The Biopsychosocial Concept in Psychosomatic Complaints

Abstract

Biopsychosocial concept introduced by George Engel to replace biomedic concept, which only see medical condition in terms of biological and medical aspects. Biologic, psychologic, and social appproach is a suitable approach for psychosomatic symptoms. Psychosomatic complaints are physical complaints that are based on psychological conditions. Psychosomatic complaints are usually experienced by patients who suffer from somatization disorder, hypochondriasis, anxiety disorders, and depressive disorders. Treatment in patients with psychosomatic complaints consist of combination between psychotherapy and psychopharmatherapy.
