Abstract

The mathematical ability that should be owned by the students as stated by the NCTM, namely (1) learn to communicate; (2) learn to reason; (3) learn to solve problems; (4) learn to associate ideas; (5) learning to represent ideas. By having the ability mathematical understanding, students are able to explain the relationship between concepts and is able to communicate ideas with symbols, tables, diagrams, or other media to clarify the issue and was able to solve the problems. It is thus necessary that the proper application of learning models to improve the understanding and communication of mathematical students is one model of cooperative jigsaw. This study aims to determine the increase in the ability of students mathematical understanding and communication that derive jigsaw cooperative learning with students who received conventional teaching students to be reviewed as a whole and by the beginning of students mathematical abilities. This research used experimental design with pretest-posttest control group design. Samples selected by random sampling consisted of two classes, namely classes and class XMIA5 XMIA2. Collecting data using test instruments mathematical understanding and communication capabilities that pretest and posttest in the second grade. hypothesis testing using t-test, t test "and Mann Whitney test with a significance level of 0.05. Based on the results of data analysis is concluded that, overall, students increase their understanding and mathematical communication abilities of students who obtain a type of cooperative learning jigsaw better than students who received conventional learning. Judging from the initial ability of students mathematical (a) Increasing the ability of understanding mathematical group students of high, medium and low gain type of cooperative learning jigsaw better than a group of students of high, medium and low who obtain conventional learning, (b) Improved communication capabilities mathematical student group medium and low gain type of cooperative learning jigsaw better than a group of students of high, medium and low who obtain conventional learning.

Abstract

Media Audio Visual adalah alat yang dipergunakan dalam situasi belajar berguna untuk membantu tulisan dan kata yang di ucapkan dalam menyampaikan pengetahuan. Gaya Belajar adalah cara bagaimana menyerap dan menyimpan informasi selama proses belajar berlangsung.Adapun rumusan masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah bagaimana kontribusi media belajar audio visual dan gaya belajar terhadap hasil belajar siswa kelas V SD Lampeuneurut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kontribusi media belajar audio visual dan gaya belajar terhadap hasil belajar siswa kelas V SD Lampeuneurut.Populasi dalam penelitian ini seluruh siswa kelas V di SD Lampeuneurut Aceh Besar yang terdiri dari  4 kelas paralel. Yang terdiri dari kelas Va, Vb, Vc dan Vd yang terdiri atas 30 siswa, sehingga jumlah populasi adalah 120 siswa. Sampel dalam penelitian ini terdiri dari 30 orang siswa, sampel diambil dengan mengguanakan teknik random sampling. Teknik pengumpulan data adalah dengan menggunakan angket dan tes.Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan rumus kolerasi product moment. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa nilai koefisien korelasi (r) antara penggunaan media audio visual (X1), dengan hasil belajar sains (Y) pada siswa kelas V di SD Negeri Lampeunerut Aceh Besar adalah 0,73 (tinggi) dan nilai koefisien korelasi antara variabel gaya belajar (X2) dengan hasil belajar siswa sebesar 0,89 (sangat tinggi). Sedangkan koefisien korelasi ganda antara variabel media audio visual (X1) dan gaya belajar (X2) terhadap hasil belajar (Y) sebesar 0,91 (sangat tinggi). Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa media audio visual dan gaya belajar memberikan kontribusi yang sangat tinggi terhadap hasil belajar siswa.

Abstract

Problem Based Learning, PBL, is one of concept learning to apply real life concept and present problem in the beginning of learning. In the textbook, the topic of learning not suitable with daily activities of students and a teacher not understood what he or she taught to their student. In fact, the case will bring a situation which pupils not interested with mathematics because they did not learn about what they need. Based on the case, it created a development student’s book, teacher’s book, and student worksheet. They presented problems in student life. This research has purposed to generated the mathematics learning with PBL models are valid and practical. In study, the method was used a development research, namely Dick model and Carey model. The learning PBL consists of the teacher’s book, student worksheet, lesson plan, and achievement test. Based on development, it shown that validation learning tools were resulted the overall validation of learning illustrated validity criteria was very valid,  validation of test result was valid, and validation of question was valid. Furthermore, learning tool developed was practical category, it based on experiment in in SMA Negeri 8 Banda Aceh and students of class X which has very good of activities percentage, learning process very good by teacher observation, and test result on worksheet was very good.  The assignment  of student and teacher to the learning tool show good criteria, and score of students test have reached an average by 76.1.The conclusion, in this research, shown that the PBL learning tool developed which fulfill valid categorize and practical

Abstract

Problem-Based Instruction (PBI) is one of learning model which required student to be more active and create steps in solving problem so that the student should be able to develope their ability in solving mathematics problem and change the student’s perspective in mathematics positively. This study aims to asses the improvemement of problem solving and student’s self-concept that are taught by using PBI model and the student who taught by conventional learning through their level in studying. This study used pre-test post-test control group design. The population in this study is the eleventh grade students of SMK Farmasi Cut Meutia Banda Aceh in the school year 2013-2014. Samples were taken two classes XIA as the experimental class and XIB as a control class through purposing sampling technique. The instrument used to obtain research data is a mathematics problem solving ability test. The statistical test used to analyze the increasing problem solving data are ANOVA two path test. The result showed that the improvement problem solving ability that were taught by using PBI is better than students taught with conventional learning. According to student’s level, improving problem solving ability through PBI model is also better than students taught with conventional learning.

Abstract

Mathematics is a very abstract lesson and is always connected with numbers and formulas. Many students feel unhappy about mathematics and find difficulties in solving problems in the form of tables, stories, and diagrams. Learning method that can help students in improving mathematical communication and mathematical dispositions can be done through the application of discovery learning models. The purpose of this study was to determine the improvement of students mathematical communication and disposition abilities taught with discovery learning models. This study useda quantitative approach with the type of experimental research and the research design usedtrue pretest and posttest design type experiments. The population in this study were all eighth grade students of SMP N 2 Sigli. The sample was chosen randomly from two classes:classes VIII2 and VIII3. The research instrument used was mathematical communication ability test and mathematical disposition questionnaire. The data analysis of students communication and disposition ability was done by two-way ANAVA test at a significant level of 0.05. The results showed that the improvement of students mathematical communication and disposition skills taught with discovery learning models was better than those taught with conventional approaches. Furthermore, there wasno interaction between discovery learning model and the level of students towards improving communication skills and mathematical dispositions. Therefore, mathematics teachers in SMP N 2 Sigli who teach in class VIII can use discovery learning models in learning to build the next flat side space. Futureresearchers should conduct research at other schools in order to improve students mathematical communication skills in mathematics learning.

Abstract

AbstractThis research aimed to describe the process of lateral thinking amongst the students in MAS (equivalent to Private Senior High School) Darul Hikmah, Aceh Besar in solving geometry problems through open-ended approach. This research was a descriptive research and conducted by using a qualitative approach. Research subject was three students of Class XII of MAS Darul Hikmah, Aceh Besar, who had different abilities. Subject selection was conducted at the end of the research. Data collection was carried out by conducting test and interview. Data analysis was done by using qualitative method, i.e.: data reduction, data display, and conclusion. The results showed that the process of lateral thinking amongst the students was: 1) writing and explaining the things being known and asked in the questions, 2) solving the problems by using different methods, 3) solving the problems by using unusual method as it was relatively short; did not use much math operation; and was easily to understand; and 4) getting the idea in solving the problems by practicing trial and error; using previous operations; using triangle and diagonal; and having the ability to explain the unusual steps that have been used.Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan proses berpikir lateral siswa siswa MAS Darul Hikmah Aceh Besar dalam menyelesaikan masalah geometri melalui pendekatan open-ended. Penelitian ini berbentuk deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Subjek penelitian adalah tiga orang siswa kelas XII MAS Darul Hikmah Aceh besar yang memiliki kemampuan berbeda. Pemilihan subjek dilakukan pada akhir penelitian. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan tes dan wawancara. Analisis data menggunakan teknik analisis data kualitaif yaitu: reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa proses berpikir lateral siswa adalah: 1) menuliskan dan menyebutkan apa yang diketahui dan yang ditanyakan pada soal; 2) menyelesaikan permasalahan yang diberikan dengan mengunakan cara-cara penyelesaian berbeda; 3) menyelesaikan permasalahan dengan menggunakan cara yang tidak umum, lebih memilih menggunakan cara penyelesaiaan tidak umum karena relatif lebih singkat, tidak banyak menggunakan perhitungan matematika, dan mudah dipahami; dan 4) mendapatkan ide dalam menyelesaikan permasalahan dengan cara mencoba-coba, memanfaatkan cara penyelesaian yang pernah dikerjakan sebelumnya, memanfaatkan segitiga siku-siku, diagonal garis, dan mampu memberikan penjelasan mengenai langkah penyelesaian tidak umum yang telah digunakan.

The Improvement of Communication and Mathematical Disposition Abilities through Discovery Learning Model in Junior High School

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the improvement of students' mathematical communication and disposition abilities taught with discovery learning models. The sample was chosen randomly from two classes of 7th grade in one of public junior high school in Sigli, Aceh. The research instrument used was mathematical communication ability test and mathematical disposition questionnaire. The data analysis of students' communication and disposition ability was done by two-way ANAVA test at a significant level of 0.05. The results showed that the improvement of students' mathematical communication and disposition skills taught with discovery learning models was better than those taught with conventional approaches. Furthermore, there was no interaction between discovery learning model and the level of students towards improving communication skills and mathematical dispositions. Therefore, the mathematics teachers can implement discovery learning models in learning to build the next polyhedron. Future researchers should conduct research at other schools in order to improve students' mathematical communication skills in mathematics learning

Abstract

Interest geometry are taught is to develop spatial ability so as to impart knowledge to support other materials. As NCTM specify one of five content standards in mathematics, namely geometry measurement an important element involves the use of visualization and modeling. This shows that modeling is the demands of the curriculum that must be accommodated in the classroom. Therefore, teachers should be able to apply the learning object model that abstracts from geometry into real situations imaginable learners. One lesson that applies the use of models that help learners build their own knowledge is Realistic Mathematics Education (RME). Shaped media selection Information and Computer Technology (ICT) can also meet the demands of the curriculum on the use of visualization to teach geometry. One of ICTs to facilitate learners to imagine something abstract geometry of the object is Cabri 3D software. But in reality there is no learning device that integrates Cabri 3D geometry once using RME approach. This study aims to develop and produce devices RME-assisted learning Cabri 3D is valid, practical, and effective. This research is a research development refers to the model of Dick and Carey consisting of nine steps, namely the identification of learning objectives, learning analysis, identification of the characteristics of learners, formulate learning objectives, develop test items, develop learning strategies, develop learning materials, design and implement formative evaluation, and revising instructional materials. The trial in this study conducted in SMP 19 Pilot Banda Aceh. The result showed that the learning device geometry with Cabri 3D-assisted RME approach memenui valid criteria, practical andeffective.

Abstract

Every individual basically has the creative potential and creative thinking abilities of students can be improved, so that the teacher needs to know the level of creative thinking abilities of the students in solving mathematical problems and filed. By knowing the level of creative thinking abilities of students the teacher can design methods, strategies and learning techniques to improve students' ability to think creatively. One way to determine the level of students' creative thinking among others, by asking students to solve problems and propose open (open ended). The use of open-ended questions can stimulate creative thinking, original thinking skills, and innovation in mathematics. This study aims to determine the level of students' creative thinking in mathematical problem solving and problem posing through open ended type of questions and the level of creative thinking of students in the filing of mathematical problems through open ended type of questions. This research is a descriptive qualitative data collection using the test method open ended questions and interviews. The subjects were students of class VII MTsN Meureudu. All the study subjects given a test with open-ended questions, the results were analyzed based on three components, namely creative thinking fluency, flexibility and originality, then researchers conducted interviews with six students to confirm an answer and describe the level of creative thinking. The results showed that two students are at level 4 (very creative), a student is at level 3 (creative), and two students are on the 2nd level (quite creative). While the other students do not have the ability to think creatively in solving problems. Three of the six students are on the 2nd level (quite creative), while three other students do not have the ability to think creatively in a posing problem.

Abstract

The rise of the moral crisis that occurred among students, fuelling disquiet and anxiety of the various elements of the nation. One of the solutions to tackle the problems of the moral crisis is through the character education.  This research aims to analyze the efforts of teachers to develop the character of critical thinking and creative thinking of students through the learning of mathematics, and know the relationship of teacher's effort to develop the character of critical thinking and creative thinking characters with student learning outcomes related to the ability of critical thinking and creative thinking. Subjects in the study was a teachers of mathematics class V-2 MIN Tungkop Aceh Besar District. Research data collected through observation and interview against teachers and students as well as through tests the ability of the creative thinking and critical thinking that are given to students. Based on the results of the research it is known that 1) The teacher had been an effort to develop the character of critical thinking and creative thinking of students by providing questions that include critical thinking and creative though not at all meetings, but the encouragement of teachers in order to give students the critical thinking and creative thinking during the learning process still belongs to minimal 2) The ability of critical thinking and creative thinking students of class V – 2 in the category of “Very low”.
