Abstract

This study aims to describe the process of developing a teaching book for daily life skills for children ages 2 - 6 years based on Montessori method. This research uses research and development method, intending to (1) find out the procedure for developing daily life skill albums for children ages 2 - 6 years based on Montessori method and (2) describe the quality of the album. The research and development is modified from ten stages of Sugiyono and Borg and Gall, into five stages: 1) potential problems, 2) product design, 3) product validation by experts, 4) test instruments, and 5) limited trials. The result from expert validation for the purpose and method scored 3.75, considered in ‘good’ category. The content aspect scords 3, in ‘average’ category. The content aspect scored 3.5, in ‘good’ category. Overall, the result of expert validation showed the score of 3,4, and was considered as ‘good’.

Abstract

The development of science and technology that caused by 21st century development, requires a globally qualified, reliable, and competitive human resources. One of the skills required in 21st century is scientific literacy. Scientific literacy is a skill to use knowledge, identify question, and take conclusion based of evidences for understanding and making decision about nature and changes done to nature by human activities. Scientific literacy in schools can be created and developed by environment utilization. Students observe and do simple scientific activities, they can directly interact and utilize the environment as learning material. By directly learning and observing in nature, scientific literacy learning can be optimalized. The aim of this research are to understand the implementation of scientific literacy learning by utilizing environment and knowing environment’s benefits in developing students’ scientific literacy skill. The methods used are literature review by analyzing sources related to this research. The results found by conducting a literature study showing that by utilizing the environment in scientific literacy learning, student learning outcomes increased. Students are active in learning activities and better understand the scientific literacy learning because it is close to the surrounding environment. It can be concluded that the use of the environment is appropriate for scientific literacy learning.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was produce a mathematics learning companion book that was feasible to use and to measure the student's response to the teaching material. This study uses the Research and Development (R & D) method with a 4D model, which includes needs analysis, design, development, and dissemination. The feasibility was measured with the validity test from material and the design expert. The effectiveness was measured with the test to one class of PGSD FKIP UMM students, then the second test was conducted in 2 classes. The results of the research obtained are the validity values of teaching materials worthed 91.6%, and the validation test the material experts scored 78.8%, all are in ‘valid’ criteria. The effectiveness of the teaching materials were also shown from positive responses obtained from lecturers and students as product users. After revision, the effectiveness of teaching materials reached 86.93%, in the ‘effective’ criteria. Lecturers and students concluded that the use of teaching materials companion book was effective for learning

Abstract

The aim of this research is improving expositional text writing skill using PBL for students eighth grade at SMPN 3 Surakarta. PBL is a learning model where the students are asked to solve the problems based on the information given, later they are asked to describe the problems in real life. This Classroom Action Research used the data collection technique with test. The instruments of learning process consisted of 3 items of activity and 20 indicators that were divided into 3 initial stages, core stage, and closing stage. It is shown from the data analysis that the teacher’s teaching activity in the first cycle scored 73, in the second cycle scored 77, and the third cycle reached 80, and all those three results achieved ‘good’ category. The percentage of students' passing level in the first cycle was 43.75%, the second cycle was 68.75%, and the third cycle was 100%. The implementation of PBL was better than in the previous cycle. It was indicated by the improvement in the passing score from 73% (Classification C) in the second cycle, to 82% (Classification B)in the third cycle.

Abstract

The problems that will be solved in Community Engagement (CE) activities for elementary school teachers in Kecamatan Tingkir is the low ability to write scientific paper among teachers. This CE activity was held at SD Tingkir Lor 2 Salatiga. The participants of the CE were 54 elementary school teachers/principals from the Gugus Joko Tingkir. The model of the CE is a participatory training model. The training activities were carried out for three days from April 23-25, and continued online coaching for 2 weeks. Training material covers the Basics of Writing; Problems in Scientific Paper Writing; Searching materials; Introduction of Online Journals, Introduction to Style Guide and How to Submit in Online Journal. Instruments to measure the success of the process and results of training using questionnaires and evaluation sheets. Data analysis techniques used percentage analysis techniques and categorical descriptive. The results of CE is: teacher knowledge about writing increases; skills in writing papers have been shown to increase from a number of articles published successfully; teacher professionalism has increased, proven to be successful in writing scientific articles; and a close relationship between KKG Gugus Joko Tingkir with PGSD-FKIP UKSW.

Abstract

This article discusses about the implementation of 1:4:P:C:R teaching and learning method related to its potential to stimulate critical and creative thinking skill of the students. This is based on the fact that critical and creative thinking skills has never been an out-to-dated discussion in education as it has to be taught and trained to prepare the students function well in all aspects in professional and private life. Therefore, lecturers need to design instruction that can help students teachers learn and develop their capacity of thinking critically and creatively. It is hoped that the discussion can be a useful inspiration for other lecturers in applying the critical and creative thinking strategies in their classes. This article is a result of observation in Curricullum and Learning subject in three classes using the 1:4:P:C:R method in the Elementary School Teacher Training and Education, UKSW. This observation study functions as a preliminary study before doing further research. The result showed that 1:4:P:C:R could start the student teachers to think critically because students had to give information to their peers in the area of material in which their peers are lacking, also to think creatively as students needed to create a product to show their knowledge to others.

Abstract

Teaching practice is one among many programs in teachers training which focuses on having a professional preparation for work. In this program, student-teachers are asked to improve their skills through teaching actual students and engaging with school environment. Moreover, they are also building their own knowledge based on the improved teaching and learning process. It is crucial for them as pre-service teachers to encounter such experience. This meaningful theory and experience-based insights are possible to obtain if the student-teachers possess the commitment of self-reflection. There is likely a big chance that this action will be perpetual because of this personal initiative. This study aims to analyze the use of reflective journal as pre-service teachers’ professional development tool, their attitude towards reflective journal, as well as the strength and challenges arise related to the use of reflective journal during their teaching practice. The type of the research is a qualitative case study research. The data collection techniques being used are questionnaire and Focus Group Discussion (FGD). Moreover, the technique of analyzing the data was Miles and Huberman concept of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of this research will be presented in a descriptive-narrative manner by describing and discussing the data of the research.

Abstract

Science education for early childhood education has received considerable attention from many researchers. Even though the new Indonesian early childhood curriculum does not provide specific curriculum objectives for science lesson, the science has been integrated in the curriculum through ‘pendekatan saintifik’ (scientific approach). There are not many journal articles which covered this topic. Several journals mentioned the importance of this approach, some other journals tried to find best model for implementing the approach. However, very few journals discussed deeply about the implementation of that approach. Therefore, this research paper will discuss the findings of scientific approach in three early childhood schools. The descriptive qualitative approach was used in the research.. The results show that the time allocation, the number of objects provided, and teachers’ questions are three important factors which affect the quality of scientific approach implementation.

Abstract

Peer tutoring is a learning process that involves students who have high abilities to provide assistance and tutoring to students with lower abilities. There are benefits and constraints faced during the implementation of peer tutoring. This study aims to describe the benefits and constraints of the implementation of peer tutoring in fourth grade through the use of stacked short-division material. The research method used is descriptive qualitative research. The data obtained will be processed and described extensively and increasingly detailed, so that the reader will be able to comprehend the data descriptions. This research was conducted at Lentera Harapan Mamit School, Papua. The benefits of its implementation are students can express their learning difficulties directly to the tutor, students style understand the learning materials more easily because it uses the same language among fellow students. Peer tutoring also gives opportunities for students to grow together. The constraints faced are the difficulty in determining a more qualified tutor and in managing the time well because of many steps that must be applied. Preferably, while implementing peer tutoring, there should be a consideration on the selection of tutors by looking at the result of the student exercise periodically and using a timer to remind each step of the way.
