Abstract

This research was made to gain the information how the gate keeping process in Idola Radio works in public journalism responds that give informations by telephone or sms to Idola Radio.This research base on the theory how the gate keeping process decides if the information proper or not to deliver into news and also the basic concept of citizen journalism that carry out by the people themselve who will give the information such as a reporter.The methods that use in this research are qualitative description and perspective interactive. This research was made in FM Idola Radio Semarang and the resource was the staff who may concern.From this research  can be take a conclusion than the gatekeeper  take  a role to classify the information from public who act by the Program Manager, news supervisor and reporters. The Gatekeeper is the main point in every broadcast. It has a big role to select every news or informations before they put on the broadcast room to be on air.

Abstract

The development of increasing open world on various aspects of human life which is supported by the mobility and movement and exchange of information quickly. The information of exchage is quickly explain the fact that all human beings can not circumvent intercultural communication.The results of this study explains the theory and science of communication theory explain Phenomenology by Maurice Marleu-Ponty (Littlejohn 1999) is the assumption informants from the experiences and try to understand every event in their environment with personal experiences.The research method used is descriptive qualitative analysis, it is a process of focusing attention on the simplification and transformation of the raw data that comes from the written notes in the field, the presentation of the data is done by using a form of narrative text, drawing conclusions and verification.Different cultural communication barriers conflict for communicators. Language and ethnosentrism be one of the triggers of conflict, such as Batak’s language that is considered rude to make Javanise misunderstand the message. Solutions to communication barriers that are of mutual respect and learn from each other, for example Javanise learning Batak’s langguage and Bataknese learning Javanese’s langguage.Bottom of Form

Abstract

Social media users came from every part of society. The presence and acceptance of social media, of course, not only have an impact on the lives of individual users directly, but it is also have an impact on the lives of the state concerned. It should be understood, that the mass media has the ability to build the image and opinions in the minds of users. Currently there are 6 types of social media are present in the community. the negative impact of social media in fact also present along with the increasing positive impact. The number of negative cases that accompany the presence of social media, making social media seems to be something scary. Therefore, should be wise in using social media.

Abstract

This study aims to understand the audience reception of cultural horoscope, forecasts and the occult are sold through premium SMS services. Basic theory used in this study is the cultivation theory of McQuail (1996) which states that television become a major tool in which the media or the television audience to learn about society and culture environment. In other words, the perception of what our minds awakened about society and culture is largely determined by the television. The research method qualitative descriptive used is a  interpretive perspective. Research was conducted in the city of Semarang. Informants in this study were students of the University of Semarang science communication. Concluded that the analysis of other research has answered this reception, where there are three positions in the analysis of audience reception that is the position of the dominant readings, readings that are negotiated and oppositional readings. From this study it can be concluded if the ad is a Premium SMS content that contents can not be held responsible, this can be seen from the researcher interviewed informants in the field.

Abstract

Yellow press or yellow journalism is types of journalism that have little concern to accuracy and impartiality. This kind of journalism usually used in many metropolitan newspaper that heavily sensationalized crime, sex, and metaphysical news. This kind of newspaper allegedly also found in some Islamic magazine with its own characteristic, in this case Sabili Magazine. These magazines have some unique journalism characteristic that could be compared to yellow journalism. This is including sensationalist, bombastic, and partisan. This writing tries to show how Sabili magazine used types of journalism that have similarities with yellow journalism.

Abstract

The aim of the research to know news framing techniques and ideologies that used Borobudur Television in constructing news Semarang student demonstrations related increases in fuel prices.The theory base used in this research used framing analysis owned Zhongdang and Kosicki that consist of four devices of there: sintaksis, skrip, tematik and retoris. In addition, the concept of social construction, television news, and local television. The question in this research is how news framing techniques and ideologies in the news constructing student demonstrations.This research methodology used is descriptive qualitative. Analysis techniques used in this study is methode framing analysis with analysis models owned Zhongdang Pan and Gerald M. Kosicki. This study analyze the news script Semarang student demonstrations related increases in fuel prices broadcast by Borobudur Television period 20-31 March 2012.It is concluded that news framing techniques used in constructing news Borobudur Television student demonstration it is appropriate with the framing analysis owned Zhongdang because it containts four framing device. And ideologies that are used Borobudur Television appropriate with politics editorials that tends to reveal the reality according to what is happening on the ground.

Abstract

The research aims to understand how to communicate between culture of expatriate cross cultural adaptation process to local society in Semarang. Those, can seen from communing meaning process by language, culture, and lifestyle.The main theories used in this research is Interactional Symbolic Theory. There are three base of principal in Interactional Symbolic Theory by Blummer involve meaning, language, and thought. This permis leads to conclusion about persons self and their socialization to bigger community.Research Methodology used was qualitative descriptive is there search method that seeks to describe and interpret the object as it is, by describing systematically the facts and characteristics of the object studied properly. Data sampling using a purposive sampling that is based on the theoretical basis used, but it can grow as needed and steadiness in obtaining data. Sources studied are the expatriates who live in the city of Semarang. Informants were interviewed were three people who joined in Semarang Expatriate Community who have more than3 years and experiencing the cross culture.This research concluded that cross culture communication in adaptation process of the expatriate to Semarang community vulnerable on problems because of cultural differences, patterns of thought, behavior, and lifestyle habits so that anxiety and uncertainty lead to misunderstandings, and differences in communicating meaning. Therefore, in the process adaptation needs a high sense of empathy and good management meaning and mutual respecting  between different cultures to create a good living in different cultural society.
