Abstract

Character education in the realm of education in elementary school is crucial to be invested because basic education is the beginning of the moral application in human life. In school, children spend their time studying and interacting in their social life. There are several ways in teaching the values of character in school, one of which is to insert the values of characters in the mathematics learning. A real teacher simply directs and creates a learning plan that can accommodate the appearance of the character. One of the learning models that can stimulate the insertion of character values in students is the Project-based Learning model. Thus, the students will learn through the project and indirectly will also emerge the understanding of the character values that exist in the project activities.

Abstract

Mathematics is a numerical study that has a strong relation to countings. Learning method of Course Review Horay and Quantum Teaching could arise students’ enthusiasm to get good grades. Purpose of this study was to observe differences in Mathematics learning result using learning model of Course Review Horay and Quantum Teaching. This was an experiment research type Quasi Experiment design Nonequivalent Pretest-Postest Control Grup Design. Test result between group of experiment and control showed there was an equivalent. Technic of collecting data was through observation and test. Participants of this study were students 3A of SD Kristen Satya Wacana as Experiment group and students 3B of SD Negeri Salatiga 6 as Control group. Data was analysed using T-test with Independent Sample t-test technique with 5% significance level (α = 0,05). The result showed that there was significant difference in applying Course Review Horay learning and Quantum Teaching learning model. It was proven in t-test posttest showed t-calculate was -4,642 with sig.(2-tailed) adalah 0,000 < 0,05 to df 48 obtained t table value = 2,011 with t-test gain score which showed the value of t calculate was -2,687 with sig.(2-tailed) 0,010 < 0,05 to df 48 obtained t table = 2,011.

Abstract

The research purposes are to: (1) find out the application of Experiental Learning Model to improve the science understanding for Light and Its Properties subject material of fifth grade students in Temuguruh 1 Elementary School, and (2) increase the understanding of learning science through experiential learning model of fifth students I Temuguruh-Banyuwangi Elementary School. This study uses qualitative and quantitative research that applies classroom action. The research subjects are 19 fifth grade students which consists of 10 female and 9 male students. This research was conducted on March 13-25, 2017 in two cycles and each cycle contained two meetings. The data was collected by observation, interview, field notes, documentation, and test. The data analysis technique was done both in qualitative and quantitative analysis. The result of this research shows (1) the application of Experiential Learning Model in 4 phases, which are: the concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conseptualisation, and active experimental that makes students to be more confident in delivering their opinion based on the observation that they have conducted; (2) science learning comprehension of student is improving through the application of Experiental Learning Model, it is proven by the increase average score in class from 72,2 became 73,4 in the first cycle and 79,6 in the second cycle. From 19 students in fifth grade, only 9 students passed the minimum standart of competency achievement of 47,4% (deficient). It changed from 11 students or 57,8% (satisfactory) in first cycle to 15 students or 78,9% (good) in second cycle.

Abstract

This study aims at generating possible thematic Subject Specific Pedagogy (SSP) based on local wisdom and examining the results teachers and students perception on the pedagogical approach developed in the preliminary field testing. Drawing upon the notion of research and development by Borg & Gall, this research was conducted through different stages involving information gathering, planning, developing preliminary product, preliminary field testing, and revising. The subjects were a small group of second grade students of SD Muhammadiyah Bodon and SD Muhammadiyah Sidoarum Yogyakarta. Each consists of 10 students. The data gathering instrument consists of product validation, character observation sheets, and teacher assessment sheets. The data gathering instrument consists of product validation tool, character observation sheets, and teachers’ assessment sheets. The SSP product generated in this study consists of lesson plans, teaching materials, worksheets, and expert perception. According to the experts of media, materials, and evaluation, the SSP product is in good categories. First grade teachers result a good score to the syllabus and lesson plans, while the worksheets and evaluation are in very good category. The results from the students responses to the textbooks is 78, which is in very good category, while the students worksheets score 71 which includes in excellent category. Therefore, the developed thematic SSP based on local wisdom can be declared appropriate for use in learning.

Abstract

This research aims to describe and explain: (1) the difference of influence in disciplinal behavior of the early ages in learning using character education books containing congeniality between context and illustration in the form of story, activity, and activity-comparative; (2) the strongest influence between story, activity, and activity-comparative books containing congeniality between context and illustration to disciplinal behavior of the early age. This research was conducted in TK Kristen Kalam Kudus Surakarta. This research was done with experimental quantitative method. Before the experiment was carried out, early analysis of character education books containing congeniality between context in illustration was done, continued by determining books that fit the criteria in congeniality between context and illustration based on the early analysis and experts’ opinions. The experts including book authors who are proficient in the psychological development of the early age, and teachers of kindergartens. Data retrieval was done using instruments. Instruments and data have been validated theoretically and contextually. The results conclude that there is a significant influence of congeniality between context and illustration to disciplinal behavior of the early age in kindergartens. The strongest influence among the books containing congeniality between context in illustration is activity-comparative books.

Abstract

The purpose of this qualitative descriptive research is to describe the professional attitude and creativity building of mathematics student teachers during the microteaching course. The study was conducted on May 8, 2017 until June 23, 2017. There were 17 students from Mathematics Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Satya Wacana Christian University. Data collection techniques used the observation methods, open questionnaires, and documentation. The training is to build a professional attitude, begins with the exercise of disciplinary rules in which the student must arrive on time, wear the appropriate shirts as the faculty suggested, collect the tasks of the learning device on time, and for later attire, students have to wear white shirts, black trouser/ long skirt, blazer, pantofel boots, and a tie for both male and female, except the ones with hijabs. The training to build students creativity begins by creating an exciting way of learning, planning the contents of learning with contemporary models that are currently developing, making closing activities in accordance with selected learning models, making lesson plans equipped with presentation slide with specific slide limits, creating a worksheet that can keep students active with certain page number limitation, then students may create additional other learning medias. Performing those attitude, blended with well-designed stages, the students can feel there is a change in themselves. Changes in attitudes and experiences experienced by students in this learning are the focus of this qualitative research description.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to: (1) find out the influence of E-JAS edutainment thematic module on environmental awareness character, and (2) find out the influence of E-JAS edutainment thematic module on the character of responsibility. The type of research used is quasi experiment, with the population of this research of fourth graders of SD Negeri in Kudus Regency. The research subjects were students of four grade in SD 2 Jati Kulon, District Jati, the Regency of Kudus in the academic year 2017/2018. The sampling technique was done by purposive sampling. The research design was one group pre-post test. The data collection techniques were non-test techniques through interviews and observation. Data analysis techniques which determine the effect of E-JAS edutainment module on environmental awareness character and responsibility used paired samples T-test. The result of this research was (1) there was an influence of E-JAS edutainment module towards environmental awareness character, and (2) there was an influence of E-JAS edutainment module towards the character of responsibility.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the use of grammatical and lexical cohesion markers, the variation of the grammatical and lexical cohesion markers use, and the misuse of cohesion markers on the exposition of the students. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. Data sources came from a collection of students expository text, with purposive sampling as data analysis technique. The results of this study indicates that: (1) the most used grammatical cohesion marker by class X IPS 2 students is the reference form with the highest appearance of 42 data, while the lexical cohesion marker most used is form repetition with the highest appearance of 13 data; (2) the use of the grammatical and lexical cohesion marker in writing the exposition has been shown to be varied, although the use is still uneven; (3) the most common misuse of grammatical cohesion marker in the student exposition is the use of the conjunction with the percentage of 73.08%.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the development steps and the appropriateness of multicultural education module based on the character of patriotism and nationalism in thematic learning for students in 2nd grade Elementary School. This is a research and development applying Borg and Gall design. The trial was conducted on 10 students of 2nd grade in Muhammadiyah Bodon Elementary School. The data collection techniques in this research were interviews, observations, module feasibility assessments by experts, teachers’ assessment, and questionnaire of learners’ responses. The eligibility of the multicultural education module is shown by the result of the assessment by the validation experts at the time of FGD. The validation by media expert scored of 72, the validation by learning expert scored of 74, and the validation by language expert scored of 60. The limited product trial were conducted in class II A, based on the students assessment get the mean score of 37.5, while the assessment by the teacher scored 70 , both are very good category. The field trial were conducted in class II B, based on the students score, obtained 36.94 score, and 76 from the teachers; both are very good category.

Abstract

The indicator of a professional teachers is the extent to which the teachers has the ability to design instructional well. A good instructional design will effectively achieve the instructional objectives that have been set. The problem that arises is that there is a signal that the teachers implement the learning without first doing systematic instructional design. This paper aims to provide guidance on how instructional components are designed. The instructional components include instructional objectives, materials, model / strategy / method, instructional media and instructional evaluation. The model of instructional component design is using system approach such as Dick model, Carey and Carey. The use of Dick, Carey and Carey model will produce frame of instructional objectives, materials, model / strategy / method, media, and instructional evaluation as needed. Among five components of learning above, the model components and media need to get serious attention because they follow the technology trend. Thus, it needs the signs for choosing and designing the model and the media. The lecturers view of the process of how the learning act takes place will have implications for the choice of model and the media / delivery technology of the material to be applied. There are two extremes of extreme views about the epistemology of knowledge and the way in which a students knowledge is acquired, although both are connected through the polar opposite continuum. The two views are: a) an objectivistic view (direct instruction) that is influenced by behavioristic learning theory and cognitive theory, especially information processing theory; b) constructivist views.
