Abstract

Tittle: Co-management of Marine Resource : Lesson Learnt from the Management Model of Co-Fish in Lombok Timur District, Nusa Tenggara Barat Province.Theoritically, the practice of marine resource management was created as a criticied of centralistic management wich being, that was practiced in Indonesia for a long time , and community-based management. Abstract

Tittle: The Operation of Arad Net in The North Coast of Java: Problems and Their Solutions. The article of “The Operation of Arad Net in The North Coast of Java: Problems and their Solution” discusses the problem of fishers conflict especially related to the usage of arad net in North Coast of Central Java and West Java. This article was conducted in Rembang and Cirebon Regencies. Qualitative approach was used in the research. Results showed that the exploitation of shrimps using a semi-trawl called ‘jaring arad’ was considered a social phenomenon of fishing to cope daily life. This phenomenon also shows that there was a short term profit orientation without considering long-term impact on social, economic and environment aspects. The effort to reduce the used of arad in Pantura was not easy. Government has erected the regulation on banning the used of arad. However, low enforcement was quite weak. This is because the officer could not effectively control territory and was not supported by adequate infrastructure and equipments. That is why, it seemed that regulation on banning the use of arad was not supported by adequate enforcement efforts. Hence, problem related the use of Arad could not be solved effectively.

The technological changes and market economic orientation are factors affecting the change of activities of both male and female workers as well as distribution of work in the household. On the fisher societies, the technological changes have made female workers to involve from productive to pasca productive activities. That also change distribution of work on male and female workers. Firstly, both of husband and wife do together in productive and pasca productive activities, such as fishing and fish processing, and both of them also conduct a domestic activities. Due to technological changes, fishing activitities is only conducted by male (husband), while female (wife) do fish processing, marketing and also domestic activities. In other words, technology changes tend to set free a male from domestic activities (household duties).

Abstract

The great potential of fish resources makes Maluku Province as the national fish center supporting the fish need all over Indonesia. At the national rate, it encourages high fish consumption per capita of Mollucan. This papers draws the relationships between the availability of fish production and the inhabitants consumption inhabitans per capita as well as the fish comsumption pattern of the Hitumesing People. This paper was based on field research in Central Maluku, in which data were gathered from questionnaire and interview guideline. Moreover, focus group discussion (FGD) and observation were also conducted. Results show the production of fish in Central Maluku is much higher than the number of fish consumption. It is even much greater than the average of fish consumption per capita of Hitumesing people. Alhough Hitumessing Village is a coastal village with easy access to the fish resources, the fishermen tend to sell the fish rather than to consume it.
