Abstract

This research is a kind of Research and Development Learning Cycle 3E Model (Exploration, Explanation, and Elaboration). Results of research on the effects of dosing leaf extract flower moon (Tithonia diversifolia) to decrease blood glucose levels in wistar rats induced by alloxan obtained from experimental studies used as the material for developing interactive learning media on the matter Structure and Function of Cells Composer tissue in the digestive system (Biology, Senior High School, Grade XI, Basic Competency 3.7). The research was conducted from March to August 2016 at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang. Interactive learning media that has been developed consisting of a variety of menus, namely, 1) Title of matter, namely the structure and function of cells making up the network on the digestive system; 2) Present the student competence unbiased KI, KD, indicators; 3) Presenting materials about digestive tools, digestive gland, video digestive process, digestive disorders, diabetes mellitus, and plant Tithonia diversifolia; 4) Problem evaluation; 5) referral sources; 6) The results of the study, and 7) Profile of developers and lecturers.

Abstract

Budidaya rumput laut di Kepulauan Sapeken Kabupaten Sumenep sangat potensial untu dilakukan, namun pada kenyataannya para nelayan/petani masih mengalami banyak kendala, sehingga aktivitas tersebut belum memiliki kontribusi bagi peningkatan kesejahteraan masyarakat. Tim telah melakukan kegiatan pengabdian di Kepulauan Sapeken Kabupaten Sumenep, sehingga artikel ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan implementasi pendampingan masyarakat dalam budidaya rumput laut di daerah tersebut. Subjek dalam pengabdian adalah 2 kelompok tani rumput laut (masing-masing terdiri atas 10 orang pembudidaya).  Kegiatan pengabdian ini dilaksanakan selama delapan bulan. Metode yang digunakan dalam pengabdian ini adalah survey, demonstrasi, dan praktek langusng, dan evaluasi. Keterlaksanaan atau keberhasilan pengabdian didasarkan pada terpenuhinya indikator-indikator proses pengabdian dan produk yang dihasilkan dalam pengabdian, Kegiatan pengabdian dievaluasi dalam hal proses dan akhir kegiatan. Kegiatan pengabdian dianggap telah berhasil bila persentase keterlibatan dan keaktifan masyarakat mencapai ≥75%, masyarakat mampu melakukan budidaya. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa masyarakat mitra sangat antusias terlibat, 100% terlibat dalam budidaya, da nada peningkatan produksi budidaya rumput laut. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa pengabdian masyarakat telah diimplementasikan sesuai dengan rencana.

Blended Project Based Learning: Metacognitive Awareness of Biology Education New Students

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the difference of metacognitive awareness of treatment (using Blended Project Based Learning) and control class. This is a quasi-experimental research with Non-equivalent Control Group Design. This research was conducted at Department of Biology Education, University of Muhammadiyah Malang, in the first semester of the academic year 2014/2015.  Metacognitive awareness of treatment class and control class was measured by using Metacognitive Awareness Inventory. Metacognitive awareness difference analysed with One-way ANOVA, processed with SPSS 22 for Windows. The results showed that there were difference Mean values in metacognitive awareness (knowledge about cognition and regulation of cognitive) between treatment and control. Mean value of treatment class was higher than control class. It means that Blended Project Based Learning effectively to develop and stimulation metacognitive awareness of new students (Biology teachers candidates).

Abstract

Collembola is one of a group of animals that generally live on the surface and in the soil. Collembola have an important role in the ecosystem due to its function as a consumer subsystem and decomposition subsystem that can be used as bio-indicators. Changing in habitat in the upstream of Brantas River Basin is cause disruption for Collembola community. This is a descriptive research, aims to uncover the information of community structure, including the type found, diversity, evenness, and relative abundance of Collembola in three type habitats (forest, agricultural, and residential). Soil sampling conducted in each habitat type using TBSF methods. Identification of Collembola samples conducted at the Biology Laboratory of UMM and verified at Basic Entomology Laboratory, Gadjah Mada University. This study results are; (1) the number of Collembola were found in forest were 21, agriculture were 5, and residential were 17. (2) There is difference in descriptive diversity of Collembola in forest, agricultural, and residential. Collembola species diversity index of forest higher (2.78) compared to agriculture (1.16) and residential (2.42). Forest and residential habitat have moderate diversity, while agriculture has a low diversity. (3) There is difference in descriptive evenness of Collembola in forest, agricultural, and residential. Evenness index Collembola in forest was higher (0.91) than agriculture (0.72) and residential (0.85). Evenness of Collembola in residential is higher than agriculture. All types of habitat, including having a high evenness. (4) There are differences in the relative abundance of descriptive Collembola in forest, agricultural, and residential. Relative abundance of forest, agricultural, and residential varied. The highest relative abundance in forest is Hypogastrura consanguinea, Ascocyrtus sp, and Homidia cingula. The highest relative abundance in agriculture is Pseudachorutes javanicus, Isotomurus palustris, and Ascocyrtus sp. The highest relative abundance in residential is Ascocyrtus sp., Cryptopygus thermophilus, and Isotomurus palustris.Keywords: Community structure,  Collembola, Brantas river

Abstract

Poverty have become the phenomenal problem along with the history of Indonesia as a nation. The number of poverty in 2009 is estimated to be 41,1 billion people (21,92%). In narrow sense, poverty is known as condition of having not enough money and stuffs to ensure the continuing of life. In broader sense, poverty is a multifaces and multidimentional phenomenon. Furthermore, it has variation of its own manifestation and it has limited societys rights. The main pillars of to overcome poverty are pro the poor fund, good governance and social development, and process of empowerment on micro economy as pilar of development.

Abstract

Indonesians are actually representation of rich nation because they have many cultures with various diversities. On the other hand, the fact is that there are so many cultures have lost, entirely disappeared, or stolen by others. It is because we are remiss to behave properly on the cultures and carry out them. Therefore, it needs institutional approach in the form of government’s concrete steps and reinforcement on education’s role.

Research Methodology through Writing Research Proposal Retrospectively by Combining Classroom Discussion and Collaborative Working Group in Lesson Study

Abstract

Lesson Study (LS) was conducted aiming at: (1) describing the ideal steps in combining classroom discussion and collaborative working group in effort to improve students’ comprehension on writing biology research proposal that is arranged retrospectively; (2) analyzing the improvement of students’ comprehension on writing biology research proposal retrospectively by combining classroom discussion and collaborative working group (further noted as collaborative classroom discussion).The location of LS was in Class VB and VC, incorporating fifth semester students in Biology Education Department University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) Indonesia. This LS was conducted within four cycles with its main focus on concept comprehension covering three cognitive levels, namely: simple concept comprehension, concept analysis, and concept synthesis.The findings of this current LS concluded that there were 8 activity stages in ideal syntax of collaborative classroom discussion, to name: (1) pre-condition: students were to complete collaborative working group-based assignments; (2) the lecturer explained the rules and assessment system of the discussion; (3) reorganizing seating arrangement and dividing group discussions, one presenting group and the other discussion groups; (4) positioning the students from high group in each discussion group; (5) the lecturer acted as a facilitator and was accompanied by a student-recruited note-taker; (6) conducting classroom discussion led by the facilitator; (7) the lecturer administered the assessment process; and (8) the lecturer along with students conducted reflection.The implementation of ideal syntax of collaborative classroom discussion was proven to improve students’ comprehension on biology research methodology through writing research proposal retrospectively. Collaborative classroom discussion could improve students’ comprehension on biology research methodology course as the implementation of which improved cognitive processes, initiated from simple concept comprehension, concept analysis, to concept synthesis and evaluation.

Abstract

Banana peels have not been utilized optimally, just disposed of as organic waste or used as animal feed. Ripe banana peel skin is rich of chemical compounds which are antioxidants, both flavonoid compounds and other phenolic compounds. Banana peel contains high antioxidant activity compared to meat, especially “Raja Bulu” banana skin  which has antioxidant equal to 97,85%. Natural source of antioxidants in banana peel skin is very beneficial for health. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of various drying temperature on antioxidant activity and the optimum drying temperature to antioxidant activity. This study also aims to determine the level of panelists preference for herbal drinks of “Raja Bulu” banana peel with various drying temperatures. The type of research used is True Experimental Research. The study design was using RAL with 4 treatment P0 (control), P1 (drying temperature 75°C), P2 (drying temperature 80°C), P3 (drying temperature 85°C). Data is included the amount of antioxidant activity content and the average of organoleptic properties of banana peel herbal drink. Data analysis techniques used are One Way Anova and qualitative descriptive. The results showed 1) Various drying temperature effect on the antioxidant activity of banana peel herbal drink. 2) The best treatment is P3 (drying temperature 85°C) with antioxidant activity of 84.87%. 3) The result of the panelists favorite test for the best color, flavor and taste on P3 treatment with 85 ° C drying temperature.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) mendiskripsikan hasil belajar peserta didik kelas VIII SMPN 2 Randuagung setelah diterapkan model pembelajaran CIRC pada materi gerak tumbuhan, (2) mendiskripsikan kemampuan berpikir kritis peserta didik kelas VIII SMPN 2 Randuagung setelah diterapkan model pembelajaran CIRC pada materi materi gerak pada tumbuhan. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK). Objek penelitian adalah proses pembelajaran biologi di SMPN 2 Randuagung Lumajang kelas VIII dan subjek dari penelitian adalah semua peserta didik yang ada di kelas tersebut. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dalam dua siklus, yakni siklus I terdiri dari dua kali pertemuan dan siklus II terdiri dari dua kali pertemuan. Setiap akhir siklus diadakan tes berupa ulangan harian. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian berupa lembar observasi, tes dan wawancara terhadap guru dan peserta didik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran biologi dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran CIRC memberikan dampak positif terhadap hasil belajar dan kemampuan berpikir kritis peserta didik. (1) Hasil belajar peserta didik meningkat 31% dari data awal yang diperoleh dari guru ke siklus I dan meningkat lagi 41,4% pada siklus II. (2) Skor kemampuan berpikir kritis peserta didik mengalami peningkatan pada semua kelompok pada setiap siklusnya terutama peningkatan pada mengevaluasi dan menyimpulkan. Kriteria kemampuan berpikir kritis peserta didik, yaitu (a) kemampuan mengidentifikasi masalah, (b) kemampuan menganalisis, (c) kemampuan mengevaluasi, dan (d) kemampuan menyimpulkan.
