Abstract

Character building plays an important role in Islamic education. Even,. The main mission of Prophet Muhammad saw is to improve the moral character of Muslim society. Islamic character can be established through three stages: first, there are values absorbed from Islamic teaching. Second,  these values create the formulation of thinking to be the formulation of vision. Third, this vision becomes the mentality resulting attitude. The dominant attitude in a person is character or personality. From this simple analysis, the writer finds that there are still many characters found which do not reflect Islamic values, both from student’s understanding and their actualization in everyday life.

Abstract

The plurality can not be separated from the religious understanding. The development of Islamic studies after the companion era has likely created the fragmentation of Islamic studies into some separated disciplines (Kalam, fiqh, tafsir , tasauf). This writing tries to analyze the relationship between the concept of Muhammadiyah’s belief on its nash and fiqh about the marriage with ahl kitab and the leadership of woman. By studying the formal decisions of Muhammadiyah through historical approach, it is described the change of the concept of belief to nash to view how is the relationship between theology and fiqh.

Abstract

Nowadays, the management of Madarasah Aliyah is not maximal yet. The quality of its management is still under of SMU. In fact, there is UU SIKDIKNAS eliminating the discrimination between the secular and religious education. This law is explained in PP. NO. 19 in 2005 about the standardization of national education. But it does not improve the quality of MA. This regulation is described in a detailed explanation in PP. NO. 19 in 2007 about the standardization of  education’s management. This clearly explain the management of MA, including the implementation of MA’s programs, funding, ethics, supervision, evaluation, leadership of MA, and information access. These are done based on independence, partnership, participation, transparency, and accountability. Therefore, the management of MA should be effective and efficient.

Abstract

Tuhfat al-nafis is a historical work discussing about the Malay history until the modern era, including the explanation about the family of kingdom selangor written by Raja ali Haji Riau. Tuhfat al-Nafis is less known and studied in this century, perhaps due to the Britain colonialism, this text was not used in school as the obligatory text. Before the independence, Malay children read other Malay texts, such as Sejarah Melayu, Hikayat Abdullah, and Hikayat Hang Tua. The great work of Tuhfat al-Nafis is the most complicated and sophisticated historical work among all Malay works written before the twentieth century. This study is the ultimate work in Malay treatise and culture which increases its writer’s confidence. There are some argumentations showing that tuhfat al-nafis is a great work distinguishing it with other texts. First, historical conception of this study is wider and deeper than other Malay historical texts. Second, its conception and scope of space and time are too wide. Third, from the perspective of historiography,  Raja Ali haji develops a new rule in telling the historical events. Fourth, from the perspective of language, philosophy, and historiography, Raja Ali Haji synthesize between Malay tradition and Islamic tradition. Fifth, its language style and content is easily to read and it is fun to follow its narration

Abstract

The religious thoughts proposed Muslim thinkers since the middle age have been caused by same understanding, namely how is religious can be understood truly. In the second phase of the first hijriah, there were two significant developments in history of Islamic society. First, there was internal conflict in Islamic society. Second, there was the arrival of  Persian. From these two developments, there were some questions on theology and imamah (leadership). Based on these questions, some Muslim thinkers proposed their answers based on true Islamic teaching. Each formulation emerged and developed as different thought. Historically, the presence of syiah itsna Asyariyah can be separated from the doctrines and its interpretations to some verses adopted to justify it after the  mystery of Muhammad al-Muntazhar (al-Mahdi), or compared with Imam al-Ja’far al-Shadiq, or even with Ali bin Abu Thalib. In fact, some ideas proposed that Ali did not know about his special status as imam ma’shum. Based on historical sources, the rise of some Syiah doctrines was mainly due to political problem. But, in later development, the syiah is acknowledged as theological sect.

Abstract

The problem of Imamah during the death of the Prophet Muhammad saw became the serious political discussion in the Muslim society and his companions at that time. The central discussion was on who would replace his position as the leader of Muslim community. This became the early political conflict in the history of Muslim society, and its ultimate conflict was during the Uthman Caliph. There were many conflicts, challenges, and even victims. There three main contestants involved, namely, Muawiyah, Khawarij, and Syiah (the followers of Ali bin Abu Thalib). In this case, Syiah Imamiyah Itsna ‘Asyariyah related to its concept of imamah and fiqh has different doctrine compared to other sects.

Abstract

The practice of Islamic education generally is not based on the designed concept but it is only based on accidental concept. The consciousness about the importance of developing Islamic education appears to be Islamic studies after it needs some concepts and designs of education to face the western bombardier in educational practice.   The sources to study Islamic studies are many. First, it can be taken from the Qur’an and Hadits which emerges the special characteristic of Islamic education, namely normative-perennial. Second, it can be explored the facts and data of Islamic history on Islamic education from the Prophet Muhammad’s time up to now. Third, there was Islamic philosophical thought which supports the study of Islamic education on philosophical character. Fourth, it can be developed the applicative-pragmatic type of Islamic education taken from field study. As a result, it can be proposed that the chance to make Islamic education to be a capital to reach the future is not obscure. Therefore, Islamic education should have culture of spirit based on Islamic values, Islamic traditions, Islamic characters,  and the best services.

Abstract

The history of Islamic thought development, particularly tasauf  and tarekat nagsabandiyah, has a complicated and crucial relationship between Javanese ulama and elite of Malay ulama. A study of the development and activity of Sufism in Riau is not paid a great attention yet. This study then tries to find the obscurity of the development and activity of Sufism in Riau, particularly in Pelalawan. Regarding this, the information is taken from some ulamas, mursyid, khalifah, and syekh.  This is because they play an important role in disseminating Sufism tradition in this modern era
