Abstract

Both Syariah Life Insurance and Conventional Insurance basically have the same objective, that is, management or risk-solving. The basic difference between the two only lies on their management. The management of the conventional insurance risk is in the form of transfer risk of the customers to the insurance companies, whereas the Syariah Life Insurance aims at helping each other among the customers and bear the risk together (risk- sharing). Another difference lies on how to manage the components of the insurance product. In this respect, the Syariah Life Insurance embraces Syariah investment system and is free from ribawi, gharar dan maysir. The difference can also be seen from their contract system (akad) that is related to the management of the insurance funding as it is bound to the premium  and profit.

Abstract

The Perspective of al-Qur’an on Slavery: Some Efforts to Combat Slavery in Islam: Men are basically created as the greatest creation in a free and independent condition. It is wrong if men restrict and restrain themselves towards others; moreover, if they worship the creation of God. Therefore, to avoid self-slavery towards human beings or towards disire, things, jobs, women and others, Alqur’an has taught people to worship the only God, the Creator. This is not to say that one has restrained himself towards self-slavery when God is the only One he worships. Indeed, it is by worshiping God that men even free and distance themselves from any forms of slavery.

Abstract

The Liberal Islamic Network (JIL) is a community with progressive thoughts. The community whose routine agenda deals with the discussion of social and religious issues believe that there are different ideas with what most Muslim scholars commonly follow particularly in social aspects of Muslim daily lives (mu’ammalah). The liberal thoughts they campaign brought the writer to a comprehensive research on their cross-religion marriage perspective that is nationally known by among most people nowadays. This research was mainly aimed to find out why the Liberal Islamic Network allows a cross-religion marriage which has long been prohibited by both Islamic legal system and Indonesian positive common law. The findings of the research help the writer find the fact that the idea of the Liberal Islamic Network is based on several approaches, i.e. history, normative theology, philosophy and sociology. The Liberal Islamic Network makes some interpretations on well-known religious texts that are understood as the major issue which forbids the cross-religion marriage. It interprets these religious texts using non-liberal methods with some adjustments towards the socio-cultural condition and the context of people especially in Indonesia. The plural and universal values which have been the main icon of the Network were also proposed to be the basic value of permitting this kind of marriage

Abstract

The Harmony of the System of al-Qur’an: A study towards Munasabah in al-Qur’an:  Understanding the message of AlQur’an integrally through its system is very important in order to avoid misperception that there are always contradictions in Alqur’an. In reality, there are people including teachers and ‘muballihgs’ who do not know how to understand Alqur’an integrally which actually can bring harmony. ‘Ilmu Munasabah’, in fact, attempts to find the relationship and the harmony between the verses in Alqur’an and the surah so that the message can be understood integrally.

Abstract

Different concepts and ideas show that the issues in Islamic education are endless. The development of human civilization and new findings in this field will influence the direction, orientation, form and the system of Islamic education. This brings educationalists to see deeply the educational concepts which have been applicable and reliable for sometime. The use of the term ‘tarbiah, although it has been widely used, seems to be a controversial issue. Some contemporary Islamic educationalists tend to use the term ta’dib instead of tarbiyah. In its conceptual structure ta’dib has covered the elements of science (‘Ilm), teaching (ta’lim) and good education (tarbiyah). Therefore, ta’dib is the most appropriate and accurate term to show the Islamic education

Abstract

One of the forms of miracle in terms of language which remains unresolved till today is al-ahruf al-muqatt’ah which means that cut off letters begin some surrah in Alqur’an. The presence of these letters has resulted in different views among Muslim scholars since the Prophet times. Al-Thabari attempted to disclose this so that a clear picture on al-ahruf al-muqatta’ah could be seen. When classified, in Tafsir Al-Thabari al-ahruf al-muqatta’ah has some meanings, among others the name of God, the Greatest  used as an oath, the name of Alqur’an and the abbreviation of God’s characteristics.

Abstract

Human development undergoes several phases. One of the phases is adolescence which is often regarded identical with disobedience. In this phase a child who was previously  honest begins to change. He goes out more often than staying at home watching TV or playing games. Such a condition often makes the parents go into anxiety and fear that their child is starting to be naughty without trying to understand his real conditions. This article aims to describe children’s real condition and offers some solutions to their problems

Abstract

The concept of qira’at al-sab’ah of Ibn Muj’ahid’s version was born in a condition where the difference in qira’at was expected to be a mercy for Muslims. In fact, it became a ‘chaos’ in Qur’an reading which prompted him to make a clarification by evaluating the history behind its presence selectively. Finally, it was found out that the history was made by seven qira’at leaders. He took an inventory on this in his work ‘Kitab al-Sab’ah fi al-Qira’ah which is more known as Qira’ah al-Sab’ah. This means that confusions should no longer happen towards qira’at Alqur’an. This book gives a lot of contribution to the development of qira’at itself. Ibn Muj’ahid, with his easily understood method, made a complete formulation so that the book entitled Al-Sab’ah and the concept of qira’at al-Sab’ah were kept integrated. Besides, from the point of view of maintaining Al-Qur’an, Ibn Muj’ahid continued what had been done by his predecessor who kept the originality of the Holy Book such as Abu Bakar al-Shiddiq, Umar ibn al-Khaththab, Zayd bin al-Harits, Utsman ibn ‘Affan and others. His success in formulating the concept of qira’at al-Sab’ah was finally agreed by ‘Jumhur Ulama’ (Muslim Scholars Organization) as qira’at Mutawatir.

Abstract

Poverty is one of the causes of the deterioration and destruction in a nation. Islam even regards this as a threat of devils. Therefore, poverty should be pulled out in order to develop advancement and avoid destruction in a nation. In this respect, Islam plays a key role to combat it. There is no question that Islam is a religion with complete rules that is able to overcome any problems in human life including poverty. Clearly, Islam has certain ways to solve poverty problems.  It is true that Islamic laws have rules related to poverty problem-solving either poverty in nature, culture or structure that have synergic relationships with other laws.

Abstract

Fundamentalism is a negative term given by the West to Islam. But fundamentalism itself is in fact a global phenomenon that can be found in all traditions of the greatest religions in the world. Yusuf Qardhawi gives a term of fundamentalism ash-shahwah because according to him this is the most appropriate term for it. Although the West view fundamentalism negatively such as terrorist, radical, and militant, Yusuf Qardhawi views it positively. According to him, ash-shahwah means resurgence, the awareness of describing the phenomenon of contemporary Islam. He further reveals that we would always agree to ash-washathiyatul al-Islam (jalan tengah) which is based on finding the easier way and giving good news and integrating originality and innovation.
