Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aimed at describing the students’ metacognitive awareness in Chemistry learning, at finding out the correlation of metacognitive awareness and learning outcomes, and at finding out the correlation of indicators of metacognitive awareness and learning outcomes in Chemistry subject of grade XI SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Ketapang. The subjects of this study were 32 science class students. The methodwas descriptive correlational method. The instrument was a metacognitions questionnaire (MCQ) developed by Schraw and Dennison (1994), and modified by the writer. The results showed that the students metacognitive awareness in Chemistry was bigger than other category (43,75%). There was a positive correlation of students’ metacognitive awareness and learning outcomes by 0.933 coefficient value. The result of correlation of indicators of metacognitive awareness and students learning outcomes indicated that the monitoring comprehension indicators contributed major influence to students’ learning outcomes by 0.894 coefficient of determination value. In conclusion, there’s significant correlation of students’ metacognitive awareness and learning outcomes by 0.933 ofcorrelation coefficient value. In addition, the dominance of students’ metacognitive awareness isat a developing stage(62,5%), and the most influential indicator is monitoring comprehension indicator (0,894).Keywords : metacognitive awareness, learning outcomes

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe learning process centered on teachers thus leading students cannot think by themselves and build own knowledge so that students easily forget any lesson taught that resulted in poor study results. The learning process and environment which involves students participate actively is required. Therefore, this study examined the differences in the results of learning and memory of students taught with and without media concept maps in cooperative learning model NHT on the material salt hydrolysis. This study included a quasi-experimental design with Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The population in the study were all students of Mathematics XI consist of four classes with the number of students to 160 people. Samples were taken using purposive sampling with class XI MIPA1 as an experimental class and class XI MIPA2 as controls. Collecting data using measurement techniques, direct observation, and direct communication, while the data collection tool is a test description, the observation sheet and interview guidelines. Based on test data analysis using non-parametric Mann-Whitney U showed there were differences in the results of student learning and memory. Effect size obtained for the results of student learning and memory was 0.44 and 0.85 including in the criteria for medium and high, which affact to 17.00% towards learning outcomes of students and 30.23% of the students memory.Keywords: memory, learning outcomes, salt hydrolysis, media concept maps, cooperative learning model NHT

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aimed to determine the effect of booklet-based on PQ4R learning method. Using quasi experimental method, as well as nonequivalent control group design, this study employed students of grade X as the samples (Grade XA as the control group and grade XB as the experiment group). They were selected by using purposive sampling technique. The data collection tools used were essay and interview. While the data collection technique employed were measurement and direct communication. The study revealed that the average posttest score of the experiment group was 83,68, while the average posttest score of the experiment group was 83,68. Hence the experiment group was distributively considered normal. The homogeneity test indicated that both groups were homogenous (sig value 0,0522>0,05). However, the hypothetical test of t independent sample with α=0,05 discovered T account of 2,960>560. This value indicated that there was a significant difference of students’ learning achievement by using booklet based PQ4R method and lecturing method in chemical bonding class at grade X of SMA Negeri 1 Pengkadan. The result of effect size value was 0,81 which entailed the highest level of the effect (28,20%).Keywords: Booklet, Learning achievement, Chemical bonding, Method of Preview, Question,Read, Reflection, Recite and Review (PQ4R)

Abstract

ABSTRACT Chemistry is characterized by abstract concepts and theories which is rather difficult and requires formal thinking skill. This research was aimed to describe student’s formal thinking skill, student’s learning achievement, and the correlation between of them. Students of XI IPA were used as population of this research, while 29 students from XI IPA 1 were chosen as samples. The sampling used purposive sampling technichuques. Student’s formal thinking skill data were collected using Test of Logical Thinking (Tobin and Capie, 1981). The results showed that 72,41% students were in formal thinking stage, while 24,14%, and 3,45% students were in transitional stage and concrete stage, respectively. Student’s learning achievement data were analyzed from student’s semester test and it was found that student average score was 70,86. Correlation between student’s formal thinking and student’s learning achievment was analyzed using pearson product moment. It was concluded that ‘formal thinking ability’ affected student achievement by 0,527 in coefficient correlation, and 0,2774 in coefficient determination.Keywords: learning results, formal thinking skill, chemistry learning, Test of Logical Thinking

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research is motivated by the low student activity, which affects learning outcomes. The aims of this research were to describe and determine students activity on atomic structure lesson during chemistry teaching process. About 36 students of class X MIA 5 was choseen as samples in this research using purposive sampling method. The students activity data were collected through observations, questionnaires and interviews, using validated instruments. The results showed that the highest aspect of student activity was emotional activity (76,85%), and then declined gradually to listening activity(74,65%), visual activity (67,36%), writing activity (61,46%), and oral activity (38,42%). Emotional activity showed the highest score since students were eager to study chemistry subject, especially atomic structure lesson mean while oral activity was the lowest activity since the students were not confident to ask questions and express opinions.Keywords: Students’ learning activity, atomic structure

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe proces of chemistry learning in SMAN 5 Pontianakstill used lectures method which was not allowed the students to be active in learning chemistry. Therefore this research aimed toinvestigates the difference of students. Learning achievement and the effect size of the used of cooperative learning type TAI with video to help students learn the electron configuration material. The method of this research was quasi experimental non equivalent control group design. The sample was chosen using saturated sampling. The technique of data collecting was essay test with validation value 1. The test showed that the reliability coefficient was 0,057 which scored as moderate and worth to be used as research instrument. The hypothesis testing showed that Zvalue = 2,824 which means that the alternative hypothesis Ha was accepted. The effect size results was 21,57%. Bases in the results above the used of cooperative learning type TAI with video was effective to increase students learning achievement of electron configuration material.Keywords: Outcomes Learning, Team Assisted Individualization (TAI) Video, ElectronConfiguration.
