Abstract

The study of food preference of arfak rainbowfish (Melanotaenia arfakensis) in Nimbai and Aimasi streams, and Prafi river system were conducted from June to December 2007. Sampling was carried out monthly for seven months in four different habitat types, i.e. slow littoral, still littoral, pool, and run areas. Results showed that abundance of plankton and macroinvertebrate were found both in slow littoral and medium littoral, especially during low flow period (June to October). Macroinvertebrate that found naturally abundance are insect groups. Arfak rainbowfish are insectivorous, with preponderance index of stomach content during these periods are dominated by insect groups, i.e. Diptera, Ephemero-ptera, Coleoptera, and Trichoptera, so this species categorized as insectivorous. Also, electivity index showed a trend of food specification that naturally abundance. In order to maintain the population of arfak rainbowfish, conservation of their natural habitats is needed, especially riparian zone in channel of stream as its site of food source. AbstrakPenelitian preferensi makanan ikan pelangi arfak (Melanotaenia arfakensis) di Sungai Nimbai dan Aimasi di sistem Sungai Prafi dilaksanakan dari bulan Juni sampai Desember 2007. Pengambilan contoh dilakukan pada empat tipe habitat di dua lokasi penelitian, yaitu: bagian tepi beraliran lambat, bagian tepi beraliran sedang, lubuk, dan daerah beralir-an deras. Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan bahwa kelimpahan plankton dan makroavertebrata ditemukan pada tipe habitat beraliran lambat dan sedang pada saat kondisi debit air rendah (Juni-Oktober). Makroavertebrata yang ditemukan berlimpah adalah kelompok insekta. Ikan pelangi arfak adalah insektivora, terutama didominasi oleh kelompok insekta, ya-itu Diptera, Ephemeroptera, Coleoptera, dan Trichoptera. Indeks pilihan menunjukkan adanya kecenderungan pemilihan makanan yang terdapat dalam kondisi melimpah di perairan. Guna menjaga kelestarian ikan ini, konservasi habitat alaminya sangat diperlukan, terutama zona riparian yang merupakan tapak sumber daya makanannya.

Abstract

The research was conducted in Labuan Bay Banten from April to June 1999. The number offish were 282, 120 males and 212 females. The sex ratio was 1: 1, 25. The samples were dominated by fish of length 90 - 170 mm. The fish mature gonad of the male was predicted at 120 mm and the female was 125 mm in length. Their fecundity ranged BETWEEN 19.116 - 89.344 according to distribution. According to distribution of egg diameter, the fish was total spawner. The fish growth was isometric and it was carnivore which fish and shrimp as main food. ABSTRAKPenelitian dilakukan di teluk Banten dari bulan April-Juni 1999. Ikan yang diamati berjumlah 382 ekor yang terdiri atas 170 ekor jantan dan 212 ekor betina. Komposisi jumlah ikan jantan dan betina menunjukkan rasio kelamin yang tidak seimbang. Ikan dengan panjang 99 -170 mm mendominasi hasil tangkapan. Ikan jantan diduga pertama kali matang gonad pada ukuran 120 mm dan ikan betina pada ukuran panjang 125 mm. Fekunditas ikan biji nangka berkisar antara 19.116-89.344 butir. Ikan mempunyai sifat pemijahan total. Pertumbuhan ikan bersifat isometrik. Ikan ini termasuk karnivor dengan makanan utama udang dan ikan.

Abstract

Fish fauna exploration al Cimanuk River was conducted from June 1999 up to January 2000. Two months interval of sampling were done at the three segments of the river (the upper stream = Garut area, the middle stream = Sumedang area and the down stream = Indramayu area). About 40 species of 20 families, were recorded. The fish fauna were dominated by species belongs to Cyprinidae, and Rasbora laterisiriata found in the three segments. Each segment has different number of species. The existing fish were potential to be developed as fish food and ornamental species for aquarium. ABSTRAKUpaya untuk mendapatkan informasi tentang kcragaman jenis ikan di Sungai Cimanuk dilakukan antara Bulan Juni 1999 dan Januari 2000 dengan pengambilan contoh selang dua bulan, Sungai Cimanuk dibagi menjadi tiga segmen sungai yaitu hulu (Garut). tengah (Sumedang). dan hilir (Indramayu). Selama penelitian ditemukan ikan sebanyak 40 jenis yang tercakup di dalam 20 famili. Famili Cyprinidae mempunyai spesies yang paling banyak ditemukan. Satu-satunya spesies/jenis ikan yang ditemukan di tiga segmen sungai ialah ikan paray (Rasbora laterisiriata). Jumlah jenis ikan pada masing-masing segmen sungai tidak merata. Ikan di sungai Cimanuk dapat dikembangkan sebagai ikan konsumsi dan ikan hias.

Abstract

The research was conducted in Labuan Bay, Banten from April - June 1999. The fish sample was collected once in every five days. The total fish collected were 483 with 75 - 265 mm of total length and 4.85 - 169.81 grams in weight. Sexual composition was 252 male, 183 female, and 48 of the ambiguous sex. The fish sample was divided into 4 groups of total length (small, medium, and extra large). The medium size was 124 -171 mm) was the most number of the sample (248). According to length weight relationship the growth pattern of the fish was negative allometric. Condition factor of the fish was increased from small to medium size. While the biggest size (extra large) the condition as decreased. This phenomenon maybe because a lot of their gonad were in atresia, A lot of the condition of food material was destructed and impossible to be identified. The female primarily consumed shrimp and squilla. The male feed on shrimp, crab, and fish. According to the time-series of sampling the shrimp had primer index, and the second crab, the third was fish.ABSTRAKPola pertumbuhan ikan kurisi termasuk allometrik negatip. Faktor kondisi kian besar dengan semakin panjang ukuran ikan Ikan kurisi termasuk kedalam kelompok karnivor, dengan makanan utamanya udang. Ikan betina mengkonsumsi terutama udang dan squilla, sedangkan ikan jantan mengkonsumsi udang, kepiting, dan ikan. Tidak ada perubahan jenis maupun IP makanan ikan kurisi berdasarkan waktu. Semakin panjang ukurannya, ikan kurisi semakin mengkonsumsi ikan sebagai makanannya.

Abstract

A study on habitat of Telmatherina sarasinorum was conducted in Lake Matano. An underwater observation on the fish habitat was performed to allow description on habitat while investigating its reproductive behaviour. There were two types of spawning habitat on the fish observed. The first was shallow beach with flat contour and bottom covered by cobble and little sand in between which was located in littoral area with trees on the lake sides. The second was deeper water with steeper bottom which has hanging down roots and fallen down stems and twigs of any trees covered by alga. In the two habitats the fish prefers shading places provided by any trees existing on the lake sides as spawning sites. The fish was not observed spawn in places covered by dense cobbles and open waters exposed directly to sunlight. Such a habitat specialist becomes important factor needed to be taken into account in the attempts to conserve the fish and its habitat in Lake Matano. Maintaining the existence of spawning habitat through protecting the presence of terrestrial vegetation surrounding the lake is important key for conservation of the fish and its habitat. AbstrakPenelitian tentang habitat Telmatherina sarasinorum dilakukan di Danau Matano. Pengamatan bawah air pada habitat ikan ini dilakukan untuk membuat gambaran mengenai habitat sambil meneliti tingkah laku reproduksinya. Ada dua tipe habitat pemijahan ikan yang diamati. Pertama adalah pantai dangkal dengan kontur datar dan dasar ditutupi oleh kerikil dan sedikit pasir diantaranya yang terletak di daerah litoral dengan pohon-pohon di pinggiran danau. Kedua adalah perairan dalam dengan dasar lebih curam yang mempunyai akar-akar menggantung serta batang dan ranting pohon tumbang yang diselimuti oleh alga. Pada kedua tipe habitat tersebut ikan menyukai tempat-tempat teduh yang mendapat bayang-bayang dari pohon yang ada di pinggiran danau sebagai tempat pemijahan. Ikan diamati tidak memijah di tempat-tempat yang ditutupi oleh kerikil yang padat dan perairan terbuka yang terpapar langsung oleh cahaya matahari. Habitat khusus demikian merupakan faktor penting yang perlu dipertimbangkan dalam usaha konservasi ikan dan habitatnya di Danau Matano. Pemeliharaan habitat pemijahan melalui perlindungan keberadaan vegetasi terestrial di sekeliling danau adalah kunci penting untuk konservasi ikan dan habitatnya.

Abstract

The research was conducted in Labuan bay of Banten Province from Avril - June 1999. The numbers offish collected were 747 (539 male and 208 female). The lengths ot male were 49- 145 m with 1.69-51.36 grams in weight, while the female had ranged 49- 161 mm in length and 1.84 - 57.88 gram in weight. The length of the male was primarily in size 73 - 84 mm, the female in 121 - 132 mm. Based on length weight relationship the fish was isometric. Condition factor of the male ranged 0.447 - 2.752, and 0.589 - 2.285 of the female The stomach dominated by undetermined materials. The fish food was dominated by Baccilariophyceae (15 genera the most was Synedra). The secondary group were Pleurosigma, Nitssliia, and ThaUasiotrix. Other foods were Desmidiaceae, Chlorophyceae, Dynophyceae. Copepoda, Ciliata and Sarcodina. Maturity stage of the male ranged between I - IV (dominated by stage I). Maturity stage of the female were ranged between I - V and dominated by stage IV. The gonado somatic index of male ranged between 0.45 - 2.13, while of female between 0.35 - 2.45.ABSTRAKPenelitian dilaksanakan di Teluk Labuan, Banten dari bulan April - Juni 1999. jumlah ikan yang dikoleksi 747 ekor (539 jantan dan 2008 betina). Ukuran panjang ikan antara 49 - 145 mm, dengan berat antara 1,69 - 51, 6 gram. Ikan betina berkisar antara 49-161 mm dan berat 1,84 - 57,88 gram. Ikan jantan terutama banyak pada ukuran 73 - 84 mm. betina pada 121 - 132 mm. Berdasarkan huhungan panjang berat pertumbuhan ikan bersifat isometnk. Faktor kondisi jantan 0,497 - 2,752; betina 0,589 - 2,285. Isi perut didominasi oleh materi yang tidak teridentifikasi. Makanan didominasi oleh Baccilariophyceae (15 genera tterutama Synedra), yang berikutnya Pleurosigma, Nitschia, dan ThaUasiotrix. Yang Iain adalah Desmidiaceae, Chlorophyceae, Dynophyceae, Copepoda, Ciliata, dan Sarcodina. Tingkat kematangan gonad jantan berkisar I - IV (didominasi oleh stadia I). Tingkat kematangan gonad betina berkisar antara I — V yang didominasi oleh stadia IV, Indeks kematangan gonad pada jantan berkisar 0,45 - 2,13; pada betina antara.0,35 - 2,45.

Abstract

The study was conducted in Gunung Halimun National Park (GHNP) at water catchmen area of Cibareno River, starting from the national park to southward in May-June 2002. The objective of the study is to reveal fish diversity and it’s succession from the lower part until upstream area and reveal their characteristics as a base for their management and conservation. Beside the fish collection some water quality parameters were measured. Twenty nine fish species were collected consisting of primary marine, secondary, diadromous, and primary freshwater species. The uniqueness of the fish composition, some biological characteristics, and their conservation aspects are discussed in this paper. AbstrakStudi dilakukan di Taman Nasional Gunung Halimun (TNGH) pada daerah aliran Sungai Cibareno, mulai dari daerah taman nasional tersebut ke arah selatan pada bulan Mei-Juni 2002. Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui keanekaragaman ikan dan suksesinya dari bagian bawah sampai daerah hulu sungai, dan mengetahui ciri-ciri (sifat) ikan-ikan tersebut sebagai dasar pengelolaan dan pelestariannya. Selain koleksi ikan, dilakukan juga pengukuran beberapa parameter kualitas air. Selama penelitian telah tertangkap sebanyak 29 jenis ikan terdiri dari ikan laut utama, ikan diadromous, ikan air tawar sekunder dan ikan air tawar utama. Keunikan komposisi jenis yang ada, sifat-sifat biologi serta aspek-aspek konservasinya didiskusikan dalam paper ini.

Abstract

Study on the spawning aspects of Thynnichthys thynnoides in the floodplain of Kampar Kiri River was conducted from June 2006 to December 2006, using experimental gillnet and trap. Total samples were 852 individuals, comprised 479 individuals from Mentulik (294 males and 185 females) and 373 individuals from Simalinyang (197 males and 176 females). The range of total length was between 94-198 mm for fishes caught from Mentulik and 104-227 mm from Simalinyang. Sex ratio was counted for fishes in QSIIV. Sex ratio is balanced for fish in Mentulik and unbalanced for fish in Simalinyang. The first size of maturity for male in Mentulik and in Simalinyang were 105 and 118 mm; while for female ones were 109 and 108 mm. Presumably, the spawning season is on September-December with the peak spawning in October. Fecundity ranged 781-27135 eggs for fish from Mentulik and 797-35804 eggs from Simalinyang. The Fish is indieaied to be a total spawner.

Abstract

The research was conducted in Mayangan coastal, Pamanukan, West Java from June-November 2003. The collected fish are 323 females and 195 males. The fish is carnivorous, euryphagic and bottom feeder. The primary food is crustacean and fishes, the additional is polychaetas, gastropods, pelecypods and sipunculidea. The food quality and quantity are relatively the same between the females and males. The inter class size niche breadth and the sexual food overlap shown the food competition between them happened. But based on the value of condition factor which is relatively stable. The food competition is little, because maybe the food resoueces is enough.

Abstract

The study was aimed to describe the spawning season of arfak rainbowfish (Melanotaenia arfakensis) in Nimbai and Aimasi streams, both are located in Prafi river system. Sampling was conducted from June to December 2007 and carried out monthly in four different habitat types using hand net. A total of 752 individual specimens were collected and consisted of five developmental stages, namely egg, larvae, juvenile, young and adult. There was no different proportion in both sexes, either habitat type or time. This species has relatively low fecund, producing approximately 23-1,351 eggs with relatively large diameter (0.5-1.3 mm). Large egg diameter was distributed in posterior of ovaries, with 2-3 modes, and presence of atretic eggs, and was indicated as multiple spawner fish. However, based on gonado somatic index, condition factor, presence of eggs and larva in limited period showed that there were increased reproductive activities in both locations from June to September, with low water flow condition. Concentration of reproduction activity during dry season to ensure that larva was produced relatively stable and in benign physical condition. In order to maintain the population of this species, both of these streams should be reserved as their natural habitats, thereby its life cycles could go on.
