Abstract

ABSTRACTLiquorice root extract (Glycyrrhiza glabra L.) contains glabridin, an isoflavane as inhibitors of tyrosinase. This enzyme is responsible in melanin synthesis. The aim of this research was to determine the tyrosinase inhibition activity of liquorice root extract and to formulate into a cream with a variety of emulsifier agent glyceryl monostearate. Liquorice root was macerated using ethanol 96%, invitro tyrosinase inhibition assay was conducted using kojic acid as positive control in 96-well plate. The physical quality parameters of the cream were also evaluated. The results showed that liquorice root extract inhibits tyrosinase with the IC50 126.75 µg/mL. Creams containing 1.01% liquorice root extract were yellowish white, aromatics odour, soft texture, homogen and no segregation in O/W emulsion type. It also showed plastic thixotropic rheological property, viscosity of (2800±0.00) – (4000±0.00) Ps, spreadability of (3029.72±0.81) – (3531.79±6.15)mm2, droplet size of (60.00±0.00) – (65.12±0.01)μm, pH of (4.55±0.03)–(4.63±0.04) and inhibited tyrosinase 10.14 - 19.30%. It can be concluded that the formula with 0.1% of glyceryl monostearate was the best formula that conforms physical quality test and potentially to be developed as a skin whitening cream.

Abstract

Star fruit (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) can be used as anti acne because of flavonoid content, which is active to inhibiting the growth of Propionibacterium acnes bacteria. The extract of star fruit at concentration 8% have 8-9 mm diameter inhibition, then formulated become a peel-off mask gel with the doses of extract at 8% as anti acne. The preparation of peel-off mask gel made in three formula with PVA variations, there are 10%, 12% and 14%; were made by dissolving and mixing method. The evaluation of the preparation are including homogeneity, the visual observation, elongation, the drying time, viscosity, rheology and the activity of inhibition againts the growth of Propionibacterium acnes bacteria in microbiologycal assay.

Abstract

Soya milk is an extraction product from soya bean that can be used as humectant due to its amino acids which are similar to those in our skin, such as glycine, serine, alanine, asparagine, ornithine, citruline, proline, and 17 other amino acids. ln this study, a liquid facial Wash containing soya milk using lauret-7-citrate (concentration 0, 1, 2, and 3%) was formulated that could affect the surface active characteristis, and the foam formation. The organoleptic characteristics, density, viscosity, rheology, surface tension, foam height and stability of foam height in pure and hard Water were determined at 25°C and 40°C for 8 Weeks. The results obtained showed that the best facial Wash was that contained 15% soya milk (2% lauret-7-citrate) of which had the following properties: a pseudoplastic rheology, a density of 1.076-l.079 g/cm3, a viscosity of 14,550-17,300 cPs, a surface tension of 25.41-27.18 dyne/ cm3, foam height in pure Water of 850-866.67 ml and in hard Water 466.67-600 ml, and stable at pH 4.99-5.00.

Abstract

Buah kiwi telah digunakan untuk perawatan rambut karena kandungan vitamin C, vitamin E dan arginin yang bermanfaat menjaga kesehatan rambut, membantu meningkatkan sirkulasi di kulit kepala dan melembutkan serta menutrisi rambut. Telah dilakukan penelitian formulasi sediaan untuk perawatan rambut yakni kondisioner rambut bilas (rinse-off hair conditioner) yang mengandung ektrak buah kiwi sebanyak 8 formula dengan variasi jenis lemak alkohol (setil alkohol, stearil alkohol, setostearil alkohol dan behenil alkohol) dengan konsentrasi masing-masing 4% untuk mendapatkan formula sediaan kondisioner rambut bilas dengan satu jenis lemak alkohol yang menghasilkan viskositas yang sesuai dan stabil secara fisik. Sediaan ini dibuat dengan cara pemanasan pada suhu 70-80oC dan pencampuran antara fase minyak dan fase air, yaitu fase minyak dicampurkan ke dalam fase air. Sediaan yang dihasilkan dievaluasi secara fisik dan kimia meliputi uji organoleptik, homogenitas, tipe emulsi, viskositas dan sifat alir, sentrifugasi dan ukuran partikel serta pH.
