society in Indonesia. KIM is designed as a group formed independently so that the development will be an independent community group. The purpose of this study was to see how the achievement of the information society through the implementation of the program is reviewed KIM. So as to provide input to the government related to how the achievement of the information society and also related input KIM program. With a qualitative research approach, the method used in this research is a case study. The case studies carried out in two different areas of the rural areas and urban areas in East Java. Based on the results obtained, that the condition of the people is still far from the realization of the information society. The condition of society is still at the level of society aware of the information, even in rural areas there are still many people who are less aware of the information. It is caused by the KIM program implementation is still less than the maximum. There are many obstacles, so that the KIM program requires evaluation to achieve program objectives which is to make the people of Indonesia as an information society.

Abstract

Two keywords in implementing Quality Management System ISO 9001:2008 are customer satisfaction and continuous improvement. Both are important and always influence each other. In the practice of library service, user satisfaction becomes an essential aspect for the library to make a continuous improvement. This means when a library puts priority on user satisfaction, it will make continuous improvement. In other words, a continuous improvement will always be made when the library concentrates on achieving user satisfaction. This study is aimed at identifying the achievement level ofuser satisfaction reached at Sanata Dharma University Library (SD UL) in the period of 2008 to 2014 and to find out continuous improvement that has been made by SDUL, especially, the result analysis on monitoring and assessing user satisfaction. This study was a survey that used descriptive method. The result of the study showed the achievement level of monitoring and assessmentof user satisfaction at SDUL in the period of 2008 to 2014 reached maximum score, that is, 3.5 to 3.8 in the scale of I to 5. Observed from the user satisfaction analysis, continuous quality improvement conducted in SDUL covered three important fields, that is, information and information access facilities, library services, and infrastucture and work environment.
