Abstract

The objectives of this research were to analyze and assess performance of Desa Mandiri programon infrastructure development activities for the land and swamp typology village in Inhil District.This research used logical framework analysis (Kerangka Kerja Logis/KKL). Research resultsshowed that the performance of infrastructure development is quite good and the planning andimplementation are reciprocal to achieve goals. Empowerment-based infrastructure developmenthas encouraged self-reliance and working together (gotong royong), and public institutionfunctioning. It resulted in higher physical realization than the plan (over achievement), so thereis eficiency in the use of development budget. The weaknesses are as follow: lack of programsocialization, allocation of funds which is based on even distribution, lack of coordination andsynergy with related institutions, low capacity of village resource management (LPM), weakguidance and lack of community involvement in supervision.

Abstract

The bargaining power of consumers is a significant factor that determines the structure ofindustry competition. Due to the fact that the majority of Indonesians are Muslim, issues on nonhalal products have significant impact on processed food business. In regards to this increasedawareness in the community, there are some problems related to processed food businesses,which are consumers’ perceptions, producers’ concerns, limited number of accreditationinstitution ofice, and costly procedures of halal certification. Analysis of this issues used SoftSystem Methodology (SSM), where the transformation processes expected was set up, scenarioswere built and strategies in raising halal awareness were developed based on scenarios. Theconclusion is that the government should be able to evaluate the impact and immediacy of theissues, and developing appropriate strategies to establish a favorable business environment aswell as satisfy community’s needs. The successful of this strategy definitely is unable to get bywithout the government’s seriousness in performing its function as public servant andgovernment’ political will to protect the communi t y f rom publi c decept ion acti ons.

Abstract

Arwana fish (Scleropages formosus) is categorized as protected wild animal. This fish hasexclusive and beautiful appearance and it is used as prestigious symbol, pride and lucky charm.This research was conducted at PT. Sumatera Aquaprima Buana in Muara Fajar, Rumbai,Pekanbaru, from October until December 2008. The result showed that the production ofArwana fish in 1 period (3 months) produced 1.927 fish with various selling prince with theearning of Rp. 732.260.000, and the net earning was Rp. 420.171.683,33 by RCR 2,35. It isefficient because the RCR is more than 1 so this business is a prospective one. SWOT Analysisresulted in three priorities: 1) Minimize net-operating cost for fish meal by producing own fishmeal, 2) Expand the market share by expanding marketing network. 3) Join exhibition tostimulate local or domestic consumers.

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to identify : 1) impact of production factors, (plantation area,fertilizer, pesticide, number of trees, and labor) on production of coconut nucleus estate, 2)return to scale of coconut nucleus estate, 3) efficiency of production factors used, and 4)farmers’ problems in managing business. This research was conducted in Pulau BurungRegency, Indragiri Hilir District, the only Nucleus Estate of hybrid coconut tree program inIndonesia. Primary data were collected from 90 respondents. Results showed that productionfactors of fertilizer and labor significantly affected production of coconut trees withdetermination coefficient of 79,3 %. Each of these factors influenced the production at differentrate. Total coefficient of production elasticities was 1.307, indicated that production process wasin the area of increasing to scale. However, because marginal product value were 0,081 forfertilizer and 0,193 for labor, further increase of production factor use is not economicallyfeasible. This is due to coconut price which is much less than market price. The farmers’problems are lack of capital to support production, high prices of inputs while coconut price islow. The research recommended that government increases support in term of input subsidies,community development and partnership, farmer credit scheme with low interest, and review ofcurrent predetermined and regulated price of fresh coconut.

Abstract

The potential of coconut as one of economical agriculture commodities that can be processedinto products such as nata de coco and others. This survey study was conducted in Tembilahan,Indragiri Hilir District as an area which has the nata de coco agroindustry. This research wasconducted from May to August 2008. The results concluded that development strategies for natade coco indsutry are as follow: improve production planning capability, increase productioncapacity, improve the standard of product quality, enhance marketing campaigns through widerdistribution, diversify market segments and use institutions such as Aspari.
