Abstract

This research aims to improve the motivation and student scientific writing skill (SCWS) by applying the integration of Simas eric and Blended learning models. This study is a classroom action research method conducted in one of the classes in the biology education program for the National student scientific week (PIMNAS) project of biology education Program, Universitas Tidar. The results of the study were analyzed descriptively. The results showed an increase in students’ motivation and learning outcomes. Students’ learning motivation on average increased by 10.59% and SCWS on average increased by 33.28%. The results of this study can be an alternative reference for lecturers or educators as an effort to improve student learning motivation so that the learning outcomes obtained can increase. Therefore, the integration of Simas eric with google classroom can enhance students’ motivation and SCWS Subjects at the biology students.

Abstract

The General Biology lecture on bilingual classes conducted by giving the assignment of preparing a summary of biology topics and then be presented and discussed. The analysis of the initial ability of students in scientific writing skills and oral communication skills were still low. The low level of both skills were reflected on the meaning and development aspects of the summary that were still in the beginner category (28%) and develop category (56%). Just as many (16%) of the students were in the category of competent and no students were included in the expert category. A similar picture is also seen in the organizational aspects of writing, language and structure of writing a summary. The observation of the oral communication skills of the students showed that the content and its delivery were still in the beginner category. This fact requires the effort to empower both these skills, since  that scientific writing skills and oral communication is an important skill of scientific literacy of students in 21st  century life. SRE (Sumarizing, Reviewing, and Evaluating) Writing Strategy is a learning strategy that could potentially improve both the skills. Effectiveness and optimization of the process of learning through the application of SRE empower the scientific writing skills and oral communication skills of students have learned through classroom action research-based lesson study. Abstract

This research aim is to show the effect of high temperature (30oC) on the expression of D. melanogaster traits and it’s use for learning resource in genetics lecture. This research was conducted in experimental design. Research result showed that high temperature could affect the fecundity and developmental time of D. melanogaster strains, including wildtype, white, and ebony. This result can be used as learning resource in genetics lecture, particularly in the basic competence 7.1: understanding regulation of gene expression in eukaryotes; and basic competence 13.1: understanding the application of some genetics theory through project research. Abstrrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menunjukkan pemanfaatan hasil kajian pengaruh faktor lingkungan berupa suhu tinggi (30oC) terhadap ekspresi sifat D. melanogaster sebagai sumber belajar perkuliahan genetika. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa suhu tinggi berpengaruh terhadap fekunditas serta waktu perkembangan D. melanogaster strain wild type, white, dan ebony. Temuan dari penelitian ini dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai sumber belajar yang memuat materi dan pedoman kegiatan praktikum pada perkuliahan Genetika di jenjang S1, khususnya yang berkaitan dengan KD. 7.1 yaitu memahami peristiwa regulasi ekspresi gen pada MH eukariot; dan KD. 13.1 yaitu memahami beberapa teori genetis melalui aplikasi praktik/peneliian proyek.

Abstract

Developments in all fields demand changes in learning, including at university level. Various skills for successful life in the future must be trained in students, including information literacy. This study aims to get an overview of students’ information literacy proficiency based on their experience during high school, the main source of information ever used, and the students’ perception of information literacy capacity. This study used a survey method, with an information literacy questionnaire distributed to 89 first-year students of the Biology Education Study Program, Universitas Tidar. The collected data were analyzed descriptively. Based on the results of the study it was found that students already had the experience of accessing information for completing assignments during high school. Information obtained by students is mainly obtained from Google and books. However, the use of Google as a search engine has not been directed towards finding quality sources. Students are still have low capacity in information literacy skills, especially those relating to the use of information effectively and ethically. The results of this study are expected to be the basis for establishing information literacy training programs in Biology Education Study Program Universitas Tidar, both integrated in the subjects and on their own.
