Abstract

The purposed of this study was to test the administration effects of katuk leaves to the size of scrotal circumference of male local kacang goat. This study used 15 male local kacang goats with the age of +1,5 year old. These animals were divided into three groups,5 animals each and acclimatized for 2 weeks. The control group (P0) was given distilated water, group P1 was administered with katuk leaves powder at the dose of 7.44 g/head/day and group P2 was administered with katuk leaves powder at the dose of 14.88 g/head/day. All treatments were given per oral twice a day (at 07.30 AM and 16.30 PM) for 35 days, consecutively. All animals were given various pastures and grasses as well as water ad libitum every day. Pre and post treatment, all animals from each group were measured for the scrotal circumference using vernier caliper. Data were analyzed using ANOVA. The result showed that the average of scrotal circumference on P0, P1, and P2 were 1.99+1.00, 2.75+0.01, and 2.76+0.01 cm. There was significant different (P<0.01) on the size of scrotal circumference between all groups. In conclusion, the administration of Sauropus androgyrus leaf powder increases the size of scrotal circumference of male local goat.Key words: scrotal circumference, willow leaf, male local goat

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui gambaran histopatologi usus halus babi hutan yang terinfeksi parasit  nematoda. Sampel penelitian menggunakan 3 ekor babi hutan yang terinfeksi parasit internal. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode uji natif untuk pemeriksaan feses. Perubahan patologi anatomis usus halus babi hutan diamati terlebih dahulu, sebelum organ tersebut dibuat preparat histopatologi. Hasil yang diperoleh dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan 2 ekor babi hutan positif pada pemeriksaan feses. Hasil pemeriksaan patologi anatomis usus halus babi hutan terlihat berwarna merah, ditemukan adanya nodule pada usus halus babi hutan yang positif terinfeksi parasit nematoda. Pemeriksaan histopatologi usus halus terlihat sebagian kelenjar intestinal mulai terbentuknya ruang subepitel, membrana basalis pada sebagian kelenjar tampak tidak utuh, infiltrasi sel radang, sebagian besar membran basalis kelenjar intestinal telah mengalami kerusakan, mengalami infiltrasi sel radang. Hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa, pada babi2 postif terinfeksi Strongyloides ransomi yang menyebabkan sebagian kelenjar intestinal mulai terbentuknya ruang subepitel dan membrana basalis sebagian tampak tidak utuh, sedangkan pada babi3 positif terinfeksi Ascaris suum yang hanya terjadi infiltrasi sel radang pada gambaran histopatologi usus halus.This study aims to determine the histopathological features of small intestine of wild boar infected with nematode parasites. The study sample used 3 wild boar infected with nematode parasites. This research was conducted using the native methods. Master for faecal examination. Changes in the anatomical pathology of wild boar small intestine were first observed, before the organ was made histopathological preparations. The results obtained were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that 2 wild pigs were positive for faecal examination. The results of the examination of the anatomical pathology of the wild boar small intestine appeared red, found nodules in the small intestine of wild boar that were positively infected with nematode parasites. Histopathological examination of the small intestine shows part of the intestinal gland starting from the formation of subepithelial space, membrana basalis in part of the gland does not appear intact, infiltration of inflammatory cells, most of the intestinal gland basement membrane has been damaged, infiltration of inflammatory cells. The results of this study concluded that, on positive B2 infected with ransomic Strongyloides which caused part of the intestinal gland to form the subepithelial space and the basement membrane was partially intact, whereas in B3 was positively infected with Ascaris suum which only infiltrated inflammation in the small intestine histopathology.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui tingkat konsentrasi timbal yang berpengaruh terhadap profil darah ikan nila. Penelitian ini menggunakan 12 ekor ikan nila dengan kriteria sehat, bobot badan 15 – 18 gram, umur ± 2 bulan, jenis kelamin jantan. Penelitian ini menggunakan 4 kelompok perlakuan, P0 sebagai kontrol ikan hanya diberi pakan pelet, P1 diberikan paparan timbal  6,26 mg/L  dan pakan pelet, P2 diberikan paparan timbal 12,53 mg/L  dan pakan pelet dan P3 diberikan paparan timbal 25,06 mg/L  dan pakan pelet,  masing-masing perlakuan terdiri dari 3 ekor ikan nila. Perlakuan dilakukan selama 30 hari dan Penghitungan profil darah ikan dilakukan pada hari ke 31. Rancangan yang digunakan adalah rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) pola searah. Pengambilan darah melalui vena caudalis dengan spuit 1 ml  sebanyak 0,5 ml, kemudian sampel darah ditempatkan pada tabung tube yang berisi EDTA. Darah diperiksa menggunakan hematology analyzer. Parameter yang diamati adalah jumlah leukosit total, jumlah eritrosit, kadar hemoglobin dan nilai hematokrit. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan rata-rata jumlah leukosit total P0 (148,20±64,54), P1 (139,03±44,81), P2 (101,67±4,46), dan P3 (111,90±0,85). Rata-rata jumlah eritrosit P0 (1,53±0,80), P1 (1,81±0,48), P2 (1,19±0,10), dan P3 (1,39±0,41). Rata-rata kadar hemoglobin P0 (6,13±3,10), P1 (8,53±1,46), P2 (5,00±0,36), dan P3 (5,93±2,02). Rata-rata nilai hematokrit P0 (23,90±15,37), P1 (24,47±14,38), P2 (21,60±2,94), dan P3 (23,70±9,49). Kesimpulan dari penelitian bahwa konsentrasi timbal 0 mg/L; 6,26 mg/L; 12,53 mg/L dan 25,06 mg/L yang dipaparkan selama 30 hari tidak mempengaruhi profil darah ikan nila.The aims of this research was to find out to determine the level of Lead (Pb) concentration that affect the blood profile of tilapia (Oreochromis nilloticus). This study used 12 tilapia with criteria healthy; body weight 15 – 18 gram; age ± 2 month; male. This study used 4 treatment groups, P0 as control, fish fed only pellets, P1 was given lead exposure 6,26 mg/L and pellet, P2 was given lead exposure 12,53 mg/L and pellet  and P3 was given lead exposure 25,06 mg/L and pellet. Each treatment consists of 3 tilapia. Treatment was done for 30 days and counted blood fish profile done on day 31. The design used was a complete randomized design (RAL) of unidirectional pattern. Blood taking through vena caudalis with 1 ml sryringe as much as 0,5 ml, then the blood sample is placed on a tube containing EDTA. Blood is examined using a hematology analyzer. Parameter observed were total leukocyte count, total erythrocytet, hemoglobin levels and hematocrit value. The results showed the average of total leukocyte count P0 (148,20±64,54), P1 (139,03±44,81), P2 (101,67±4,46), and P3 (111,90±0,85). Average of total erythrocytet P0 (1,53±0,80), P1 (1,81±0,48), P2 (1,19±0,10), and P3 (1,39±0,41). Average of hemoglobin levels P0 (6,13±3,10), P1 (8,53±1,46), P2 (5,00±0,36), and P3 (5,93±2,02). Average of hematocrit value P0 (23,90±15,37), P1 (24,47±14,38), P2 (21,60±2,94), and P3 (23,70±9,49).  The conclusion of research  showed that the concentration of lead 0 mg/L; 6,26 mg/L; 12,53 mg/L and 25,06 mg/L exposed  for 30 days  do not effect the blood profile of the tilapia.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengidentifikasi parasit dan mengetahui pengaruh tingkat prevalensi parasit yang ditemukan pada ikan lele (Clarias batrachus) di wilayah yang terkena dampak Tsunami dan wilayah yang tidak terkena dampak Tsunami. Sebanyak 80 ekor ikan lele yang diambil dari 4 lokasi di daerah Lhoknga, Aceh Besar yang terdiri dari 3 lokasi terkena dampak tsunami (Lambaro Seubun, Lamlhom dan Lampuuk) dan 1 desa tidak terkena dampak tsunami (Keudee Bieng) kemudian diperiksa di laboratorium Parasitologi Fakultas Kedokteran Hewan Universitas Syiah Kuala Banda Acehuntuk melihat keberadaan endoparasit. Pemeriksaan endoparasit dilakukan dengan cara pengamatan pada permukaan dalam dari tractus digestivus di bawah mikroskop. Dari hasil penelitian ditemukan empat jenis parasit yang menginfestasi ikan leleyaitu P. nagpurensis, Anisakis sp, Camallanus sp, Acanthostomum sp. Parasit Anisakis sp terdapat baik pada wilayah yang terkena Tsunami maupun yang tidak terkena Tsunami, Camallanus sp dan Acanthostomum sp hanya terdapat pada wilayah yang terkena dampak Tsunami sedangkan parasit P. Nagpurensis terdapat di wilayah yang tidak terkena dampak Tsunami. Tingkat prevalensi pada daerah yang terkena Tsunami yaitu 56,6% sedangkan tingkat prevalensi pada daerah yang tidak terkena dampak Tsunami lebih rendah, yaitu 45%. Dari hasil ini dapat dinyatakan bahwasannya parasit pada daerah yang terkena dampak Tsunami memiliki tingkat prevalensi yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan daerah yang tidak terkena dampak Tsunami.Kata kunci: endoparasit, ikan Lele (Clarias batrachus), lhoknga, tsunami.A study has been conducted to identify the parasite and the level of parasite prevalence rates in catfish (Clarias batrachus) living in the area that is affected or not by tsunami. A total of 80 catfishes taken from four locations in Lhoknga, Aceh Besar district and examined in the laboratory of parasitology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Syiah Kuala, Banda Aceh. The observation of endoparasite was focused on the inner surface of the digestive tractus. The study revealed that four types of parasites that infest catfish; (Pallisentis nagpurensis, Anisakis sp, Camallanus sp, and Acanthostomum sp). Parasite Anisakis sp found in areas affected the tsunami and it also found in catfish living in non tsunami affected area, Camallanus sp and Acanthostomum sp are found only in the region affected by the tsunami while P. Nagpurensis parasites found in the areas that not affected by the tsunami. Prevalence rates at region that affected by tsunami was 56,6% and region that not affect by tsunami was 45%. The result showed that regions that affected by tsunami have higher prevalence rates than the region not affected by tsunami. Abstract

ABSTRAK      Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui jumlah cemaran Escherichia coli pada daging ayam broiler di Pasar Rukoh, Banda Aceh. Sampel penelitian yang digunakan adalah 4 paha dan 4 punggung  daging ayam broiler. Pengambilan sampel dipilih secara acak pada empat pedagang Pasar Rukoh, Banda Aceh. Setiap pedagang diambil 2 sampel bagian daging ayam broiler sekitar punggung dan paha atas dan dimasukkan ke dalam plastik yang steril lalu masukkan ke dalam Cooler box. Metode pengujian yang dilakukan mengacu pada Bacteriological Analytic Manual dan Standar Nasional Indonesia (SNI) 01-2897-2008. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis secara deskriptif. Nilai  cemaran Escherichia coli terendah 2,6 x 102 cfu/gr dan nilai  tertinggi cemaran yaitu 5,2 x 102 cfu/gr. Semua sampel daging ayam telah tercemar Escherichia coli, yang memperlihatkan perubahan koloni berwarna metalik kehijauan pada media Eosin Methylen Blue Agar (EMBA). Dari penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan, bahwa jumlah cemaran Escherichia coli pada daging ayam broiler di Pasar Rukoh, Banda Aceh melebihi batas maksimum cemaran mikroba. Menurut SNI 01-7388-2009 bahwa batas maksimum cemaran mikroba (BMCM) Escherichia coli pada daging ayam segar adalah kurang dari 1 x 101 cfu/gr.Kata kunci: Esherichia coli, daging ayam broiler, Pasar Rukoh.                                              ABSTRACT      This study aims to determine the level of Escherichia coli contamination in chicken meat sold in Rukoh traditional market, Banda Aceh. The samples were four thighs and four back parts of chicken meat. Sampling was collected randomly in four stores There were 2 samples taken from each store. Testing methods refers to the Bacteriological Analytical Manual and SNI 01-2897-2008. The data then analyzed descriptively. Escherichia coli contamination at the lowest value is 2.6 x 102 cfu / g and the highest contamination is 5.2 x 102 cfu / g. All samples of chicken meat has been contaminated with Escherichia coli, these results of contamination marked by the metallic green colonies on Eosin Methylen Blue Agar (EMBA). Thus, the author can conclude that the number of Escherichia coli contamination in chicken meat sold in Rukoh traditional market, Banda Aceh exceeds the maximum limit of microbial contamination. According SNI 01-7388-2009 that the maximum limit of Escherichia coli contamination (BMCM) allowed on fresh chicken meat is less than 1 x 101cfu / g.Keywords: Esherichia coli, Chicken meat, Rukoh traditional market.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using ketamine-xylazin and propofol on heart rate and breathing in local male dogs (Canis familiaris). Six male dogs with average body weight ±2-3 kg were divided into 2 treatment groups, each group was subcutaneously injected with of atropine sulfate at dose of 0.04 mg/kg as premedication prior to anesthetic administration. The first group (K1) was intravenously injected with anesthetic combination of ketamine-xylazine at dose of 5.5 mg/kg and 1 mg/kg, respectively. The second group (K2) was given propofol at dose of 6.6 mg/kg intravenously. The heart rate and breathing were directly calculated using stethoscope and stopwatch with 10 minutes interval. Data were analyzed statistically using analysis of variance (Anova) with split-splot design and if there is a difference between the two groups followed by least significant difference test (LSD). The administration of ketamine-xylazin (K I) significantly (P<0.05) increase the respiratory frequency compared to propofol administration (K2). The interaction between time and precise observation of K1 and K2 on 30 minute observation (W3) showed significant differences (P<0.05). While on other time observations did not reveal any differences in the interaction between time and observation (P>0.05). It can be concluded that there is no difference effects of given ketamine-xylazin and propofol against heart rate on local male dogs. But there was difference effect of administration ketamine-xylazin and propofol on respiratory frequency on local male dogs.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to evaluate the effect of chayote (Sechium edule) leaves infusion on hemoglobin and hematocrit level of anemic rat (Rattus norvegicus). Twelve anemic hemorrhagic male rats strain Wistar with body weight ranging from 175-200 g were used as sample in this research. Rats were divided randomly into 3 treatment groups, each group consist of 4 rats. The control group (P0) was not given chayote leaves infusion. Group P1 and P2 were given chayote leaves infusion with the concentration of 25% and 50% respectively, with dose of 1 ml per 200 gram body weight. Rats were fed with standard commercial food (Turbo feed) and aquadest ad libitum. The rats were treated anemic by taking 20% blood from total blood volume prior to administration of chayote laeves infusion. Chayote leaves infusion was given for 10 days consecutively. Blood sampling was carried out on day 0, 5, and 10 via caudal vein. Data were analyzed using anlysis of variance (ANOVA) Split-Plot pattern. The result showed that chayote leaves infusion increase level of hemoglobin and hematocrit in experimental rats. In conclusion 25% concentration of chayote leaves infusion is more effective than 50% concentration.Key words: anemia, chayote leaves, hemoglobin, hematocrit

Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out total erythrocytes count and hematocrit value of aceh and bali cattle in Leumbah Seulawah, Aceh Besar. Ten aceh cattle (5 males and 5 females with the age of 2.5-3.0 years) and ten bali cattle (5 males and 5 females aged 2.5-3.0 years) from Leumbah Seulawah, Aceh Besar were used in this research. Blood samples approximately 3 cc were collected by venoject through jugular vein. Erythrocyte counts were performed using a hemocytometer and hematocrit value were performed by microhematocrit method. The average of erythrocyte counts of male and female aceh cattle were 7.75 ±1.86 and 7.34±0.73 (106/mm3) respectively, while male and female bali cattle were 5.49±0.88 and 4.89±0.53 (106/mm3) respectively. Hematocrit value of male and female aceh cattle were 32.8±3.70 dan 32.6±207% respectively, while male and female bali cattle were 27.4±3.00 and 25.8±1.30% respectively. In conclusion, erythrocytes count and hematocrit value of aceh cattle show significant difference (P<0.01) from bali cattle.Key words: erythrocytes, hematocrit, aceh cattle, bali cattle

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengevaluasi aktivitas antelmintik ekstrak etanol biji Veitchia merrillii terhadap nematoda intestinal, Ascaridia galli. Metode fitokimia dilakukan untuk menguji keberadaan jenis kimiawi di dalam ekstrak. Efek dari ekstrak tersebut ditentukan melalui in vitro berdasarkan hambatan pergerakan dan kematian cacing. Sebanyak empat ekor cacing masing diperlakukan triplikat dalam phosphate buffered saline, 25 mg/mL, dan 75 mg/mL larutan ekstrak V. merrillii, dan 15 mg/mL albendazole. Pergerakan cacing diamati pada interval 9, 18, 27, dan 36 jam. Kematian cacing ditentukan berdasarkan ada tidaknya pergerakan badan, bagian kepala, dan ekor cacing. Kami menemukan bahwa larutan ekstrak V. merrillii mengandung tanin, alkaloid, flavonoid, triterpenoid, saponin, tetapi tidak mengandung steroid. Berdasarkan percobaan in vitro, penggunaan konsentrasi 25 dan 75 mg/mL ekstrak V. merrillii menunjukkan efek antelmintik. Ekstrak V. merrillii tersebut hanya efektif pada konsentrasi 75 mg/mL. Kajian tersebut mengindikasikan bahwa antelmintik berbasis herbal untuk mengendalikan A. galli berpontesi dikembangkan.

Abstract

The aim of the study was to observe the histopathological changes of the entire egg cells in the uterine of Ascaridia galli worms treated with crude ethanolic extract of Veitchia merrillii nuts. Histopathological changes of the entire egg cells were observed to describe that the activity of extract V. merrillii nuts interfered the reproduction process could decrease the quantity and quality of A. galli eggs. The experiments consisted of 16 head A. galli female adult worms divided into four groups, contained four worms of each, and maintained in 0.9% phosphate buffered saline (PBS). First group, a negative control experiment consisted of A. galli in 0.9% PBS. Second group, concentration of 15 mg/mL albendazole was used as a positive control. Third group and fourth group, in vitro exposure of the worms to the crude ethanolic extract V. merrillii nuts at a concentration of 25 mg/mL and 75 mg/mL, respectively. The histopathological changes of egg cells in the uterine region of stained worms was evaluated by light microscopic examination at 40x magnification. The results showed that shrinkage and disintegration of the entire egg cells in the breakage of uterus. The results indicate that the possible use of the plant as a potential anthelmintic against A. galli, the intestinal nematode parasite of domestic fowl.
