Abstract

The purpuse of this research was to determine the effect of shell powder of Taiwanese mussel (Anodonta woodiana) at different doses on absolute growth, relative growth and survival rate of Taiwanese mussel. The treatment dosages of shell powder included A: 0 ppm,  B: 10  ppm, C: 20 ppm, D: 30 ppm, and E: 40 ppm. Experimental design used was Complete Randomized Design with five treatments, each with three replications.  The results showed that supplementation of 40 ppm of shell powder resulted in the best absolute growth and relative growth, namely 0.475 g and 1.84% respectively. Abstract

A research had been conducted to evaluate the use of baker’s yeast as immunostimulant in enhancing the resistance of carp (Cyprinus carpio L) to Aeromonas hydrophila infection.  Experimental fish were obtained from Freshwater Aquaculture Board in Talelu, Minahasa Regency, and transported to the Laboratory of Aquaculture Technology at the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science, Sam Ratulangi University. During two weeks of  acclimatization process, fingerlings were fed with commercial feed (pellet) at 5% of body weight per day, twice a day.  After acclimatization, fish was randomly distributed into 15 aquaria with a density of 25 fishes/aquarium. The doses of yeast cells as treatments included 5, 10, 15 and 20 g yeast/kg of pellet while control pellet not supplemented with yeast cell. Fish was fed with treatment pellets for four consecutive weeks at 5% of body weight per day,  twice daily at 09.00 am and 16.00 pm. Afterward, the density of fish were adjusted to 10 fish/aquarium. Fish were then challenged with A. hydrophila through intraperitoneal injection of  0.2 mL of A. hydrophila suspension containing 1x107 cfu/mL. Research result showed that supplementation of yeast cells into fish pellet significantly influenced the resistance of fish to A. hydrophila infection (p<0,01). The highest resistance were observed in fish fed pellet supplemented with 5 g yeast/kg of pellet. Thus, supplementation of  baker’s yeast cells into commercial fish feed was able to increase  resistance of carp to A. hydrophila infection.   Keywords: baker’s yeast, Cyprinus carpio, A. hydrophila, resistance, intraperitoneal injection

Abstract

The objective of research was to evaluate the length and diameter of coral Acropora  formosa cultivated with different seed size in Talengen Bay, Tabukan District, Sangihe Island Regency.  Data were collected from May to June 2016.  Experimental design used was Complete Randomized Design with three treatments, each with three replications.  Size of seed as treatment consisted of  A: 5 cm, B: 7 cm and C: 10 cm. The experiment was conducted using bench  system measuring 60 x 60 cm2, while coral seed was A.  formosa.  The seed was gathered from the nature around research location. Growth data and water quality parameters were measured every two weeks .  Research results showed that the highest absolute length growth was achieved in treatment A (average: 0.70 cm), followed by treatment C (average 0.46 cm) and the lowest was in treatment B (average 0.45 cm).  The highest growth of coral diameter was observed in treatment A (average 0.05 cm) and followed by treatment C (average 0.03 cm) and treatment B (0.03 cm). Statistical analysis showed that absolute length growth and coral diameter   were not significant.  A. formosa cultured with different seed length in Talengen Bay had good growth in which the growth in length was faster than the growth in diameter. Abstract

The research was conducted in floating net cage for at Talengen Island Sangihe to study the growth of grouper (46-70 g in average) fed various type of feed including fish flesh, pellet, cassava, sago) for six weeks, and to determine the food conversion ratio of each food type. The treatments consisted of A (fish flesh), B (fish flesh + cassava), C (fish flesh+sago), D (pellet). Fish was culture in 12 floating net cages measuring 1x1x1,5 m each, 10 fish/cage. Research results showed that the highest weight gain was achieved in fish in treatment C (87.6%), followed by treatment A (76.1%) , B (69.8%), and D (52.5%).  Statistically, treatment C was significantly different  compared to treatment A, B and D. Abstract

The implementation of science and technology for society aimed to give knowledge and methods of application that can answer all problems encountered by fish farmers. Low cost of  feed manufacturing methods and high quality utilizing local raw ingredients had been given through counseling and basic training so that fish farmers can continue going forward and do not rely on commercial feed from the market.  Practical sex reversal methods were given, intended that fish farmers could get male tilapia seeds having rapid growth.   Keywords: Fish farmer, Rap Rap Village, feed, eeed, Sex Reversal Methods

Abstract

The research aimed to study the growth  of seaweed Kappaphycus alvarezii cultured for 42 days  (from May to June 2016) in net pen with different initial weights at Talengen Bay, Island of Sangihe, North Sulawesi Province. The research used Complete Randomized Design with three treatments, each with three replication. The treatments included A: 50 g, B: 100 g, and C: 150 g of initial weight. Data collected were absolute, relative and daily growth.  Data were analyzed using analysis of variance and Least Significance Different Test was used to determine the difference between treatments.  Statistical analysis used JMP (SAS-institute). Research results showed the best absolute growth was achieved in treatment C namely 300.55 g, the best relative growth was observed  in treatment A as much as 284.78% and the best daily growth rate was in treatment A as much as 3.26%.
