Abstract

Biomordan merupakan mordan alam yang berfungsi untuk meningkatkan afinitas zat warna terhadap serat dan membangkitkan warna dalam proses pencelupan. Pemanfaatan gambir sebagai biomordan adalah salah satu terobosan baru dalam pemanfaatan komoditi potensi lokal yang dapat menghasilkan kain berwarna yang ramah lingkungan.  Penelitian dilakukan dengan membandingkan antara proses pewarnaan tanpa menggunakan mordan, pemakaian biomordan gambir pada konsentrasi 5, 10, dan 15%, serta pemakaian biomordan gambir yang dikombinasikan dengan mordan kimia CaO. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat komponen fenol pada ekstrak limbah kulit jengkol yang dapat memberikan warna pada kain viskos. Hasil pewarnaan meggunakan biomordan gambir dapat meningkatkan nilai intensitas warna. Sifat ketahanan luntur warna terhadap pencucian 40⁰C meningkat dari 3 (cukup) dan 4 (baik) menjadi 4-5 (baik sampai sangat baik) serta terhadap pengaruh cahaya dari 3-4 (cukup sampai baik) menjadi 4 (baik).AbstractThe biomordant is a natural mordant that functions to increase the affinity of dyes to the fiber and generate color in the dyeing process. The use of gambier as a biomordant is one of inovation in the utilization of local potential commodities that can produce eco-friendly coloring fabrics. The study was conducted by comparing the dyeing process without using mordant, the use of biomordant gambier at a concentration of 5, 10, and 15%, as well as the use of biomordant gambier was combined with CaO chemical mordant. The results showed that there were phenol components in the extract of dogfruit pod waste which could give color to the viscous fabric. The coloring results using gambier biomordant could increase the color intensity value. The color fastness characteristics of washing 40oC increased from 3 (fairly good) and 4 (good) to 4-5 (good to very good) and to the fastness of light raised from 3-4 (fairly good to good) to 4 (good).

Abstract

Combination of gambier liquid waste and secang wood (Caesalpinea sappan L.) can add color variations of fabric dyed with natural dyes. This research explained the effect of dyeing combination of gambir liquid waste and secang wood with different mordant method and type on the color shade and other characteristics of rayon and cotton dyed fabric. The mordant process was performed as much as 1 and 2 times using CaO, Al(2SO4)3, FeSO4 mordant and then compared without mordant treatment. The result of the dyed fabrics was evaluated the color shade, color strength (K/S), and fastness properties. The results showed that the color shade of rayon and cotton fabrics were varied. Rayon fibers had a greater affinity and absorption to the liquids waste of gambier and secang wood than in cellulose fibers. The mordant process could increase color strength (K/S) and color fastness to washing, acidic perspiration, rubbing, and light.ABSTRAKKombinasi limbah cair gambir dan kayu secang (Caesalpinea sappan L.) dapat menambah variasi warna kain yang dicelup dengan pewarna alami. Penelitian ini menjelaskan tentang efek pewarnaan kombinasi limbah cair gambir dan kayu secang dengan metoda dan  jenis mordan yang berbeda terhadap arah warna dan karakteristik lainnnya dari kain rayon dan katun hasil celupan. Proses mordan yang digunakan adalah 1 kali dan 2 kali mordan menggunakan CaO, Al(2SO4)3, FeSO4 yang dibandingkan dengan tanpa mordan. Kain hasil pewarnaan dievaluasi arah warna, intensitas warna (K/S), dan ketahanan luntur warna. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan arah warna kain rayon dan katun yang lebih bervariasi. Serat rayon memiliki afinitas dan penyerapan yang lebih besar terhadap zat warna limbah cair gambir dan kayu secang dibandingkan dengan serat selulosa.  Proses mordan dapat meningkatkan intensitas warna (K/S) dan ketahanan luntur warna terhadap pencucian, keringat asam, gosokan, dan sinar.

Abstract

Natural dye that was re-extracted from raw gambier is used to dye cotton fabrics. Aluminum sulfate, calcium oxide, and ferrous sulfate were used as mordants. Dyeing had used four different mordant methods which namely pre, simultaneous, post, and combined (pre and post) mordant. The chemical components in dry gambier extract were tested by using X Ray-Diffraction. The dyed cotton fabrics were evaluated by their color strength (K/S), color difference values (L*, a*, and b*), fastness to washing, rubbing and light. The results have shown that the main components of gambier were anhydrous catechins, catechins, and pyrocatechol. The use of post mordant and combined mordant methods with calcium oxide mordant had produced higher color strength (K/S) than others. The fastness to washing and rubbing values were in a range from good to excellent, while the average of the fastness to light was in a range from moderate to good. The amount of mordant metal that was bound to the fabric was between 15-40%.

Abstract

Kayu secang (Caesalpinia sappanLinn) mengandung komponen kromofor brazilein yang dapat memberikan warna merah apabila dilarutkan dalam air. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk melihat pengaruh proses ekstraksi maserasi dan perebusan dari kayu secang menggunakan pelarut air terhadap pewarnaan kain katun dan sutera. Hasil pewarnaan memberikan warna merah muda, merah keunguan, coklat dan coklat keabu-abuan. Pewarnaan kain sutera dengan ekstrak kayu secang yang menggunakan proses perebusan memberikan intensitas warna rata-rata yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan perlakuan lainnya, dengan ketahanan luntur warna yang cukup sampai sangat baik terhadap pencucian, keringat, sinar dan gosokan. abstractSappan wood (Caesalpinia sappan L.) contains a chromophore component of brazilein which can give red color when dissolved in water. The aim of the study was to see the effect of maceration and boiling extraction processes from sappan wood using water solvents on the dyeing of cotton and silk fabrics. The dyeing results gave pink, purplish red, brown and grayish brown. The dyeing of silk fabric with sappan wood extract using the boiling process provided a higher average color intensity compared to other treatments, with color fastness for washing, perspiration, lighting, and rubbing were sufficient to excellent.
