Abstract

As we know that history is series of events that occurred which its presence must be motivated by specific causes. History does not appear immediately and stand alone without anyone arousing it. It can be said that history has a prologue and epilogue, because not all of the events that happened in the past can be recorded by history. In this topic being discussed, a crusade became the reality of the history of mankind, which had taken more or less for two hundred years. The War was the greatest conflict of two religions in the world which was between Islam that held the power at that time in part of Europe, North Africa and Asia, against the followers of Christianity who tried to seize the city of Jerusalem, which at that time ruled by Islam, the postscript is a holy city for them. Islam and Christianity are the major religions in the world that their religious teachings heavily loaded with the values of peace, tolerance and social relationships. Both in the Quran and Gospel, there are a lot of passages of calls for tolerance, peace and social relations. This creates a question, why the war should happen, in terms of Islam encountered in a call for dialogue with the People of the Book in a good way, as well as in Christianity which is expressed as a neighbor. Islam also considers that the Christians are a people who are closest to the Islamic ummah, and both religions actually are brothers, free from hostility and enmity.

Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the literacy skills students of class X on their math skill. This study used a qualitative approach, the approach that drives meaningful results. To determine the ability of mathematical literacy class X, there were study subjects of 3 people who were selected based on their level of math skills. The determination was based on the categories of low, medium and high. Each subject was given a test and interview questions to determine the literacy skills. The results revealed that subjects with low category were in the second level of mathematics literacy, and subjects with high category were in the third level of mathematical literacy skills. Based on these results, it is necessary to seek strategies in the learning process of mathematics, which allows the improvement of mathematics literacy skills.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to improve students learning outcomes in mathematics learning through Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) model with Cuisenaire Rods media in grade IV Dukuh 03 Salatiga Elementary School semester II year 2015/2016. This research was conducted to help teachers who still used conventional methods and had not yet maximized learning media in the classroom. This research is a classroom action research that consists of two cycles. Each cycle consists of four phases: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of this study were 26 students. Data collection techniques used in this study were observation, testing, and documentation. The instruments used were test items, the student activity and teacher observation sheet. Data analysis was performed by using a comparative descriptive analysis by comparing the results of pre-cycle, the first cycle, and the second cycle. The indicator of success in this study was that 75% students reaching the score of ≥ 64. The research showed an increase in the value of the average grade from 61.77 in the pre-cycle to 78 in the first cycle and up to 85 in the second cycle. The number of students who passed the study increased from 11 students (42.31%) in the pre-cycle to 20 students (76.92%) in the first cycle and up to 24 students (92.31%) in the second cycle, so it can be concluded that the application of Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) model using Cuisenaire Rods media can improve students learning outcomes in mathematics in the area of adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator and with different denominators.
