Abstract

Selective leaching the lead from anode slime from PT. Smelting (PTS) was investigated. The presence of large amount of lead in electrometallurgical anode slime courses of extraction of precious metals (Au, Ag) and other valuable metals (Bi, Se, Te, Pt and Pd) from the slime is more difficult. A process for taking off lead content in anode slime was subjecting the latter to first and second-stage leaching in a medium of an ammonium acetate solution at temperature not exceeding 80°C. Whereby lead dissolution is maximized and other metals are minimized. The effects of various parameters such as solvent concentration, leaching time, temperature, and solid/liquid ratio on the percent extraction of lead were studied. The highest recovery of lead is attained 94.9% Pb at the leaching temperature of 70°C, solvent concentration of 8 M and percent solid 20% after 120 minutes of leaching time. The leaching kinetics of lead sulfate in an ammonium acetate solution followed the ash diffusion control model and this further confirms that the activation energy of leaching is found to be 4.8 kcal/mol, to show that rate reaction can increased by mixing.

Abstract

Kinetics model was developed for aluminum dissolution of West Kalimantan bauxite based on shrinking core model. A series of digestion tests was carried out to study aluminum dissolution from the ore sample with particles size distribution of 100% passing 60 mesh in 129 gpL of NaOH. The digestion tests were conducted at 140; 150 and 160°C under stirring speed of 500 rpm. The experimental result shows that after a certain period of diges- tion time, thus aluminum dissolution was fluctuated due to the formation of DSP as a result of the reaction of sodium aluminate solution with reactive silica in the ore. Aluminum dissolution data were analyzed and treated with Matlab software to predict time required for complete dissolution (t). By using the obtained t, hence fittings experimental data using 3 different rate-determining steps of kinetics models (i.e. interface reaction, film diffusion and diffusion through solid product layer) and dummy data were performed. Prediction of the rate-determining step of aluminum dissolution was then made by evaluating the value of square correlation coefficient (R2) from the regression equation of the models and then obtained the activation energy. The kinetics study which considers aluminum precipitation during digestion reveals that alumina dissolution mechanism is altered from interface chemical reaction with energy activation (Ea) of 29.57 kcal/mole to difussion through reaction product (ash) layer (Ea=2.77 kcal/mole).

Abstract

Abstract:. Copper deposits have been obtained by the electrolysis method using copper sulfate and sulfuric acid. The effect of copper concentration and current density on the surface morphology of copper deposits and current efficiency have been studied. The variation of copper concentration is 0.04 M and 0.8 M and the variation of current density is 2-8 A/dm2. The copper deposits will be photographed macro, weighed and characterized by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) to determine the surface morphology of deposits and Energy-Dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) to determine the chemical composition of deposits. The surface morphology of copper deposits in the form of compact and without nodules was reached at copper concentration is 0.8 M and the current density is 2 A/dm2 with the average of current efficiency is 96%.Keyword: Electrodeposition, copper, morphology, compact, current efficiency Abstrak: Endapan tembaga telah dihasilkan dengan metode elektrolisis menggunakan bahan tembaga sulfat dan asam sulfat. Penelitian ini mempelajari pengaruh konsentrasi tembaga dan rapat arus terhadap morfologi permukaan endapan tembaga dan efisiensi arus. Variasi konsentrasi tembaga adalah 0,04 M dan 0,8 M sedangkan variasi rapat arus adalah 2-8 A/dm2. Endapan tembaga yang dihasilkan akan difoto makro, ditimbang berat lapisannya dan diuji karakteristiknya dengan Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) untuk mengetahui detail morfologi permukaan endapan dan Energy-Dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) untuk mengetahui komposisi kimia endapan. Morfologi permukaan endapan tembaga berbentuk compact dan tanpa nodul tercapai pada kondisi konsentrasi Cu 0,8 M dan rapat arus 2 A/dm2 dengan efisiensi arus mencapai rata-rata 96%.Kata Kunci: Elektrodeposisi, tembaga, morfologi, compact, efisiensi arus
