Abstract

A skill of Information literacy for students is very important. This capability will be useful in any search activity information that students need. The development of information and communication technology can greatly support the achievement of good teaching and learning process when coupled with the information literacy skills. The information literacy capability of students and higher education are two inseparable things. Therefore students need information literacy skills to support their learning process at university. Besides that, University libraries have a big role to create the students or academic community to be the literate person. The right steps in organizing information obtained will create a responsibility and independence person. If any student has information literacy skills, no exaggeration to say that the teaching and learning process will go well, and it certainly will create a generation that is able to learn long life in his life.

Abstract

Abstract:  The existence of the library indicates information services.  The  service  shows  two  interrelated  variables: the  provider  on  the  one  hand  and  consumers  on  the  other. Because of relation between service provider and customer satisfaction, then the service should be  increased  from time to time. Library services also needs to be improved. Increased library  services must  be  appropriated  by  it’s  responsibility  to support  education,  teaching,  research  and  community service. There is no doubt, that the library plays an important role in  the  process  of  education  and  teaching. The  frst  library becomes  an  intermediary  between  the  users  and  their information needs. Second, the library can be an information provider  on  one  side  and  can be  consulted  for  the users  in their academic activities. Third, the library can be a teacher who teaches the users the skills and strategies in managing, utilizing, and  creating  information. The  role of  the  library likes this, is named empowerment of library services

Abstract

Information and knowledge which are transformed to anyone will provide tremendous value. When someone is born in the world he has a variety of rights that should not be act, including the right to obtain information and knowledge. The existence of two elements will help an individual or a group discover the identify of the nation that can provide great benefits in the activities of their lives, wether social, political, economic, business or intellectual. In addition, it will culminate in a the highest stage of wisdom. Someone who is able to occupy these domains is believed to be the personally and socially enlightened individual.

Abstract

Shelving is arranging library collections on the shelfes. This activity is very important to controll the collection and has role in the process of information retrieval. But nowdays the shelving it self still has some issues, first is a clerical job, so the job is considered not professional, and second is a main key of the process of retrieval of information / documents. The solution is to set up shelving employees who have professional competenceies in one side, and the other hand is that the need for rationalization with the number of personnel available. This step is the way to determine or make sure that the retrieval of information / documents can run well, without disrupting the work of expert librarians who have the other tasks of librarianship.

Abstract

This paper tries to describe and analyze the role of university/academic libraries in creating an academic environment to the potential users both students, and dozen, or other institutions. Library must involve directly in the process of developing user’s scholarly communication. Academic library must be a good partner of the activities of scholarly communication, in two ways, firsly, providing channels of scholarly communication, and secondly educating to the students, such providing consultation, training, or other scientific activities. So academic library need to create soon as possible the taskforces such liaison librarian, librarian researcher, specialist subjects, to handle scientific communication activities work properly. These activities termed an invisible college, which should be showed to stakeholders and can be included as an integral part of the curriculum.Tulisan ini mencoba mendeskripsikan dan menganalisis peranan perpustakaan perguruan tinggi dalam menciptakan lingkungan akademis terhadap potensi keilmuwan pemustaka, baik mahasiswa, staf pengajar maupun sivitas lembaga lain yang sedang melangsungkan penelitian. Peran perpustakaan ini sangat strategis dalam mengaktualisasikan fungsi perpustakaan yang sesungguhnya dan tidak hanya sebagai gerbang informasi dan ilmu pengetahuan saja, sebagaimana yang sering dituliskan di berbagai tulisan, moto perpustakaan dan lain sebagainya. Fungsi yang penulis maksud adalah   fungsi yang melekat sebagai ruh perpustakaan untuk melibatkan diri secara langsung dalam proses pengembangan komunikasi ilmiah pemustaka. Dalam era informasi dan komunikasi seperti ini, perpustakaan perguruan tinggi memang harus menjadi kawan baik bagi pemustaka bahkan menjadi mitra sejati terhadap kegiatan-kegiatan komunikasi ilmiah tersebut. Menurut penulis proses ini dapat dilakukan dengan dua cara, yaitu pertama, menyediakan saluran-saluran komunikasi ilmiah, kedua memberikan pendampingan dan pendidikan baik secara langsung maupun tidak langsung kepada mahasiswa. Keterlibatan langsung berarti perpustakaan memberikan layanan informasi dengan cara tatap muka, bisa dengan jalan memberikan konsultasi, pelatihan, pendidikan dan seabagainya atau bisa dengan menggunakan media komunikasi secara “real time”, sedangkan keterlibatan secara tidak langsung adalah keterlibatan perpustakaan dalam memberikan konsultasi maupun pelayanan lainnya yang tidak bisa diberikan pada saat proses query itu diberikan, seperti jawaban lewat email, lewat servlist lainnya. Proses komunikasi ilmiah tersebut harus mendapatkan perhatian serius dari tim riset perpustakaan, subject spesialis, dan pustakawan penghubung yang sengaja diciptakan agar kegiatan komunikasi ilmiah dapat ditangani dengan baik.  Sementara kegiatan komunikasi ilmiah yang disponsori perpustakaan ini bisa diistilahkan dengan invisible college, yang harus disuarakan dengan massif lewat website perpustakaan sebagai tindakan agitasi dan persuasive, sehingga diharapkan mampu menggugah stake holder di perguruan tinggi agar di kemudian hari proses-proses yang ada dalam kegiatan komunikasi ilmiah ini dapat disertakan sebagai bagian integral dari kurikulum yang dijalankan.
