Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of papaya flour at different doses on absolute  growth, daily growth, relative growth, feed efficiency, and food conversion. The treatments consisted of 0,  2.5%, 7.5%, 10% of papaya flour respectively, each with three replcations. The weight of fish were  about 18-23.58 g.  The fish were placed in aquaria with a density of  10 individual per aquarium. The experiment design is a complete randomized design. The results of analysis show that the treatments had no significant effect on growth, daily growth, relative growth, feed  efficient, and food conversion ratio. However, treatment C (7.5% papaya flour) gave the best on growth of fish, feed efficiency and food conversion ratio.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the size of shell length, shell width and total weight of Pinctada margaritifera shells, and water quality parameters for the aquaculture development. Morphometric measurements include: shell length (PC), and shell width (LC), shell weight (BT). The results showed that PC size 8 - 11.99 cm, LC 8 - 9.99 cm and BT 80 - 99.99 gram dominate the Arakan waters  while PC size 6 - 9.99 cm, LC 6 - 7.99 cm and BT 60 - 79.99 gram dominate the Bahoi  waters. The results of water quality measurements in both locations are Bahoi waters, namely: 29-32oC, DO 7-8,5 mg/l, pH 7,8-7,9, salinity, 28-32 ppt, 4,5- 7 meters, 11 cm/sec. While in Arakan waters, the temperature was 30-30,8oC, DO 6,3-6,7 mg/l, pH 7,6-7,7 salinity 30 ppt, brightness 4-5 meter, current velocity 4,5 cm / second. Abstract

The research was conducted to appraise the antimicrobial activity of Ocimum sactum extract on A. hydrophila. Fresh basil was purchased from the local market,  put in plastic bags and brought to Laboratory of Fish Health, Environment, and Toxicology, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science Sam Ratulangi University.  The basil was cleaned and separated between trunk and leaf, and then macerated in alcohol 70% at room temperature for 24 hours. The extract was filtered using Whatman paper and evaporated using rotary evaporator. Paper disc (diameter: 6 mm) was immersed in the extract,  placed on TSA previously inoculated with A. hydrophila, and incubated at 28oC for 24 hours.  The result showed  that trunk and leaf extracted with alcohol 70% did not inhibit the grow of bacteria while aquades extract was able to inhibit growth of bacteria indicated by the present of clear zone around the paper discs with a diameter of 16.5 mm for leaf and 20.5 mm for basil trunk. The ability of these two extracts to inhibit the growth of bacteria was categorized as strong. Thus, aquades extract of basil was able to inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria. Keywords: Ocimum sactum, antimicrobial, disc diffusion method, medicinal plant,  inhibition zone

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the chemical composition of the Pinctada margaritifera shells in North Sulawesi. Shells were collected from 3 (three) locations, namely: the coast of Arakan Minahasa Selatan waters, Bahoi Minahasa Utara waters and Talengen waters of Sangihe Islands, North Sulawesi. Three samples of shell powder each containing 100 grams, packed in a plastic bag to be analyzed using the ICP-OAS type Thermo scientific iCAP 6000 Series at the Wln (Water Laboratory Nusantara) Laboratory in Manado. The shell of P. margaritifera had macro mineral composition, namely calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, sodium and micro minerals, namely manganese and iron.Keywords: Shells, Pinctada margaritifera, Mineral
