Abstract

ABSTRACT The purposes of this research were to increase vitality of white shrimp postlarvae during adaptation time to salinity decrease with the addition of papaya juice, and to assess the physical and chemical properties of water during their adaptation. The research was conducted in October 2011 at the Laboratory of Aquaculture, Aquaculture Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University.  The research used a completely randomized design in order to evaluate the effect of a various papaya juice concentration. The concentrations used were without papaya juice addition (P0), addition of papaya juice equivalent to 15 ppm K+ (P1), addition of papaya juice equivalent to 30 ppm K+ (P2), addition of papaya juice equivalent to 45 ppm K+ (P3), and addition of papaya juice equivalent to 60 ppm K+ (P4). Each treatment was repeated 3 times. The results of this current study showed that the addition of papaya juice equivalent to 15 ppm (P1) in media that used to decrease salinity was concluded as the best treatment, and gave the survival rate of 65.56%, glucose level of 156.67 mg.dL-1 and oxygen consumption rate of 4.807 mg O2.g-1.hour-1. The physicsal and chemical properties of media used for adaptation were still within a tolerable range for white shrimp postlarvae, except pH tent to be lower than the criteria.   Keywords : vitality, papaya, white shrimp, adaptation, salinity

Abstract

ABSTRACT The purposes of this research were to determine the value of LC50 96 hours and sub lethal toxicity test of latex liquid waste against erythrocytes, leukocytes  and  blood glucose levels of catfish. This research was held from April until June 2013 in Laboratory of Basic Fisheries, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya. The materials used for this research were latex liquid waste and bioassay used in this research are the catfish with length of 11 cm ± 0.1 cm with a weight of 10g ± 1g. Lethal toxicity test and sub lethal toxicity test used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with seven treatments and three replications. Treatment levels of lethal toxicity test were 0 mL.L-1(A), 16.8 mL.L-1 (B), 18.8 mL.L-1 (C), 21.0 mL.L-1 (D), 23.5 mL.L-1 (E), 26.3 mL.L-1 (F) and 29.4 mL.L-1(G). Treatment levels of sub lethal toxicity tests were 0% x LC50 96 hours (A), 0.5% x LC50 96 hours (B), 1% x LC50 96 hours (C), 6.25% x LC50 96 hours (D), 12.5% ​​x LC5096 hours (E), 25% x LC50 96 hours (F) and 50% x LC50 96 hours (G). The results of this research showed that the of LC50 96 hours concentration of latex liquid waste for catfish was 24.5 mL.L-1. Average value range of physical and chemical water properties during lethal toxicity tests were 28°C for temperature, pH between 6.6-6.9, dissolved oxygen between 1.98-2.96 mg.L-1 and ammonia between 0.056-0.402 mg.L-1. The results of sub lethal toxicity tests to control indicated that erythrocytes, leukocytes and blood glucose levels consecutive range 4.718-5.364 x 106 sel.mm-3, 388.97-447.87 x 103 sel.mm-3, 76.82-131.74 mg.dL-1. The results of sub lethal toxicity tests indicated that latex liquid waste concentrations affect the erythrocytes, leukocytes and blood glucose levels at concentrations above 6.25% x LC50 96 hours (1.5312 mL.L-1) with survival of catfish 96.67%. Average range value of physical and chemical water properties during sub lethal toxicity tests were 27.6 to 28°C for temperature, pH between 6.8 to 7.1, dissolved oxygen between 1.43 to 1.89 mg.L-1 and ammonia between 0.194 to 0.549 mg.L-1. Abstract

Treatment levels of sub lethal toxicity tests were 0% x LC50 96 hours (A), 0.5% x LC50 96 hours (B), 1% x LC50 96 hours (C), 6.25% x LC50 96 hours (D), 12.5% ​​x LC50 96 hours (E), 25% x LC50 96 hours (F) and 50% x LC50 96 hours (G). The result of this research showed that the of LC50 96 hours concentration of latex liquid waste for catfish is 24.5 mL.L-1. The results of sub lethal toxicity test indicated that latex liquid waste significantly affect the survival of catfish in the concentration of 25% x LC50 96  hours (F), while did not significantly affect on growth until concentration of 50% x LC50 96 hours  (G). Exposure time periode affects oxygen consumption rate was concentration from 0,5% x LC50 96 hours (B) until 50% x LC50 96 hours  (G) where the longer of exposure time would decrease the oxygen consumption of catfish.   Keywords: Latex Liquid Waste, Toxicity, Catfish

Abstract

ABSTRACT Industrial processing in Musi River can be impact to plankton community based on phytoplankton and zooplankton. This study was conducted during March until May 2015 to analyze of plankton community under different industrial wastewater pollution in Musi River. These experiment has been taken places in 5 station determined by purposive random sampling methods based under different industrial water pollution and tidal. The station were selected to collect plankton and water samples. The study revealed occurance of total 30 species among these, the highest overflowing found in station 4 for amount 22249,20 ind/L. The highest grade of diversity, and dominancy indices were found in station 3 for 2,14 and 0,77 and the higest grade of evenness indices were found in station 1 for 0,61. It was concluded from this study that the plankton population of Musi River is highly influenced by the discharge from different industrial effluents.Classify of water in station 1,3,and 5 was indicated C class in moderate polluted  and classify of water in station 2 and 4 was indicated in D class in high polluted.   Keyworsd : Plankton, Musi River, Pollution

Abstract

ABSTRACT This current research aimed to find out survival and growth of snakehead fish (Channa striata) reared in different pH media modification and to find out the optimum pH for rearing. Research was conducted in Aquaculture Laboratory, Aquaculture Program Study, Agriculture Faculty, Sriwijaya University from October toNovember2012. This researchcurrent used completely randomized design with  five treatments and three replications. The treatments were P0 (without treatments), P1 (decreased from pH 5.75 to 3.00), P2 (decreased from pH 5.75 to 4.00), P3 (decreased from pH 5.75 to 5.00) and  P4 (increased from pH 5.75 to 6.00).   The result of this  current research showed that the best  survival rate and growth based on regression analysis growth and weight total biomass end was found for P3 treatment (decreased from pH 5.75 to 5.00). Result of water physical and chemical measered were dissolved oxigen 4.32-4.77 mg.L-1, temperature 26-280C, and amonia 0.0030-0.1281 mg.L-1. Keywords : Channa striata, Ikan gabus, pH

Abstract

ABSTRACTAcidic waters was common problem in aquaculture in acidic soil area. Poor water quality in the acid sulfate soil pond has potential to decrease fish survival rate dan fish growth. Liming pond is one of method to neutralize (buffer) acid in fish pond. The aim of the research is to determine the best dosage of dolomite lime [CaMg(CO3)2] in acid sulfate soil pond to water quality, survival rate and growth of catfish. The research conducted on September-October 2016 in Laboratorium Kolam Percobaan, Program Studi Budidaya Perairan, Fakultas Pertanian, Universitas Sriwijaya, Indralaya. The research based on completely random design with four treatments and three replications. The treatments were different dosage of dolomite lime that are 6 (P1), 9 (P2), 12 (P3), and 15 (P4) ton/ha equivalent CaCO3. The research parameter were water quality, survival rate, and growth. The result showed that dosage 12 ton/ha was the best treatment that has highest survival rate 96.6 %, absolute growth of length 3.5 cm, weight 7.91g and feed efficiency 106,77%. Keywords: liming, dolomite, acid sulfate soil, seedling catfish

Abstract

The current research aimed to know the lethal and sub-lethal toxicities of industrial  palm oil liquid waste on catfish. The reseach was carried out from May to June 2013 at Basic Fishery Laboratory, Aquaculture Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya. This research used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 7 treatment levels and three replications. At lethal experiment, treatment levels tested were without the addition of liquid waste (A), 13.18 mL.L-1 (B), 13.89 mL.L-1 (C), 14.63 mL.L-1 (D), 15.4 mL.L-1 (E), 16.21 mL.L-1 (F),  and 17.06 mL.L-1 (G). For sub-lethal, treatment levels tested were without the addition of liquid waste (A), 0.5% x 96-h LC50 (B), 1% x 96-h LC50 (C), 6.25% x 96-h LC50 (D), 12.5% x 96-h LC50 (E), 25% x 96-h LC50 (F), and 50% x 96-h LC50 (G). The result of probit analysis shows 96-h LC50 value is 14.12 mL.L-1, positive linier relationship between mortality and concentration of palm oil liquid waste was found (r = 0.98 **). For the result of  sub lethal concentrations of  palm oil liquid waste ≤ 1% x 96-h LC50 had no effect (p> 0.01) while concentration of ≥ 6.25% x 96-h LC50 had very significant effect on the survival, growth and oxygen consumption rate of catfish. Abstract

ABSTRACT Snakehead fish is one of swamp fish species that has not been successfully cultivated intensively, therefore it is necessary to do a particular effort for rearing snakehead fish. Rearing of fry snakehead fish in the swamp water media by modifiying pH is expected to be able to support the survival rate and growth.The research uses CDR with 5 treatments and 3 replications. Modification of water pH will be done by adding HCl or NaOH. Increasing or decreasing pH will be conducted continuosly for 30 days. The result of this research showed that continues modification of rearing media pH is very significantly affected survival rate of fry snakehead fish with P3 (decreasing from pH 5.75 to pH 5.00) as the best treatment. This treatment gave survival rate of 67.90% and weight biomass of 9.8982 grams Keywords : Fry snakehead fish, pH, swamp water, survival rate and growth
