Abstract

Tidal swamp is suboptimal land with low fertility rates. This study aims to determine the cropping pattern through intercropping spacing arrangement with biological fertilizer application on corn and soybean. Field research was conducted in the village of tidal swamp Banyu Urip South Sumatra in June-November 2013 using the Split Plot design with the main plot composition Corn planting distance (J) - Soybean (K) i.e. JK 1:3, 1:2 and 1:1; subplot is the provision of biological fertilizer (0, BioP, Azospirillum and BioP + Azospirillum) with 3 replications. Data monoculture corn and soybean as control. Land use on maize soybean intercropping obtained shelled corn and soybean production highest in treatments JK 1:3 with inorganic fertilizer application, although not statistically significantly different (HSD = 0.05). The efficiency ratio is calculated through the land Land Equivalent Ratio (LER) in the treatment of JK 1:3 high of 1.56 whereas the biological fertilizer application LER was 1.69. Competition between plants with CR (competition ratio) of 7.25 occurred at the highest JK 1:1. This study showed a favorable outcome in the land use pattern of intercropping maize planting soybeans in tidal swamps.

Abstract

Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pola tanam optimal melalui pengaturan jarak tanam dengan pemberian pupuk hayati pada tumpangsari jagung dan kedelai. Penelitian lapangan dilaksanakan di lahan pasang surut Desa Banyuurip, Sumatera Selatan dalam dua Musim Tanam (MT) pada bulan Mei-November 2012 dan 2013. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Petak Terbagi (split plot design) dengan petak utama adalah komposisi jarak tanam Jagung (J)-Kedelai (K) yaitu JK 1:3, 1:2, 1:1, dengan anak petak berupa pemberian pupuk hayati (0, BioP, Azospirillum, dan BioP + Azospirillum) dengan tiga ulangan. Sistem monokultur jagung dan kedelai dijadikan sebagai kontrol. Selama dua MT terjadi peningkatan hasil pipilan jagung pada perlakuan JK 1:3 hingga 140%, sedangkan kedelai terjadi peningkatan 16%. Pemberian pupuk hayati pada perlakuan JK 1:3 mampu meningkatkan NKL hingga 14%. NKL berbeda tidak nyata pada MT 2012 dan MT 2013, sedangkan pada perlakuan JK 1:1 terjadi penurunan hasil pipilan yang sangat nyata hingga 35,3% dengan CR (rasio kompetisi) tertinggi yaitu 7,25. Serapan hara N, P, dan K berbeda sangat nyata hanya pada tanaman jagung dan berbeda nyata pada tumpangsari kedelai. Abstract. This study aims to determine the optimum cropping system by plant spacing arrangement, and bio-fertilizer application in a maize and soybean intercropping. The field research has been conducted in tidal swamp of Banyuurip in South Sumatra in two Plant Seasons (MT) in May - November 2012 and 2013. This study used a Split plot design with the composition of maize(J) and Soybean (K), JK 1:3, 1:2, 1:1 as the main plot and biological fertilizer (0, BioP, Azospirillum, and BioP + Azospirillum) as the sub-plots with 3 replications. Monoculture maize and soybeans were used as the control. During the two planting seasons the maize grain yield increased for JK 1: 3 treatment up to 140%, while for soybean it increased 16%. Biological fertilizer application in treatment of JK 1:3 increase LER up 14%. Land Equivalent Ratio (LER) were not signifiantly different between MT 2012 and MT 2013, while for treatment JK 1: 1 it decreased 35.3% with the highest CR (ratio of competition) of 7.25. Nutrient uptake for N, P, and K was highly significantly different for the maize system and significantly different for soybean intercropping system.

Abstract

The effort to increase food production in tidal lowland areas was conducted by applying production technology through the use of superior varieties and organic fertilizer enriched with bacteria (bio organic fertilizer). This fertilizer was a formula that had been tested in swamp lowland area and proven capable to regain land fertility through action of beneficial microbia. Some microbia which used to produce bioorganic fertilizer are Azospirillium bacterium and phosphate solvent bacterium with carrier substance of chicken manure fertilizer. The reserach objective was to determine yield capacity of two rice varieties by using inorganic fertilizer and bioorganic fertilizer at tidal lowland area. This research was done at tidal lowland area of C-flooding type. The design used in this study was Factorial Randomized Block Design with 4 treatment combinations and 6 replications for each treatment. The first factor was varieties which consisted of Inpara 6 (V1) and Inpari I (V2), whereas the second factor was fertilizer types which consisted of inorganic fertilizer (P1) and bio-organic fertilizer (P2). The results showed that yield capacity of Inpari I rice variety treated with bio-organic fertilizer + 50% of recommended NPK fertilizer could increase the production of dry unhulled rice with magnitude of 165% (1.59 kg/plot or equal to 3.98 ton/ha) at tidal lowland of C flooding type. Through the provision of biofertilizers, chicken manure enriched with Azospirillum and bacteriophosphate biofertilizers contributes to sustainability agriculture, especially in tidal wetland
