Abstract

The supply of raw materials for the plywood industry is currently limited due to natural forest conditions that are no longer possible to meet. One of the efforts taken to meet the needs of raw materials is to find sources of raw materials derived from plantations, community forests or plantations such as Rubber and Sengon people are used as raw materials veneer core. Different types of raw material veneer core will produce different rendemen. This study aims to compare the yield of smallholder rubber wood and sengon in making veneer core in plywood industry PT. Ewan Superwood located in Riau Province and determine the factors that affect the yield.The population of this study is the rubber wood and sengon by taking samples of 60 stems consisting of 30 logs and 30 sengon random woods taken at random. The average value of veneer core yield derived from  rubber wood is 66.63%. The average value of veneer core obtained from sengon wood is 74.65%. Factors affecting the yield of veneer cores on rubber wood are the condition of raw materials, diameter, synthetic and wood defects caused by the former lead. While on sengon wood is influenced by the existence of fragile eggs.

Abstract

 The aims of this study were to identify the type, pattern of distribution and utilization of rattan that produce jernang by people in Bengayauan Village Rantau Langsat District Batang Gangsal Indragiri Hulu Regency Riau Province. The research method was conducted by survey on forest area covered by rattan producing jernang.The data taken include the type of rattan producer jernang, the number of clumps and individuals, the utilization by the community, the way of harvesting, harvesting facilities, local wisdom in the management of rattan producer jernang.  From research conducted in Zones Hamlet Bengayauan there are three (3) species of rattan producers jernang namely:Daemonorops draco, Daemonorops propinqua, Calamus oxleyanus, included into two clans (Daemonorops and Calamus). Found 83 clumps and 1099 individuals comprising D.draco clump and 1019 a total of 77 individuals, D. popinqua by 4 clump and 66 individuals and C.oxleyanus as much as 2 clump and 14 individuals. The density (Daemonorops draco) 84.916 individuals/ha (92.721%), (D.propinqua) 5, 5 individuals/ha (6.005%), (C.oxleyanus) 1.66 individuals/ha (1.274%). The pattern of spread of cane producer D.draco random deployment, deployment  D.propinqua be clustered, while for C. oxleyanus spread uniformly. In the utilization of rattan producer jernang, indigenous peoples adhere to a local wisdom to preserve the plant. Utilization of rattan producer jernang by society, among others: Economic benefits, as a dye, ingredients of medicine, incense and ritual, and magical.

Abstract

Indonesia plays a role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions because it has a large forest capable of absorbing and storing carbon in considerable forest biomass. This study aims to estimate the carbon potentials found in the Alahan Panjang Nature Reserve of Nagari Koto Tinggi West Sumatera Province. The study was conducted on a plot of 20 m x 100 m as much as seven plot measurements with a sampling intensity of 0.056% of the total area of forest area of 2,500 ha. In each plot the measurement was taken diameter data ≥ 5 cm <30 cm and the diameter of trees ≥ 30 cm and the uptake of plants on plot size 1 m x 1 m. And rough litter and fine litter taking with a plot size of 0.5 m x 0.5 m. Subsequently carbon potentials were assigned to the Allometric equation: B = 0.118 x D 2.53. After calculating the carbon with the formula C = 50% of the total biomass. The absorbed CO2 is used CO2 = C x 3.67. From the research result, the amount of vegetation with diameter ≥ 30 cm is 98/1,4 ha = 70 vegetation/ha, with average diameter 45,67 cm. Vegetation with diameter ≥ 5 cm <30 cm totaled 163 vegetation/0,14 ha = 1,164/ha. Total carbon stock from tree stand component of 182 ton/ha, lower plant of 2,6 ton/ha, rough litter of 10,139 ton/ha, fine litter of 34,8 ton/ha. So total carbon in Alahan Panjang Block of Manggani Nature Reserve is 114,769 ton/ha. The amount of CO2 absorbed is 3 x 114,769 ton/ha = 421,204 ton/ha.
