Abstract

The study of food preference of arfak rainbowfish (Melanotaenia arfakensis) in Nimbai and Aimasi streams, and Prafi river system were conducted from June to December 2007. Sampling was carried out monthly for seven months in four different habitat types, i.e. slow littoral, still littoral, pool, and run areas. Results showed that abundance of plankton and macroinvertebrate were found both in slow littoral and medium littoral, especially during low flow period (June to October). Macroinvertebrate that found naturally abundance are insect groups. Arfak rainbowfish are insectivorous, with preponderance index of stomach content during these periods are dominated by insect groups, i.e. Diptera, Ephemero-ptera, Coleoptera, and Trichoptera, so this species categorized as insectivorous. Also, electivity index showed a trend of food specification that naturally abundance. In order to maintain the population of arfak rainbowfish, conservation of their natural habitats is needed, especially riparian zone in channel of stream as its site of food source. AbstrakPenelitian preferensi makanan ikan pelangi arfak (Melanotaenia arfakensis) di Sungai Nimbai dan Aimasi di sistem Sungai Prafi dilaksanakan dari bulan Juni sampai Desember 2007. Pengambilan contoh dilakukan pada empat tipe habitat di dua lokasi penelitian, yaitu: bagian tepi beraliran lambat, bagian tepi beraliran sedang, lubuk, dan daerah beralir-an deras. Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan bahwa kelimpahan plankton dan makroavertebrata ditemukan pada tipe habitat beraliran lambat dan sedang pada saat kondisi debit air rendah (Juni-Oktober). Makroavertebrata yang ditemukan berlimpah adalah kelompok insekta. Ikan pelangi arfak adalah insektivora, terutama didominasi oleh kelompok insekta, ya-itu Diptera, Ephemeroptera, Coleoptera, dan Trichoptera. Indeks pilihan menunjukkan adanya kecenderungan pemilihan makanan yang terdapat dalam kondisi melimpah di perairan. Guna menjaga kelestarian ikan ini, konservasi habitat alaminya sangat diperlukan, terutama zona riparian yang merupakan tapak sumber daya makanannya.

Abstract

This study was carried out from July to December 2009 in three locations of seagrass area at Lonthoir Strait, Banda Archipelago, Moluccas. The aim of study is to analyze seagrass condition and spatial distribution of the rabbitfish Siganus canaliculatus. The result shows that the species density of the seagrass at three stations ranged from 7.48 to 235.50 ind. m-2 with the highest species density is Cymodocea rotundata at station 1 and 2, and Thalassia hemprichii at station 3. The highest abundance of the fish was found at station 1 and the lowest one was at station 2. According the Kruskal-Wallis test, abundance of male and female rabbitfishes were not statistically different at among stations (H = 0.17, P = 0.66 and H = 0.83, P = 0.92). The correspondence analysis shows that there were two groups of habitat of the rabbitfishes in research station. The first group is station 1 and the second one is station 2 and 3.

Abstract

A study on food habit of Fringescale Sardinella, Sardinella fimbriata Val. in Kendari Bay was conducted from March to December 2003. This research aims to observe food habits and feeding periodicity of the fish and relation of the food habits and plankton, food habit was determined by using Index of Relative Importance method. Result of the study indicates that fringescale Sardinella is plankton feeder and taking its food by filtering. Important diet of fish is Bacillariophyceae and Crustacea.

Abstract

Mahalona, Lantoa and Masapi Lakes are three of the five beautiful lakes in South Sulawesi, the other two lakes are Matano and Town ti which bigger than those three. During the Dutch gouvemements there were several expedition to one, two or the five lakes. Rudolf Woltereck was the first biologist which visited and collected fishes from the all of the five lakes and published it in 1933. During 1988-1989, Dr, Maurice Kottelat recollected the fishes and found one new genus and about 8 new species, also designated the neotype of one species from Lake Towuti. A collaborative team between Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), Bogor Agriculture University and Forestry Department received a grant from Asean Regional Center for Biodiversity Conservation (ARCBC) to conduct the research in the five lakes. The results of this research are being reported in a series of scientific journal. The fish biodiversity of Lake Matano already published. This paper is the result of our interesting adventure to reach the three lakes and reporting their fish biodiversity. Twelveof the 17 of Mahalona’s fishes are the endemic species, while in Lake Lantoa there was 4 of the twelve and in Lake Masapi was only one of the twelve endemic fish species.

Abstract

Pengamatan terhadap kematangan gonad beberapa jenis ikan buntal (Tetraodon lunaris, T. fluviatilis, T. reticularis) dilakukan sejak Maret 2000 sampai April 2001 di perairan Ujung Pangkah, Jawa Timur. Sampel ikan ditangkap per bulan dengan menggunakan gill net (mata jaring 2,5 dan 4,5 cm). Gonad diambil, diawet dengan formaldehide 40 % dan ditimbang beratnya (sampai ketelitian 0.1 g) di laboratorium. Pengamatan tingkat kematangan gonad dilakukan secara morfologis. Analisis dilakukan untuk menentukan nisbah kelamin (J/B) dan indeks somatik gonad (GSI). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui musim pemijahan dari beberapa jenis ikan tersebut. Hasil pengamatan didapatkan bahwa jenis Tetraodon reticularis memiliki nisbah kelamin sebesar 1,6:1, T. fluviatilis sebesar 1,2:1 dan T. reticularis sebesar 1,9:1. Tingkat kematangan gonad jenis T. lunaris dan T. reticularis umumnya tidak matang dan matang awal (TKG I dan II) dan tidak ditemukan dalam keadaan matang gonad (TKG III dan IV). T. fluviatilis ditemukan mulai pada tingkat kematangan gonad 1 sampai V dengan prosentase TKG IV terbanyak pada bulan April. Berdasarkan nilai indeks kematangan gonad (IKG) pada T. fluviatilis, didapatkan bahwa nilai tersebut bervariasi 0,01-3.87 (jantan) dan 0.18-2.43 (betina) dengan nilai terbesar pada bulan April. Pada T. lunaris, nilai IKG bervariasi 0,04-5.74 (jantan) dan 0,01-3,62 (betina) dengan nilai terbesar dijumpai pada bulan Mei. Sedangkan pada T. reticularis nilai IKG    bervariasi 0,10-0,83 (jantan) dan 0,05-3,13 (betina). Berdasarkan TKG dan IKG tersebut, didapatkan bahwa puncak musim pemijahan diperkirakan terjadi pada bulan April untuk T. fluviatilis. Sedangkan untuk T. lunaris dan T. reticularis masih belum dapat ditentukan musim pemijahannya.ABSTRACTStudy on the gonad maturity of some puffer fishes (Tetraodon lunaris, T. fluviatilis, T.reticularis) had been done from March 2000 to April 2001 in Ujung Pangkah water, East Java. This study aimed to know spawning season of those fishes. Sex ratio of Tetraodon reticularis, T. fluviatilis and T. reticularis werel.6:l. 1.2:1, and 1.9:1, respectively. Immature and premature gonads were found in T. lunaris', immature, premature, maturing, mature gonads were found in T. fluviatilis, with a peak percentage in April: and immature and premature gonads were found in    T. reticularis. Gonad somatic index (GSI) varied 0,04-5.74 (male) and 0.01-3.62 (female) for T. lunaris with a peak one    in    May;    0,01-3,87 (male) and 0,18-2,43 (female) with a peak one in April for T. fluviatilis', and 0,10-0,83 (male) and 0,05-0,57 (female) for T. reticularis. According to the gonad maturity and gonad somatic index, a peak of spawning season was estimated    to be    in    April for T. fluviatilis. While for the T. lunaris and T. reticularis could not be estimated their spawning season.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate gonad maturity of long tonguesole (Cynoglossus lingua). Samples were collected from August 2005 to Januari 2006 from fish caught by fishermen using gill net and trap net in Ujung Pangkah waters. Analysis was done to estimate gonad maturity, gonado-somatic index, fecundity, and oocyte diameter. Long tonguesole was 202 individual consisted of 94 male and 108 female fish varied 65-325 mm in total body length. Sex ratio was around 1:1.4. First maturity gonad of male and female fish was 94-122 mm. According to gonad maturity stage and gonadosomatic index, fish was estimated to spawn from August to January with a peak one during December. Fecundity was 360-35926 eggs and oocyte diameter was 0.08-0.63 mm. Based on oocyte distribution, the fish was estimated a partial spawner.

Abstract

Information on distribution and community structure of demersal fish resources are important to be known as an input to the management of demersal fisheries. This study aimed to analyze the diversity and distribution of demersal fish resources based on the differences in the depth of the waters and the linkages to the environment. Research conducted in the South China Sea in May to June 2015 by operating a trawl gear in the station preset. The method of analysis of demersal fish diversity use some ecological indices i.e Margalef species richness index, Shannon-Wiener diversity index, Pielou evenness index, and Simpson dominance index. The ecological index value then associated with environmental conditions, using principal component analysis. Distribution of the ecological index indicated the stability of communities demersal fish resources getting better with the increase of depth. The most affected to the level of species richness and distribution of demersal fish were the parameters of depth, temperature and salinity, while the abundance distribution of fishes were associated with dissolved oxygen, and water transparency. The implication, that the water environmental conditions greatly affected the distribution and abundance of demersal fish. AbstrakInformasi mengenai persebaran dan struktur komunitas sumber daya ikan demersal penting sebagai bahan masukan untuk pengelolaan perikanan demersal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis tingkat keanekaragaman dan persebaran sumber daya ikan demersal berdasarkan perbedaan kedalaman perairan, serta keterkaitannya dengan lingkungan. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Laut Cina Selatan pada bulan Mei sampai Juni 2015 dengan mengoperasikan alat tangkap pukat ikan di stasiun yang telah ditetapkan. Metode analisis keanekaragaman hayati ikan demersal menggunakan beberapa indeks ekologi yaitu indeks kekayaan jenis Margalef, indeks keanekaragaman Shannon-Wiener, indeks keseragaman Pielou, dan indeks dominansi Simpson. Nilai indeks ekologi tersebut kemudian dikaitkan dengan kondisi lingkungan, menggunakan analisis komponen utama. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan tingkat kestabilan komunitas sumber daya ikan demersal semakin baik seiring dengan meningkatnya kedalaman. Kedalaman, suhu, dan salinitas merupakan parameter yang paling memengaruhi tingkat kekayaan jenis serta persebaran sumber daya ikan demersal, sedangkan persebaran kelimpahan ikan sangat terkait dengan oksigen terlarut dan kecerahan perairan. Implikasinya, kondisi lingkungan perairan sangat memengaruhi persebaran dan kelimpahan ikan demersal.

Abstract

This study describes feeding habit and strategy of scalloped perchlet (Ambassis nalua) according to ontogenetic shift and seasonal period. The fish samples were collected monthly from December 2010 to November 2011 in Segara Me-nyan Lagoon, West Java. Trammel net and gill net was used to catch the fish sample. We analyzed stomach contents of 380 individuals. Food items of the scalloped perchlet were composed of four categories, namely microcrustaceans, polychaetes, amphipods, and gastropods. According to ontogenetic shift and seasonal period, microcrustaceans used as main food by scalloped perchlet. Conversely, niche breadth of food influenced by ontogenetic shift and seasonal period, whereas percentage of stomach fullness significantly affected by seasonal period. Feeding strategy of the scalloped perchlet was mixed strategies (specialization-generalization). Information about of the diet of the scalloped perchlet shows dependence on estuarine ecosystems that provide of food resources. AbstrakPenelitian ini menggambarkan kebiasaan dan strategi pola makanan ikan seriding berdasarkan perubahan ontogenetik dan musim.Contoh ikan dikoleksi setiap bulan dari Desember 2010 hingga November 2011 di Segara Menyan, Jawa Barat. Penangkapan ikan menggunakan jaring berlapis dan jaring insang. Pengamatan isi saluran pencernaan dilakukan terhadap 380 ekor ikan seriding. Menu makanan terdiri atas empat kategori, yaitu mikrokrustase, polikaeta, amfipoda, dan gastropoda. Berdasarkan perubahan ontogenetik dan musim, ikan seriding menunjukkan menu makanan utama yang sama yaitu mikrokrustase. Kondisi yang berbeda terlihat pada luas relung makanan yang dipengaruhi oleh perubahan ontogenetik dan musim, sementara persentase kepenuhan lambung yang secara nyata dipengaruhi oleh perubahan musim. Strategi pola makanan ikan seriding adalah strategi gabungan (spesialis-generalis). Informasi mengenai menu makanan ikan seriding menunjukkan ketergantungannya terhadap ekosistem estuari yang menjamin ketersediaan makanan.

Abstract

The research aims to describe fish community in Telaga Warna, including species diversity and food web. Fish was sampled using cast net in three times at rainy season, inter season, and dry season in 2007. Physicochemical parameters were ex situ and in situ. Plankton was identified until genus. Fish samples were observed in laboratory. Water physicochemical support fishes living process in Telaga Warna. All fishes in Telaga Warna are non-native species. Almost of them is grouped as a plankton-feeder which eats on phytoplankton and zooplankton.AbstrakPenelitian bertujuan untuk memerikan komunitas ikan yang menghuni Telaga Warna, mencakup keanekaragaman ikan dan jejaring makanan. Pengambilan contoh ikan menggunakan jala yang dilaksanakan tiga kali pada musim penghujan, pancaroba, dan kemarau tahun 2007. Parameter fisikokimiawi diambil ex situ and in situ. Plankton diidentifikasi sampai tingkat genus. Ikan contoh dianalisis di laboratorium. Kualitas air mendukung kehidupan ikan di Telaga Warna. Semua jenis ikan bukan spesies asli. Hampir seluruh jenis ikan termasuk kelompok planktivora yang memakan fitoplankton dan zooplankton.

Abstract

A study on habitat of Telmatherina sarasinorum was conducted in Lake Matano. An underwater observation on the fish habitat was performed to allow description on habitat while investigating its reproductive behaviour. There were two types of spawning habitat on the fish observed. The first was shallow beach with flat contour and bottom covered by cobble and little sand in between which was located in littoral area with trees on the lake sides. The second was deeper water with steeper bottom which has hanging down roots and fallen down stems and twigs of any trees covered by alga. In the two habitats the fish prefers shading places provided by any trees existing on the lake sides as spawning sites. The fish was not observed spawn in places covered by dense cobbles and open waters exposed directly to sunlight. Such a habitat specialist becomes important factor needed to be taken into account in the attempts to conserve the fish and its habitat in Lake Matano. Maintaining the existence of spawning habitat through protecting the presence of terrestrial vegetation surrounding the lake is important key for conservation of the fish and its habitat. AbstrakPenelitian tentang habitat Telmatherina sarasinorum dilakukan di Danau Matano. Pengamatan bawah air pada habitat ikan ini dilakukan untuk membuat gambaran mengenai habitat sambil meneliti tingkah laku reproduksinya. Ada dua tipe habitat pemijahan ikan yang diamati. Pertama adalah pantai dangkal dengan kontur datar dan dasar ditutupi oleh kerikil dan sedikit pasir diantaranya yang terletak di daerah litoral dengan pohon-pohon di pinggiran danau. Kedua adalah perairan dalam dengan dasar lebih curam yang mempunyai akar-akar menggantung serta batang dan ranting pohon tumbang yang diselimuti oleh alga. Pada kedua tipe habitat tersebut ikan menyukai tempat-tempat teduh yang mendapat bayang-bayang dari pohon yang ada di pinggiran danau sebagai tempat pemijahan. Ikan diamati tidak memijah di tempat-tempat yang ditutupi oleh kerikil yang padat dan perairan terbuka yang terpapar langsung oleh cahaya matahari. Habitat khusus demikian merupakan faktor penting yang perlu dipertimbangkan dalam usaha konservasi ikan dan habitatnya di Danau Matano. Pemeliharaan habitat pemijahan melalui perlindungan keberadaan vegetasi terestrial di sekeliling danau adalah kunci penting untuk konservasi ikan dan habitatnya.
