Abstract

This research aims to motivate students to think critically and analytically, through Problem-based Learning, thus, their ability to give argument increases. It needs to do since the students’ shyness and anxiety becomes major obstacles for each individual both to communicate and to give argument. Research design is done through Lesson Study having three stages; they are plan, do, and see. Result of this investigation shows that there are two factors causing the decrease of students’ ability to give argument. They are their anxiety (fear) and their low ability to understand subject matter concept. But, through Problem-based Learning with Lesson Study system, the students’ fear can be eliminated. The students’ understanding of subject matter concept also increases. This increase is balanced by the increase of students’ ability to give argument up to 95% of a number of students involved in this learning.
