Abstract

Error analysis is integral part of mathematics learning. This qualitative research aims to describe the types and causes of student errors in solving combinatorics problem based on cognitive style. Subjects are high school students with field independent (FI) and field dependent (FD) cognitive style. Error analysis refers to Newman's error analysis. FI and FD students have same errors that are comprehension error at stage of understanding problem; processing skills error and encoding error at the stage of carrying out the plan. The causes of the errors are viewed from the cognitive factors, namely understanding students' concepts in solving problems. FI students have a deeper understanding and make careless error while the FD students have a lack of understanding of the concept which cause more error. The cause of errors in both students is also due to the accumulation of errors at stage of understanding problem.

Abstract

This research is triggered by one of mathematics learning objectives in Senior High School which is about understanding mathematics concept. Based on the result of the observation and the conducted interview with mathematics teachers, it is said that on learning Combinatorica, students are always less of ability to solve the problem, sometimes students’ answer only focus on what is being asked. The purpose of this reasearch is to describe students’ relational understanding in solving problems for  FI students based on the gender. The subjects of this research are Senior High School students having field independent cognitive style in Malang and have been choosen randomly. The subjects consist of two students, a boy and a girl. The instruments needed in this research are sheet of GEFT test, sheet of Combinatorica questions, and interview sheet. The result of this research states that FI girl student has ability on relational understanding as the same as the FI boy students has. But the process in solving problem made by the boy student is likely similar to the accurate process in solving problems.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan tentang jenis, dan penyebab kesalahan mahasiswa IKIP Budi Utomo Malang dalam menyelesaikan soal pembuktian Geometri Euclid serta pengaruh gender dalam menyelesaikan soal pembuktian tersebut. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini meliputi: (1) tes yang digunakan untuk mengetahui letak kesalahan mahasiswa dalam menyelesaiakan soal pembuktian Geometri Euclid serta adakah pengaruh gender di dalamnya; (2) wawancara yang digunakan untuk mendapatkan data factor penyebab kesalahan. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian Kesalahan menyelesaikan soal pembuktian Geometri Euclid yang dilakukan mahasiswa IKIP Budi Utomo Malang diantaranya adalah kesalahan konseptual pada soal no 1 sebayak 32 % sedangkan pada soal no 2 sebanyak 25. 17%, kesalahan prosedural pada soal no 1 sebayak 26,67% sedangkan pada soal no 2 sebanyak 30.83%,serta kesalahan teknis hanya terjadi pada saat mengerjakan soal no 1 yaitu sebayak 0.83%. Perbedaan gender pada saat menyelesaikan soal pembuktian Geometri Euclid perbedaannya tidak signifikan sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa tidak ada pengaruh gender dalam menyelesaikan soal pembuktian geometri Euclid. Banyak penyebab mahasiswa melakukan kesalahan dalam menyelesaikan soal-soal pembeuktian Geometri Euclid salah satunya adalah mahasiswa kesulitan dalam mencari alasan pada langkah-langkah pembuktian bangun geometri Kata kunci: Kesalahan, Pembuktian, Geometri Euclid, Gender

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe students’ relational understanding in solving problems for FI students. The subjects of this research are Senior High School students having field independent cognitive style in Malang and chosen randomly. The subjects consist of two students. Sheet of GEFT test, sheet of Combinatorial questions, and interview sheet were used in this study. The finding of the study showed that medium-academic achievement student had an ability on relational understanding as the same as the high-academic achievement student. Meanwhile, the process in solving problem made by the high-academic achievement student was likely similar to the accurate process in solving problems.

Abstract

One of the general sciences that has a relationship with al quran is mathematics. This study aims to examine social arithmetic in the calculation of faraidh knowledge in the Surah An-Nisa. The analysis is intended to know and understand contextually the Surah An-Nisa which is closely related to the faraidh contained therein. In this study using qualitative descriptive methods. This type of research is literature study. The subjects in this study are social arithmetic and faraidh, while the object in this research is the Al-Quran. The procedures carried out to collect data in this study include documentation documentation studies and focused discussions. The results of this study indicate that in Surah An-Nisa which consists of 176 ayah, it can be concluded that there are nine ayah in Surah An-Nisa which explains the science of faraidh. The ten ayah referred to are: Surah An-Nisa ayah: 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 33, and ayah 176. So, the remaining 167 ayah do not explain faraidh. As previously explained, there are nine ayah in the Surah An-nisa which explain faraidh, which is also social arithmetic.
