Abstract

The aim of the research is to know the effect of teaching method and emotional intelligence towards student’s listening skill. The writer applied the purpose sampling to determine the sample.  The technique of collecting data of teaching method and emotional intelligence used Likert scales or questioners and the Listening Skill test was acquired from the test multiple choice of 20 items. The research methodology that is used explanatory experimental and technique of data analysis that used in this research is regression analysis model.  It was used to know the effect of independent variable to dependent variable. The statistic test used t-test and data analysis used correlation technique and partial regression. The research findings are:1). There is effect of Teaching Method towards Student’s Listening Skill. The result of the research is obtained by sig value = 0.000 < 0.05. It means that there is significance different of Student’s Listening Skill of the students who are taught by audio lingual teaching method and Student’s Listening Skill who are taught by conventional method. 2). There is effect of Emotional intelligence towards Student’s Listening Skill. The result of the test is obtained by sig value = 0.000 < 0.05. It means that there is significance difference of Student’s Listening Skill of the students whose High Emotional intelligence with Student’s Listening Skill of the students whose Low Emotional intelligence. 3). There is interaction between Teaching Method and Emotional intelligence towards Student’s Listening Skill at Private Junior High School in South Jakarta. The result of the test is obtained by sig value = 0.043 < 0.05.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to know the effects of grammar mastery towards student’s listening skill. The research methodology that is used Eksperimen methodology. The subject of this research is taken from the whole population students of at Private Universities in Jakarta by the range of Academy Foreign Language Bina Sarana Informatika and sampel is taken from fourth term. This research has been done from April until August 2014. From this research shown that the result of SPSS Fo=121,637 and sig=0,000(0,000<0,05), it can be concluded that the grammar mastery give significant effect towards student’s listening skill. Keywords: Grammar Mastery, Listening Skill, Teaching

Abstract

Genre analysis is a means of studying spoken and written discourse. Genre is also as a structuring device used for scientific writing such as articles of journal. The aim of the present study is to describe move structure of research article abstracts. The move or rhetorical structure model employed as the framework for analysis of the data was Hyland’s.  The sources of data are abstracts of Asian EFL journal articles published between 2005-2009. The number of the article abstracts chosen as the source of the data was fifty. The findings indicated that there were four conventional moves in the abstracts, namely Purpose Move (M2), Method move (M3), Product move (M4), and Conclusion move (M5).   It was found that M2, M3, and M4 occurred in all of the 50 abstracts or 100% while M5 occurred in 38 abstracts or 76%.  Introduction move (M1) was an optional move since it was only 24 abstracts or 48%.  The most frequent move structure appeared in the abstracts was M2-M3-M4-M5 whose total was 23 abstracts or 46%. Finally, the implication of the findings is that the result of the research can be as an empirical reference for novice writers in writing abstracts. Keywords: Genre, Move Structure, Hyland’s

Abstract

Literature and society are relating each other. A literary work, such as novel, emerges from society and social condition. A Study in Scarlet is a famous novel about detective story. Its author’s life surely has an important role to this novel. In this thesis, the writer analyzes social condition of Conan Doyle. This analysis takes the data from novel A Study in Scarlet written by Conan Doyle. The supported theories collected through library and internet research. The writer uses descriptive qualitative method in analyzing this novel. Result of this analysis are first, sociological background of Conan Doyle are; a 28 years old man, live in London, study of medicine, live good in the middle class of economic and work as a surgeon and writer. Second, Conan Doyle’s reason in writing this novel are for beauty, foraging and imitate other’s behavior. Third, Conan Doyle’s social condition relates to the setting of this novel. Setting of place mostly in London, setting of time commonly in war time and setting of social concerns with war condition. Keywords: Character, Novel, Sociological Background

Abstract

The purpose of the research is to analyze about morphology in writing an English narrative composition. Morphology is the study of morphemes which are the smallest significant units of grammar. There are two kinds of morphology, they are derivational and inflectional. Affixes such as suffixes, infixes, prefixes, ablaut and reduplication are kinds of derivational morphology, meanwhile plural, possessive, past time, progressive, comparative and superlative are kinds of inflectional morphology. Morphology mostly used in writing and writing is the most difficult part in English subject as what it is said different from what it is written. Writing is related to composition and there 4 kinds of composition, they are: argumentation, description, exposition and narration. Abstract

The study is aimed at revealing the meaning of jeans advertisements in the Rolling Stone Magazines. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative supported by Peircean theory that focus on the relationship of the sign, the object, and the interpreter. The sign of Jeans advertisements can be a part of the sentence or the words from the headline text, then the text itself is combining with the picture to get the new sign (interpreter), the researcher analizes and describes the meaning of the sign by Peirce’s triadic theory to get the semiosis process. Result shows that there are many expressions of lifestyle, motivations, identities, and expression of consumerism on meaning of jeans advertisements. Those interpretations based on interpreter’s experiences, knowledge, pointview, thoughts, cultures, and emotions. This study is important to reveal human’s feeling, expression, thought, idea, and ideologies through sign’s meaning investigation in communication. Keywords: Peirce, Semiotic, Jeans, Adverstisement

Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas mengenai pelanggaran maksim percakapan Graice yang terdapat didalam materi stand up comedy. Stand up comedy adalah satu genre comedy yang bertumpu dari kekuatan bahasa dalam menuturkan joke atau candaan . Penelitian ini adalah penelitian qualitative study yang menggunakan pendekatan pragmatik untuk mendeskripsikan apa saja  pelanggaran pelanggaran yang dilakukan oleh para comica. serta implikatur yang terdapat dalam setiap ujaran yang terdapat dalam materi stand up comedy. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah melihat fenomena penggunaan bahasa dalam materi  stand up comedy yang menunjukan bahwa pemakaian bahasa tidak lagi melulu soal alat berkomunikasi tetapi bahasa juga dijadikan sarana menghantarkan ide atau gagasan secara jenaka. Penelitian ini menghasilkan pembahasan data  yang terklasifikasiakan kedalam   jenis jenis pelanggaran menurut  kaidah maksim percakapan Grice.  Kata kunci : Pelanggaran Maksim, Pragmatic, Implikatur.

Abstract

The aim of this Classroom Action Research is to increase students’learning motivation and students’ narative text writingskill, by using Think Pair Share and Picture and Picture. This research is conducted at class VIII-8SMP Negeri 1 Ciomas of Bogor regency in  Academic Year 2014-2015. The research is done by two cycles, each cycles consists of two actions. The deficiencies of the first cycle is reflected and improved in the second cycle. The goals’ criteria are  achieved in the second cycle, it means that the classroom management by using Think Pair Share and Picture and Picture has been succeeded, so the reasearch is stopped. Based on the result of the research, students’ enthusiasm in the first cycle, 92,36% increases to 96,005% in the second cycle, students learning motivation,78% in the first cycle increases to 83.8% in the second cycle. Students’ narrative text writing skills in the first cycle,72%  increases to 81% in the second cycle. So it can be concluded that the result of the research showsthe classroom management by using Think Pair Share and Picture and Pictureis proved increasingenthusiasm, learning motivation and narrative text writing skill of the eighth grade of students’SMP Negeri 1 Ciomas of Bogor regency.  Keywords: Think Pair Share (TPS), Picture and Picture (PP) , learning motivation, writing skill.
