Abstract

Rabbits are livestock that can be used as a source of animal protein and have the potential to have meet national meat needs. Further development is needed whit good quality feed and affordable prices. The study aimed to evaluate feed containing corn cobs which were fermented by MOIYL against carcasses in local rabbits. The study was conducted in Bandar Klippa Deli Serdang Village, North Sumatra Province, in January - March 2018. This study used 20 local rabbits with initial weights of 404.4 ± 9.14 grams and experimental designs using a completely randomized design (CDR), which consisted from 4 treatments and five replications. The treatment consisted of P0 = unfermented ration, P1 = 10%, P2 = 20%, and P3 = 30%. The variables measured were cut weight, carcass weight, and carcass percentage. The results showed that corn cobs fermentation with probiotics MOIYL had a significant effect (P <0.01) and not significant (P> 0.05), increasing corn cobs fermented by MOIYL to a level of 30% increasing slaughter weight and carcass weight, but does not increase the percentage of carcass.

Abstract

Abstract. The purpose of this research was to analyze the marketing system and marketing channel of chicken eggs and to analyze marketing efficiency based on marketing margin, price share and profit ratio of chicken egg cost in Pematangsiantar Municipality of Simalungun District. This research was conducted for two months, from July to August 2017. The methods used in data collection were: sampling of breeders and other marketing institutions selected by snowballing sampling technique and data collection methods was done by interviewing techniques using questionnaire. Data analysis included: marketing costs, marketing margin,farmer share and profit cost ratio of each marketing channel. The results of this study indicated that there were four marketing channels. The marketing margin on the Channel II showed the smallest cost margin and the largest profit margin so that it showed the largest cost-benefit ratio. The largest farmer share was obtained on the Channel IV but this channel  used only the retailers as an intermediate channel (one level) and relatively few exchanged eggs. So it was concluded that the Channel II was the most efficient channel becauseof the smallest cost and that the  profits were spread evenly among all the marketing institutions that play a role. The need for chicken eggs in Pematangsiantar Municipality was supplied from outside the city (63.33%) and filled by breeders from within the city(36.66%). Abstract

Gambir has the potential as an antibacterial which is traditionally used as a drug for diarrhea. This study examines the effectiveness of gambir on performance which includes feed consumption, body weight gain, feed conversion and income over feed cost (IOFC) in broiler chickens infected with E. coli. It was held in November - December 2017 at the Laboratory of Biology, Animal Husbandry Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture University of Sumatera Utara, using a completely randomized design (CRD) with 6 treatments and 3 replications. The treatment consisted of P0A = without infection and without treatment, P0B = infection with E. coli and P1, P2, P3, respectively E. coli infection + Gambir solution 2%, 4%, 6% and P4 = E. coli + infection Tetracycline antibiotics. The results showed that the administration of gambir solution at a dose of 2% - 6% was significantly (P<0.05) effective in  improving the performances of broiler chickens infected with E.coli and able to compensate for the use of commercial antibiotics in the form of tetracycline. The highest IOFC is in the 4% gambir solution.Keywords: gambir, escherichia coli, broiler performance.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the characteristics of farmers, agents and retailers ofkampung chicken marketing, and kampung chicken marketing channels, marketing margins,farmer share, profit ratio, and cost of kampung chicken, as well as analysed the marketingefficiency of kampung chicken in Binjai City. This research was conducted in June 2018 -August 2018. The method used in data collection by using the Jenuh sampling (sensus), whilethe sample of breeders and other marketing institutions with search method. Data collection wascarried out using interview questionnaire techniques.Data analysis included marketing costs, marketing margins, farmer share and cost benefit ratioof each marketing channel. The results of this study indicate that there are two marketingchannels. The marketing margin on channel II shows margin Rp. 15.157,-. the farmer’s inchannel I 76.19% and ratio of profit Rp. 2.4 per kg on channel II. The marketing channel forkampung chicken in the Traditional Market of Binjai City is efficient.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify factors that affect the demand for chicken eggs and to find out the correlation of factors that affect consumer behavior in purchasing chicken eggs in Tebing Tinggi City. The population is 158,902 people, the production of chicken eggs is 360,105 eggs and the population percentage of Tebing Tinggi city with chicken eggs production per year is 11,3%. The research used primary data obtained from questionnaires or interviews. The research method was multiple linear regression methods, spearman rank correlation and contingency correlation. The results showed that the price of chicken eggs and the income had real effect, while the number of consumer dependents and the price of tempeh did not have real effect to the demand for chicken eggs in the area of research. The result of spearman rank correlation and the contingency correlation showed that there was a real correlation between the income with a consumer behavior in purchasing chicken eggs, while the age, employment, and number of consumer dependents, did not show real correlation with consumer behavior in purchasing chicken eggs.

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the ability of cassapro to substitute corn in feed onkampung chicken carcass. Experimental design used was completely randomized design (CRD) with5 treatments and 4 replications. Each treatment consists of cassapro P0 (0%) P1(10%) P2(20%)P3(30%) P4(40%). 100 kampung chicken was used this research.The results showed that there were no signifiant effect on cut weight, carcass weight and percentageof carcass due to the administration of cassapro. However, there was a tendency that feed rations P2(40% corn and 20% cassapro) showed good result.

Abstract

Abstract

The study aims to evaluated thedetermine the effect of gave fermented corncob by probiotic MOIYL to performance of local rabbit. Research conducted at DesaBandar Klippa Deli Serdang and Agriculture Faculty of North Sumatera University, inJanuary – March 2018. The study used design experiment by completely randomizeddesign (CDR), which consists of 4 treatments and five replications. The treatmentconsisted of ration P0= unfermented ,P1 (10% corn cob fermented and 20%unfermented), P2 (20% corn cob fermented and 10% unfermented), and P3 (30% corncob fermented). Variable measured were feed consumption, daily body weight gain,feed conversion ratio and income over feed cost.The results showed that fermented ofcorn cob with probiotics MOIYL provide a significant effect (P<0,05) towards bodyweight gain, consumption and Income Over Feed Cost and does not have an effect (P>0.05) on the value of conversion. The conclusion from the results of this study is theprovision of fermented corn cobs using MOIYL can increase body weight gain,consumption and Income Over Feed Cost, and tend to reduce the value of feedconversion.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of complete corn waste based silagefeed on the percentage of non carcasses in local sheep. The study was conducted at theLaboratory of Animal Biology at the University of North Sumatra in May - August2018. The design used was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatmentsand 3 replications using sheep with an average initial weight of 11.2 ± 0.4 kg. Thetreatment consisted of four levels of complete silage feed based on corn waste P1(20%), P2 (40%), P3 (60%), and P4 (80%).The parameters observed were: weight,head, foot, skin, tail, trachea and lungs, liver, heart, blood, and digestive tract.Theresults showed that complete feed based corn waste silage did not have a significanteffect (P> 0.05) on the percentage of non-carcass weight such as skin, tail, trachea andlungs, blood and digestive tract, but gave a non-significant effect on the percentage noncarcass weights such as head, feet, heart and liver. The conclusion of complete feedsilage based on corn waste can have a significant influence on the internal non carcass(liver and heart) and external (head and foot) parts of male local sheep. And it gives anunrealistic influence on the non-internal carcass parts (trachea and lungs, blood anddigestion) and the external (skin and tail) of male local sheep.

Abstract

Cocoa pod is one of the cocoa processing wastes which can be used as animal feed.The study aims to find the use of cocoa pod which fermented by bioactivator (MOIYL) in feedon performance and IOFC of male local sheep. The research was conducted at Pak Didit's farmJl. Bunga Rinte, Simpang Selayang, Medan, in October - December 2018 using completelyrandomized design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 4 replications. The experiment used 20 ofmale local sheep weaning with initial body weight of 12.65 ± 1 kg. The treatment such as P0(80% field grass + 20% concentrate), P1 (60% field grass + 20% fermented cocoa pod + 20%concentrate), P2 (40% field grass + 40% fermented cocoa pod + 20% concentrate), P3 (20%field grass + 60% fermented cocoa pod + 20% concentrate), P4 (80% fermented cocoa pod +concentrate 20%). The observed of are feeds consumption, average daily gain, feed conversionratio (FCR), and income over feed cost (IOFC).The results of this research indicated that utilization of fermented cocoa pod in feed improvedthe performance of male local sheep with the average consumption of sheep feed (g/head/day):421.62; 422.60; 524.43; 452.83 and 368.56, average daily gain (g/head/day): 59.95; 60.75;84.19; 67.76 and 40.57, and ration conversion: 7.06; 7.17; 6.43; 6.68 and 9.11 and averageIncome Over Feed Cost (IOFC):141.123,8; 142.837,9; 201.301,0; 159.568,4 and 89.273,7. Theconclusion of this study is that the use of cacao pods fermented with 5% MOIYL in ration ofmale local weaning can be given to the level of 40%.
