Kafa’ah (Print ISSN 2356-0894 Online ISSN 2356-0630)is an open-access and peer reviewed journal published by Center for Gender and Child Studies, State Institute of Islamic Studies (IAIN) Imam Bonjol Padang. This journal covers key issues on gender studies, including: place of women in society, empowering women, and government policies on women empowerment. The objective of the journal is to promote the sharing of knowledge and understanding on the gender issues. It then welcomes contributions from experts, researchers, practitioners, and policy makers around the world. This journal is published twice a year.

Abstract

The low participation and involvement of women in politics has seen some discrimination and injustice against women, because they do not attention development policies are gender oriented. It is well recognized by women in Indonesia, so the post-New Order government womens advocacy movement that gave birth to affirmative action that essentially encourages and guarantees against women to be involved in politics. Significant impact of affirmative action is the birth of a minimal system of representation of women in parliament 30%. This representation system, reinforced in 2009 with the implementation zipper election system, where from 1-3 candidates proposed must be female. Abstract

Affirmative action in gender mainstreaming at politic party, is marked with the existence of quota 30% women role in nomination quota of legislative member inviting pro and contra. There are two perspectives in looking at this gender. First, positivistic perspective (or objective) which sees that women have to be given opportunity in political space, its importance if women to have make of policy. Proper women isn’t it well-balance position with men in legislative because amount residents of more women compared to men. Second the naturalistic perspective (or subjective). Which my tries to express that women have their own responsible and their readiness of women to enter political world. Abstract

Arabic is one of - or perhaps only - among the most gender biased language. Symbols in the Arabic language is authentic evidence of how clearly illustrated the superiority of men over women, especially in matters irab (grammatical) and signs. Abstract

Minangkabau is one of the largest ethnic groups in Indonesia, which has a matrilineal kinship system. In the matrilinal Minangkabau kinship system, women get a different position when compared with women in patrilineal societies. Abstract

Talk about women in Islamic studies became more prevalent and warmed up, it even looks that this study has never lost its appeal. All activities are highlighted in the context of modern life, because in some of them there are only dropped as a housewife (domistic-worker). But became a career woman and even plunge into politics, so this statement has invited some controversial comments. Abstract

As a participating member of the United Nations approved the Universal Declaration, Indonesia  also ratified the provisions of the Declaration of Human Rights and the Convention On The Elimination Off All Forms of Discrimination Against Women with the enactment of Law No. 7 of 1984. One of the conditions set forth in it is the elimination of discrimination against women in the field of marriage. Furthermore, the Indonesian government also has an obligation to implement the contents of the declaration in its laws and regulations. This means that Indonesia implement the provisions of legislation in the field of marriage law in Indonesia that are relevant to the content of the convention.
