Abstract

This study was aimed to identify the role of keeper as a risk factor for the infection of gastrointestinal nematodes on orangutans in Jantho Re-introduction Station. This study was conducted using a census method. A number of 8 orangutan’s keepers were involved as respondent. The data was collected by interview using a structural questionnaire. In addition, feces of 6 orangutans caged in this location were taken as sample. The feces sample was then examined for gastrointestinal nematodes using native and centrifugation methods in Parasitology Laboratory, Veterinary Medicine Faculty, Syiah Kuala University. The data obtained from this study were analyzed descriptively. The results of study by questionnaire showed that a possible potential risk factor for the infection of gastrointestinal nematode to orangutans in Jantho Re-introduction Station is the keeper avoids using gloves when supplying food to the animals. Then, the result of laboratory examination showed that it was confirmed that the feces of orangutans infected with gastrointestinal nematodes, which the prevalence of 16.5% for infection by Strongiloides sp. In conclusion, orangutans caged in Jantho Re-introduction Station are in a low infection of gastrointestinal nematodes of Strongiloides sp., and the keeper shows a good behavior to prevent gastrointestinal nematodes infection to orangutan.Key words: keeper, Sumateran orangutan, Pongo abelii, Strongyloides sp.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui perbandingan jumlah mikroba antara ayam normal dengan ayam yang mengalami bruises. Sampel ayam broiler diperoleh di Pasar Lambaro Aceh Besar dengan memilih lima musculus pectoralis ayam normal dan lima musculus pectoralis ayam yang mengalami bruises untuk dilakukan uji mikrobiologis. Bagian musculus pectoralis ditimbang dengan berat 25 g, kemudian dilakukan stomaker untuk mendapatkan ekstrak. Selanjutnya dilakukan uji mikrobiologis, perhitungan jumlah koloni dilakukan selama 24 jam. Jumlah mikroba pada sampelayam normal masing-masing adalah Sn1 (1,6x102), Sn2 (2,6x103), Sn3 (3,5x102), Sn4 (1,3x103), dan Sn5 (1,2x102) Cfu/ml, sedangkan pada sampel ayam yang mengalami bruises masing-masing adalah Sb1 (3,8x104), Sb2 (3,0x104), Sb3 (1,3x105), Sb4 (1,9x105), dan Sb5 (1,6x105) Cfu/ml. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa ayam yang mengalami bruises memiliki jumlah mikroba yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan ayam normal.

Abstract

The present study was aimed to quantify the dynamics of early antigen specific proliferative responses of lymphocytes to (protein) antigens associated with experimentalMycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (Mp) infection cattle. The data were collected from20 experimentally infected calves, and 10 uninfected control animals, during the first 2 years oftheir lives. Several purified protein derivative antigens (Ppdp, Ppda, and Ppdb), tworecombinant Mp heatshock proteins (Hsp65 and Hsp70) and whole bacteria (sonicated Mpstrain 316F) were used to measure lymphocyte proliferation in a lymphocyte proliferationassay. Data were analyzed using a linear mixed effect (LME) model. The results showedsignificant group and timed effects for all antigens tested. At several time points, the responsesin the infected group were found significantly higher as compared to control group. The Ppdantigens induced similar lymphocyte proliferation patterns, as compared to whole bacteriaantigen and Hsp70. These results indicated that the antigen specific proliferative responses oflymphocytes differs for different antigens, probably related to differences in their availabilityduring different stages of infection. The application of LME model is a useful tool for analyzingthe quantitative longitudinal datasets. Keywords: dynamics, Mp, antigen, LME

Abstract

Tumor (TVT) aim of this study was to find out the prevalence and the factors were of Transmissible Venereal disease transmission on Dog Hunter in Payakumbuh. The study was conducted using a cross-sectional observational study (cross-sectional). Data collected through interviews by using questionnaires and observations of the condition of the Dog Hunter. The owners of hunter dogs were selected by purposive sampling. The obtained data were analyzed descriptively. Interviews were conducted with 110 people hunting dog owners with the total number of hunting dogs were observed as many as 300 individuals. The results showed that the prevalence rate of the Transmissible Venereal Tumor (TVT) disease on Dog Hunter in Payakumbuh is 1,33%. Factors the disease emergence were the mating habits of the dog were uncontrolled, the high levels of dogs sexual activity that was free to roam, the habitual of  sniffing and licking genitals of infected dogs TVT, and also does not apply the principles of biosecurity property.

Abstract

ABSTRAK   Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis standar sanitasi dan tingkat pemahaman masyarakat terkait penyembelihan sapi kurban di Kota Banda Aceh tahun 2015. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah menganalisis data hasil survei pada pemotongan sapi kurban di Kota Banda Aceh tahun 2015. Data hasil survei di kelompokkan ke dalam tiga kategori. Kategori pertama terkait aspek tempat penampungan dan penyembelihan hewan kurban. Kemudian aspek kedua tentang proses penyembelihan sapi kurban. Selanjutnya aspek ketiga mengenai pemotongan daging atau karkas. Data tersebut dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa sekitar 36,56% pelaksanaan pemotongan hewan kurban di Kota Banda Aceh belum menerapkan aspek sanitasi pembuangan darah dengan baik. Selain itu, sekitar 54,84% masyarakat Kota Banda Aceh tidak mempersiapkan tempat penampunga khusus untuk hewan kurban. Di samping itu sekitar 91,40% proses pembersihan daging dan organ dalam dilakukan dalam wadah atau tempat yang sama. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa sebagian masyarakat di Kota Banda Aceh belum sepenuhnya menerapkan standar sanitasi pada  pelaksanaan penyembelihan hewan kurban tahun 2015, selain itu informasi terkait pentingnya sanitasi penyembelihan hewan kurban masih minim didapatkan oleh masyarakat di Kota Banda Aceh.Kata kunci: sanitasi, penampungan, penyembelihan, sapi kurban, Banda Aceh ABSTRACTThe aim of this study was to analyze sanitation standard and to measured understanding degree of citizen related to kurban slaughter in Banda Aceh in 2015. This study analyzed Banda Aceh survey data resulted by kurban in 2015. Data were categoryzed into three group. First category related to places of sheltering and slaughtering of kurban animals. Second aspect related to slaughtering process. Third aspect related to meat cutting or carcass. Data were analyzed in descriptive. Analysis showed around 36,56% animals slaughtering process in Banda Aceh have not implemented a good sanitation aspect to blood waste disposal. Beside, around 54,84% Banda Aceh citizen were not preparing a distinct place for kurban animals shelter before slaughtering. Around 91,40% the meat and organ cutting product were placed in the same container. In conclusion, kurban slaughtering of kurban animals in Banda Aceh in 2015, had not implented a good sanitation aspect.Keywords: sanitation, shelter, slaughter, cattle sacrifice, Banda Aceh

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui hubungan antara lesi makroskopis dengan keberadaan mikroba pada hati ayam broiler. Sampel ayam broiler diperoleh di pasar Lambaro Aceh Besar dengan memilih lima hati ayam normal dan lima hati ayam yang mengalami lesi untuk dilakukan uji mikrobiologis. Hati diambil seberat 25 g, kemudian dilakukan stomaker untuk mendapatkan ekstrak pengencerannya. Selanjutnya dilakukan uji mikrobiologis, pengamatan dilakukan selama 24 jam dengan menghitung koloni per cawan petri. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan sampel hati ayam normal memiliki koloni masing-masing sebanyakn Sn21 (6,5x1022), x Sn2 (2,3x103), Sn3 (1,3x103), Sn4 (1,5x103), dan Sn5 (2,3x102) Cfu/ml, sedangkan sampel hati yang mengalami lesi memiliki koloni masing-masing sebanyak SL1  (3,1x104), SL2 (1,8x106), SL3 (2,7x105), SL4(4,5x106), dan SL5 (1,2x107 )Cfu/ml. Berdasarkan hasil pengamatan disimpulkan bahwa hati yang mengalami lesi cenderung memiliki jumlah mikroba yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan hati yang normal.

Abstract

This research was aimed to isolate the Gram-positive bacteria that contaminated milk processed with ultra high temperature (UHT) at 6 and 3 months before the date expires. A number of 3 different UHT milk products at 6 and 3 months before expire date were used as sample. Milk samples were taken from several supermarket in Banda Aceh. The identification was conducted using Gram staining method. One ml milk sample was transferred into 18 tubes containing nutrient broth (NB) media and incubated at 37 C for 24 hrs. The sample was then culture on 18 petri discs containing manitol salt agar (MSA) and 18 petri discs containing trypticase soy sucrose bacitracin (TYS20B) using streak plate method. After 2 days, bacterial colonies that grow were identified by Gram staining. The results showed that in UHT processed milk at 6 and 3 prior to expiration contaminated with Gram positive cocci bacteria, which comprised of Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus mutant. As conclusion, UHT processed milk at 6 and 3 prior to expiration is contaminated by Gram positive cocci bacteria.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine early spoilage of beef after addition of curry leaf extract. The sample used is beef Semimembranosus muscle which is divided into 42 parts each weight is 5 grams. This research used experimental method which consists of three treatments with two repetitions. P1 group is without curry leaf extract (control), group P2 with curry leaf extract 25% used and group P3 with curry leaf extract 50%. The entire sample is stored in a refrigerator at 4 ° C. For 7 days early spoilage test is conducted every day at 9am and 4pm. The result showed difference early spoilage time between each treatment. In P1 positive result of early spoilage time is on the 4th day and P2 positive result of early spoilage time is on the 5th day. While in P3 has not obtained positive result of early spoilage time at 7 days storage. Based on the results of this study we concluded that curry leaf extract can slow down the early spoilage time of beef

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the total of A. niger found in the gastrointestinal tract of broilers after the addition of soybean dregs and fermented palm kernel meal by A.niger as probiotics (AKBIS Prob) in the fodder. This study used a complete randomized factorial design, which consists of two factors, namely factor AKBIS concentration and duration of AKBIS Prob. The treatment was divided into the group as a control P0, P1, P2 and P3 which consisted of five broilers, respectively given feed supplemented with AKBIS Prob 2, 4 and 6%. The provision of AKBIS Prob has done for 21 days and 35 days. On the 22nd and 36th day the contents of the caecum were taken. The total of A. niger was obtained using Total Plate Count (TPC) method. The data analysis used a factorial analysis of variance. The results showed that the concentration of 2, 4 and 6% did not affect (P> 0.05) the total of A. niger in the caecum of broilers, while the provision of AKBIS prob in fodder for 21 and 35 days had a significant effect (P <0.05) to the total A. niger. It can be concluded that the provision of the concentration of AKBIS Prob up to 6% in the fodder decreases the total of A. Niger. The provision of AKBIS Prob for 35 days can increase the total of A. niger in the digestive tract of broilers.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of Indigofera sp. leaf to increase protein content of rabbit meat (Origtolagus sp). This study used a complete randomized design, consisted of 3 treatments and 3 replications. The samples were nine local male rabbits aged two months. P0 was control group which was given commercial feed, P1 was given 80% commercial feed and 20% Indigofera sp. pellet leaf, and P2 was given 70% commercial feed and 30%  Indigofera sp. pellet leaf. The feeding and drinking was conducted at 07:00 to 08:00 am and at 04:00 to 05:00 pm ad libitum. Protein content was measured using Kjeldahl method after eight weeks of treatments. The data was analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) with SPSS v16.0 for Windows. The results showed that mean value (±SD) of meat protein for P0, P1 and P2 were 18.79+0.81%, 19.40+0.33% and 20.88+0.74%, respectively. We can conclude that the leaves of Indigofera sp. was highly significant (P<0,01) in increasing protein level of rabbit meat at a concentration of 30%.
