Abstract

The effect of fermentation duration at  improving  the quality of ammoniation rice straw with Bacillus sp.probiotic was conducted from July to August 2012. This work was arranged in Completely Randomized Design with four treatments and two replications. The treatments were fermented with 3% Bacillus sp for 0, 10, 20, and 30 days  imposed to rice straw with ammoniation.Variables observed were crude protein, crude fiber, NDF, ADF, cellulose, hemicellulose and in vitro digestibility. The result of this study showed that duration of fermentation influenced significantly (P<0,05) on chemical composition and in vitro digestibility. In conclusion, the duration of fermentation influenced on chemical composition and in vitro digestibility. The longer the fermentation duration the higher the content of crude protein and in vitro digestibility. Meanwhile, the proportion of crude fiber, NDF, ADF, cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin decreased respectively.

Abstract

To date, there are very few studies have been carried out on the effect of parasite infection on Bali cattle, and more importantly, there is no published data on the epidemiology of worm infections on Bali cattle in the island of Sumbawa, Indonesia. This research aimed to undertake a preliminary study on gastrointestinal (GI) parasitic infection on Bali cattle raised under semi-intensive farming system in five different sites in district of Dompu, Sumbawa island. Fecal samples of 76 Bali cattle, from three farmer groups namely site number 1, 4 and 5, were collected, processed and examined under a microscope, with 100x magnification, for egg fecal counting or oocyst fecal counting using the modified McMaster technique. The number of eggs/oocysts observed was then determined and identified. The results show that the eggs/oocysts ranged from 50-14800. The types of GI parasites identified were Strongyloides sp, Strongyle sp, Toxocara sp, Trichuris sp, and Coccidia. Coccidia oocyst is a type of parasite which was found with the highest percentage of 23.68% followed by Strongyle sp. (18.42%) and Toxocara sp. (10.52%). The overall prevalence of GI parasitic infection in cattle accounted for 43.42%. Young calves (0-3 months old) was more susceptible to GI parasitic infection among other age groups. This preliminary data could be used as a basic data on gastrointestinal parasitic infection in Dompu district. These results may also indicate the need to develop control strategies aiming at lowering the gastrointestinal parasitism.

Abstract

An experiment to study the effect of using ammoniated and fermented rice straw (Amofer) in ration on performance of Bali cattle was conducted at the Laboratory of Nutrition and Feed of Animal Husbandry Faculty, Mataram University. This research was carried out for 8 months, started on April to November 2014. The research materials were four male of Bali cattle and rice straw Amofer. The experiment was designed in 4 x 4 Latin Square with 4 heads of Bali cattle, 4 types of diets as treatments, and 4 periods as replications. The variables measured were feed intake, digestibility, average daily gain, and feed efficiency. All data were analyzed with analysis of variance, and tested further by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test. The results of research showed that treatments did not have significant effect (P>0,05) on feed intake, digestibility, average daily gain, and feed efficiency.

Abstract

The study aims to determine the nutrient composition, digestibility dry matter and organic matter fermented rice  straw in combination with calcium     carbonate, Bacillus sp., and coconut water at different times. Rice straw obtained around the city of Mataram and then was cut into pieces with 3-4 cm in size.  Four treatments  were applied : PI was 300 g rice straw added with a 3% solution of Bacillus sp. and 7% calcium oxide with no  fermentation. Treatments 2 to 4 was similar to the first treatment  but fermentation applied were  for 14, 21 or 28 days respectively. The variables in the study were observed physical properties, chemical composition (dry matter, organic matter, crude protein, crude fiber, neutral  detergent fiber, acid detergent fibre and lignin ) and digestibility of dry matter and organic matter of rice straw.  The data obtained were analyzed using a completely randomized design with SAS statistical program package. The results showed that the fermentation time can increase the nutrient composition organic matter, crude protein, digestibility of dry matter and organic matter  and decreased crude fiber (neutral detergent fibre, acid detergent fibre, hemisellulosa, cellulose and lignin) of  rice straw  fermented with a combination of calcium oxide, Bacillus sp, and coconut water.

Abstract

An experiment with aim to study the effect of probiotics combination level and length of fermentation on qualityimprovement of rice straw had been conducted at the Laboratory of Nutrition and Feed of Animal HusbandryFaculty, Mataram University. The research was arranged in a Completely Randomized Design in factorialarrangement 3 x 3 with 3 replications. The first factor was the level of probiotics (0, 2 and 4%), the second factorwas the period of fermentation (2, 4 and 6 weeks).The variables measured were crude protein, crude fiber, NDF,ADF, cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin, and in vitro digestibility of dry matter and organic matter. Data wereanalyzed by analysis of variance and tested further by Duncan's Multiple Range Test. The result show thattreatments combination of the probiotics level and fermentation period did not affect (P>0.05) the chemicalcomposition and digestibility. The level of probiotics increased (P<0.05) the crude protein and in vitro dry matterdigestibility. Meanwhile, the lenght of fermentation increased the crude protein and in vitro digestibility of drymatter and organic matter, but decreased the crude fiber, NDF, ADF, cellulose, and hemicellulose of Amofer ricestraw.

Abstract

The study aims to evaluate the pre-weaning production prospectus kids of PE crossed with Boer buck. Twenty PE does were in the average 39.35 kg body weight and 3 in body condition score. Does were offered single feed sesbandia glandiflora leaves twice a day. All does were synchronized by 2 ml Capriglandin, inseminate fix time at 48-52 hours following Capriglandin injection. If the does were return to estrus following AI, then they were allowed natural mating. Data collected included gestation period, birth weight and average daily gain (ADG), tabulated and calculated for Mean±SD, interpreted and explained descriptively. The number of kid were 34 consisting of 6 singles male (SM), 12 single female (SF), 8 male twin (MT), 2 female twins (FT) and 6 male-female twins (MFT). Gestation period (days) were 152±0.47 and 152±2.00 for SM and MT. Shorten gestation period were noted for SF, FT and MFT (149±3.82; 150±3.94 and 147±2.94, respectively). The highest birth weight (kg) was SM (4.27±0.29) followed by SF (3.52±0.27), MFT (2.97±0.44), FT (2.73±0.23) and MT (2.71±0.54). The highest ADG (gr/day) occurred at 0-30 days was in MT (201.33 g/d) and the lowest was in FT (137.33 g/d). Abstract

A study was designed to determine Kacang buck sperm membrane integrity and acrosome reaction as to the effect of different concentration of freeze drying fig fruit filtrate in tris egg yolk based extender. This study used 5 proven fertility Kacang goats aged 3-4 years, maintained by Faculty of Animal Sciences, Mataram University, Indonesia. Semen was collected by artificial vagina at every five days. The collected semen was divided into four aliquots in accordance to the treatments extender such as Control (0 gr), T1 (0.02 gr), T2 (0.04 gr) and T3 (0.06 gr) freeze drying fig fruit filtrate in tris egg yolk based extender (gr/v), respectively. Plasma membrane integrity and intact acrosome after re-concentration and preserved at 5ºC were assessed visually at 0 and every 24 hours for 5 consecutive days. The statistical significance of the result was evaluated by a one way ANOVA for completely randomized design analysis of variance. Data were presented as Mean±SD. Results suggest that the mean percentages of sperm membrane integrity in T0, T1,T2 and T3 at 96 h post extended and preserve at 5ºC were 34.3±5.3,  40.6±4.7,  44.8±5.4 and  42.1±5,1, respectively. The mean percentages of sperm acrosome intact were 16.4±4.8, 18.5±1.9,  21.6±3.1 and 19.6±2.8, respectively. The results of the study suggested that additional 0.04gr freeze drying fig fruit filtrate into tris egg yolk based extender have a significant preservation effect on both spermatozoa membrane integrity and acrosome intact of kacang buck.

Abstract

The program of demonstration plot in Rempek Village, North Lombok Regency was expected to become a pioneer for laying chicken farm in the regency. Prior to development of planned facilities, site survey was conducted to find the purposed location and focus discussion group. The demonstration plot used house system with 6 x 20 m in width and length extending from east to west. The cage was built using mild construction iron poles and roofed using spandex. The roof was in a monitor-shape with half?open walls on the north and south sides.  550 cages were put iniside the house to keep 1100 pullets. For the pullet row put next to the walls, they were placed with the heads facing inwards; meanwhile for the pullets in the middle rows, they were placed back to back with each other. Every cage was equipped with a feeder and a nipple. During the rearing process, the pullets were fed 110 g/head/day of a mixture of commercial concentrate, corn, and bran with the ratio of 2:4:4, while drinking water was given ad libitum. The production process was normal with egg production peak reaching 92%. After 4 weeks of the peak production, North Lombok Regency was hit by several earthquake, causing the decrease of egg production for the feed was too procey for the production to continue
