Abstract

Science, environment, technology, society (SETS) is a learning approach for encourage students to learn integrated science. Teaching materials based on SETS is printed teaching materials that composed of: 1) physic material chapter optical device, 2) information based on technology development, 3) environmental effect, 4) society effect, 5) matter of discussion, and 6) exercises. The goal of this research is to create a valid teaching material, describe student’s learning outcomes, and describe student’s responses. This research is a kind of development research using 4D method modified by form of 3D, which applied in SMAN 1 Kencong class X IPA 5. Data collection technique in this research are using interview, documentation, validation, student’s questionnaire, test, and observation. The result of analysis from the expert indicate that SETS teaching material is valid with 4.08 validity per aspect. Student’s learning outcomes after using SETS method reach out 97, 22 %. Students responses show that 91,27% students has positive responses the SETS teaching material. The conclusion of this research is SETS teaching material that developed is valid, most of students finish their studies, and give positive responses to the SETS teaching material.
