Abstract

Research utilization of liquid smoke from oil palm empty fruit bunches of raw rubber has been made to utilize solid waste from industrial processing of oil palm empty fruit bunches of oil palm so that it becomes economically valuable products. This research has been done by pyrolysis of oil palm empty fruit bunches at a temperature of 400oC for 5, 6, 7 and 8 hours. The results show that the pyrolysis liquid smoke oil palm empty fruit bunches for 8 hours give a high concentration of phenol and acetic acid, respectively 5% and 0.454%. Liquid smoke that has been obtained is used as a coagulant in raw rubber plantation crops of the people residing in the village of Ambawang, Kubu Raya District, West Kalimantan. Results of treatment of liquid smoke on raw rubber  show that the rubber products that have been frozen and dried are superior in terms of color, smell and drying time compared with the treatment of formic acid and water battery which has been added so far on raw rubber by the local rubber farmers.

Abstract

Process optimization of Pontianak aloe vera powder (Aloe chinensis Beaker)  as raw material for hand body lotion have been conducted on laboratory scale with the aim of obtaining the optimum conditions of processing technologies through the addition of maltodextrin and Carboxy Methyl Cellulase. The optimum results achieved at the ratio of maltodextrin to the CMC by 90%: 10%. Characteristics of aloe vera powder produced showing yellowish white color, water content of 8:56%, 5:50 pH, total solid Aloe 25.5%, weight flour ratio and fresh aloe vera leaves 1.5: 100, aloin content of 164.40 ppm, 257.08 ppm malic acid content, 10.32 ppm vitamin E and 1.4 x 105 colonies/g total bacteria. Making hand body lotion of aloe vera powder optimization results show the characteristic white color with a fragrant aroma, acidity (pH) 7:07, 10.34 ppm of malic acid, 1.1 x 104 colony/g total bacteria, and quite stable while storage.

Abstract

Dextrin is a modified starch that widely used in food and pharmaceutical industries. One of the starch source that could be used for dextrin production is sweet potatoes that widely cultivated in Pontianak. The aims of this study is to produce dextrins enzymatically using different types of sweet potatoes that available in Pontianak. Dextrin production optimization performed on 0.1%, 0.2%, and 0.3% of alpha amylase concentrations and liquification at 95°C for 1, 1.5 and 2 hours. Three varieties of sweet potatoes used: white, yellow, and purple. The results showed that the highest dextrin production is at 0.3% concentration with 2 hours of liquification. The characteristics of the dextrose produced are: fairly soluble in water, dextrose content range 4.14%–4.41%, water content was 10.5% –11.0%, yield range 7%–12%, and 80 mesh filter pass between 91–95%. Dextrins production has met SNI 01-2593-1992 standard dextrin for the food industry.

Abstract

Bioethanol gel is a new form of liquid bioethanol that has been given a thickening agent. This type of bioethanol is believed could make its transportation and utilization safer. This study aimed to compare the carbopol and carboxymethyl cellulose as thickener agents and to characterize the bioethanol gel produced. In this research, carbopol and carboximethyl used for making bioethanol gel were1.5, 3, 4.5 and 6 g. Then flame color, length of flame and viscosity were tested. The best bioethanol gel produced obtained on the addition of carbopol 6 g. Its characteristics were clear white color, the flame color is blue reddish, length of flame per 5 g is 5 minutes 17 seconds, and viscosity 1,380,000 cP. The boiling water test result on 100 ml of water by using 15 g of bioethanol gel takes 16 minutes.

Abstract

Tabat barito (Ficus deltoidea, Jack) leaf is believed could be used to treat diabetes. But more scientific data are needed. The aim of this study is to investigate  antidiabetic activity of  Tabat Barito extract by glucose tolerance method. The treatment was given in three doses (50, 100, and 200 mg/kg BW) and two controls using aquoeus and glibenklamid.  Tabat barito extract was obtained by maceration and made into dry extract with addition of starch. The result showed that chemical compound of the ethanol extract were fenolic and saponin. The extract showed effects in lowering blood sugar levels with glucose tolerance methods at 30 to 60 minutes. Blood glucose levels of mice treated with the extract extract ranged between 132.60 to 258.00 mg/dL , glibenklamide ranged from 130.20 to 144.60 mg/dL, and aqua ranged between 227.60 to 260.20 mg/dL. The percentage decrease in blood sugar levels compared to controls is 32.54%.

Abstract

Coconut oil is healthy vegetable oil because it contains Medium Chain Fatty Acid (MCFA). The used of bleaching agent and excessive heating in coconut oil process will produce low quality oil (rancid). Therefore, it is necessary to processing that does not use chemicals and excessive heating such as fermentation using microbe and enzyme. The aim of this study was to find out the effect of bromelin enzyme concentration and Saccharomyces cereviceae fermentation to MCFA content in coconut oil. This research was done by adding the enzyme bromelain at 0, 50, 100, 200 and 400 ppm and S. cereviceae inoculated in coconut milk. The resulting oil is then tested the water content, acid number and fatty acid content. The result showed that fermentation with 200 ppm bromeline enzyme and S. cereviceae inoculation can produce the best quality coconut oil containing MCFA that meet the APCC standard.

Abstract

Most mosquito repellent lotions available on the market today contain the active ingredient diethyltoluamide (DEET) which is very harmful to the skin. Natural mosquito repellent research using various essential oils (geranium oil, lemon oil, citronella oil and lavender oil) as the active ingredient and the addition of aloe vera gel as a moisturizer has been done on a laboratory scale. The purpose of this study was to compare the protection ability of the mosquito repellent plants in Indonesia. The results showed that geranium oil, lemongrass oil, lavender oil and lemon oil could act as mosquito repellent. Best lotion formula all containing 15% essential oils have the effectiveness above 50% until the sixth hour were geranium oil, citronella oil and lavender oil while lemon oil only giving effectiveness above 50% until the second hour.

Abstract

The research of pregelatinized sweet potato starch as a binder in tablet formulations has beenconducted. Pregelatinized starch prepared by heating sweet potato starch suspension with a concentrationof 30% in water at temperature 60, 65 and 70 oC. Pregelatinized starch were evaluated its flow propertiesand compressibility. The results showed the flow properties and compressibility were still lack. The test oftablet formulations are uniformity of weight, hardness, friability and disintegration time. The resultcompared to the Pharmacopoeia then Anova test. The result test met the requirements to Pharmacopoeiawhile Anova test there was a difference in terms of hardness, friability and disintegration time. Tablet withpregelatinized starch cooked at 70oC has a different value of hardness and brittleness with the other tabletsi.e. 4.5 kg/cm2 and 0.031%, While tablet with Star RX 1500 as binder has a different value of disintegrationtime from others 6.42 minutes.

Abstract

Background : Stroke is a serious global health problem, strokes can be threatening and result in morbidity and mortality and increase the length of days of treatment that cause maintenance costs to increase, stroke prevalence increases every year, followed by increased post-stroke depression. Motivational interviewing (MI) is a patient-focused counseling technique designed to help individuals explore and overcome ambivalence in behavior.Purpose : This study aims to determine the effectiveness of counseling with a motivational interviewing approach to reducing depression in post-stroke depression patients in NTB Province Hospital.Method : Quasi Experiment Pre-test design Post-test control group design with a sample of 32 respondents selected by purposive sampling technique.Results: The results of bivariate analysis with paired t test there were significant differences in post-stroke depression in the control group and the intervention group with a value of 0.028, in the intervention group the average depression was 2.25 with a value of 0.000 < α (0.05).Conclusion: Counseling with a motivational interviewing approach is effective in decreasing depression in post stroke depression patients at NTB Hospital. Suggestions for the next researchers can research with different places with more samples and qualitative and quantitative methods (mixed methods) so that research results are more optimal.
