Abstract

ABSTRACT  The aim of the research was to analyze survival rate, specific growth rate, albumin, and feed efficiency and physiological (blood glucose, cortisol, dan haemoglobin) responses of snake head fish juvenil that reared at aerated and unaerated of tidal land water have been conducted in the laboratory. Experiments using completely randomized design with aerated and unaerated as a treatment, and each treatment has twelve replications. The snakehead fish juvenil wich length 2.4±0.2 cm and weight of 0.21±0.05 g reared in the aquarium that are size 30×25×35 cm (water volume 25 L) with a stocking density 2 juvenile/L, for 40 days. The fishes were fed with commercial feed with protein content about 40%, feeding two times a day (morning and afternoon) were at satiation. Replacement of water done every two days about 10% of the total water volume in the aquarium. The results showed that unaerated median significantly affected to biometric and physiological response of juvenile of snake head fish. The media un-aerated gives the best results shown by the higher value of survival (92%), specific growth rate (6.73%/ day), feed efficiency (78.22%), protein retention (41.91%), energy retention (30.81%) value of albumin (6.60 g/100 mL) and the haemoglobin (5.58 g/dL), and have the lowest value of cortisol (21.49 ng/L) and blood glucose (43.36 mg/100 mL). Keywords: acid sulfate water, growth rate, aeration, Channa striata   ABSTRAK  Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis respons kelangsungan hidup, pertumbuhan spesifik, albumin, dan efisiensi pakan dan fisiologis (kortisol, glukosa darah, dan hemoglobin) juvenil ikan gabus yang dipelihara dengan dan tanpa aerasi pada media air rawa pasang surut. Penelitian menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap dengan aerasi dan tanpa aerasi sebagai perlakuan, dan masing-masing perlakuan memiliki 12 ulangan. Juvenil ikan gabus berukuran panjang 2,4±0,3 cm dan bobot 0,21±0,03 g dipelihara dalam akuarium 30×25×35 cm (volume 25 L) dengan padat tebar 2 ekor/L, selama 40 hari. Ikan diberi pakan berupa pakan komersial dengan kadar protein ±40%, pemberian pakan dua kali sehari (pagi dan sore) at satiation. Penggantian air dan penyiponan dilakukan dua hari sekali sebanyak 10% dari volume total dalam akuarium. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan tanpa aerasi berpengaruh nyata terhadap respons biometrik dan fisiologis juvenil ikan gabus. Media tanpa aerasi memberikan hasil yang lebih baik ditunjukkan oleh kelangsungan hidup (92%), laju pertumbuhan spesifik (6,73%/ hari), efisiensi pakan (78,22%), retensi protein (41,91%), retensi energi (30,81%), kadar albumin (6,60 g/100 mL), dan hemoglobin (5,85 g/dL) yang lebih tinggi, sedangkan kadar kortisol (219 ng/L) dan glukosa darah (43,36 mg/100 mL) yang terendah. Kata kunci: media sulfat masam, pertumbuhan, aerasi, Channa striata

Abstract

The purposes of this study were to determine oceanographic and water quality parameters and their suitability for white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei culture. The measurements were carried out on dry season in Semak Daun Island, Karya Island, and Panggang Island waters of Thousand Islands, with areas of 315.0, 12.0, and 102.8 ha, water depth average of 4.6 m (0.5-28.1 m), 14.6 m (0.5-26.7 m), and 5.3 m (0.8-13.6 m), mean current water velocity of  12.9, 12.7, and 13.5 cm/second, respectively.  In the study areas, we found a diurnal tidal pattern with high wave in January and July-August.  Based on temperature, salinity, and water density in Semak Daun Island waters, there seemingly occurred a turn over indicating a good water circulation, while in Panggang Island and Karya Island waters tended to have a stratification. Generaly, water qualities in the study areas were in the op-timum range for white shrimp culture, i.e., temperature of 29.6-30.8oC, turbidity of 0.10-1.05 NTU, transparency of 5.8-9.7 m, total suspended solid of <8 mg/L, total dissolved solid of 20-164 mg/L, pH of 6.89-7.22, salinity of 32.2-32.3, dissolved oxygen of 5.8-10.8 mg/L, ammonia of 0.068-0.145 mg/L, nitrate 1.247-2.589 mg/L, and phosphate  of 1.021-2.352 mg/L. Moreover, in Semak Daun Island wa-ters, we found the highest suitability for white shrimp culture due to its better water circulation.Keywords: mariculture, coral reef waters, strait, water current, turnover, stratification.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the physiological responses of Asian swamp eel, Monopterus albus during the fasting period at different salinity levels. Fasting period was three days at four levels of salinity, i.e., 0 g L -1 , 3 g L - 1 , 6 g L - 1 , and 9 g L - 1 . The eels were stocked at a density of 200 kg m - 3 . Physiological parameters studied were blood plasma cortisol which was measured by radioimmunoassay method, blood plasma glucose and liver glycogen which were measured by spectrophotometer, blood plasma sodium which was analyzed by Atomic Absorption Spect rophotometer, and osmolality which was measured using osmometer. The results showed that salinity affected the physiological status of the eels. Fasting the eels could increase the blood plasma cortisol levels, but in at higher salinity levels the hormone was lower. Blood plasma sodium levels of the eels increased in line with higher salinity. Fasting the eels at salinity of 0 and 3 g L - 1 was increasing the glucose levels significantly compared to the eel at a salinity of 6 and 9 g L - 1 . In contrary, the liv er glycogen levels were statistically lower in salinity of 0 and 3 g L - 1 compared to the eels at a salinity of 6 and 9 g L - 1 . Fasting the fish for three days at all salinity treatments did not change the condition factor of the eels. The eels were exhibite d the best physiological performance during the three - days fasting period at a salinity of 9 g L - 1 .AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk meng evaluasi respons fisiologis ikan belut Monopterus albus pada pemberokan dengan tingkat salinitas yang berbeda. Pemberokan dilakukan pada ikan belut yang berukuran panjang 26,64 ± 2,94 cm dan b o - bot 12,57±4,99 g , selama tiga hari dalam media air dengan perlakuan empat tingkat salinitas, yaitu 0 g L - 1 , 3 g L -1 , 6 g L - 1 , dan 9 g L - 1 . B iomassa belut adalah 1 kg dalam 5 L air atau pada densitas 200 kg m - 3 . Parameter fisiologis yang diu - kur meliputi kortisol plasma darah dengan metode radioimunoasai, glukosa plasma darah dan glikogen hati dengan spektrofotometer, natrium plasma darah diana lisis dengan Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer , dan osmolalitas de - ngan menggunakan osmometer. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa p emberokan dan salinitas mengakibatkan peru - bahan kondisi fisiologis ikan belut. Pemberokan mengakibatkan k adar kortisol meningkat , n amun peningkatan salinitas dapat menekan kadar hormon tersebut. Kadar natrium plasma darah ikan belut mengalami peningkatan sejalan dengan semakin tingginya salinitas. Kadar glukosa belut yang diberok pada salinitas 0 dan 3 g L - 1 secara statistik lebih tinggi dan berbeda sangat nyata di b andingkan dengan belut pada salinitas 6 dan 9 g L - 1 . Hal sebaliknya t erjadi pada kadar gli - kogen hati, yaitu secara statistik lebih rendah pada salinitas 0 dan 3 g L - 1 dibandingkan dengan belut pada salinitas 6 dan 9 g L - 1 . P emberokan selama tiga hari pada semua perlakuan salinitas t idak mengakibatkan perubahan nilai faktor kondisi belut . Ikan belut memberikan respons fisiologis yang paling baik pada pemberokan tiga hari dengan salinitas 9 g L - 1.
