Abstract

This study aims to synthesize simvastatin hydrogel as drug delivery system with surfactant addition for improving solubility of simvastatin. Surfactants used in the study were the zwitterionic amino acid of arginine and nonionic surface-active agent of polysorbate 80. The solubility study was conducted by pouring of an excess mass of simvastatin into the solution of a surfactant in a conical flask. The sample was shaken up to 72 h in a mechanical water bath shaker at a varied temperature of 25, 40, and 50 °C. The amount of drug dissolved in solution was analyzed by UV/Visible spectrophotometer at 238 nm. The results showed that the simvastatin solubility is profoundly influenced by the surfactant type, surfactant concentration, and temperature. Polysorbate 80 exhibited as a better surfactant than arginine and an enhancement up to 1400 times, in respect of without any addition of a surfactant, was observed. Based on the solubility study, simvastatin-loaded gelatin hydrogel composite was formulated and the characterization (FTIR and SEM) showed the successful impregnation. The hydrogel microparticles of featured swelling indexes in the range of 2–6 for every patch and presented a sustained release profile.

Abstract

Background: Fixed orthodontic treatment needs several types of wire to produce biomechanical force to move teeth. The use orthodontic wire within the mouth interacts with saliva, causing the release of nickel and chromium ions. Purpose: The study was aimed to examine the effect of immersion time in artificial saliva between special type of Australian wire and stainless steel on the release of nickel and chromium ions. Methods: Thirty special type Australian wires and 30 stainless steel wires were used in this study, each of which weighed 0.12 grams. The wires were immersed for 1, 7, 28, 35, 42, and 49 days in artificial saliva with a normal pH. The release of ions in saliva was examined using Atomic Absorption spectrophotometry. Results: The result indicated that the release of nickel ions on special type of Australian wire was larger than that on stainless steel wire (p<0.005), there were differences in the release of the amount of nickel ions on special type of Australia in different immersion time, and there was a correlation between the types of wire and immersion time. Nickel ions released from the special type of Australian wire detected on the 7th day of immersion and reached its peak on the 35th day, while from stainless steel wire were detected on the 49th day of immersion. The released of chromium ions from the special type of Australian wire and stainless steel wire were not detected until the 49th day of immersion. Conclusion: The release of nickel ions were highest on the 35th day of immersion in special type of Australian wire and they were detected on the 49th day in stainless steel wire. The release of chromium ions were not detected until 49th day of immersion in special type of Australian and stainless steel wire.Latar belakang: Perawatan ortodonti cekat memerlukan beberapa macam kawat untuk menghasilkan kekuatan biomekanika yang sesuai dalam menggerakkan gigi. Pemakaian kawat ortodonti di dalam mulut dapat bereaksi dengan saliva sehingga menyebabkan terjadinya pelepasan ion nikel dan kromium. Tujuan: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti pengaruh waktu perendaman dalam saliva buatan terhadap pelepasan ion nikel dan kromium antara kawat Australia tipe spesial dengan kawat stainless steel. Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan 30 buah kawat Australia tipe spesial dan 30 buah kawat stainless steel dengan berat tiap kawat 0,12 gram. Kawat direndam selama 1, 7, 28, 35, 42 dan 49 hari dalam saliva buatan pH normal. Pemeriksaan pelepasan ion pada saliva menggunakan spektrofotometri serapan Atom. Hasil: Pelepasan ion nikel pada kawat Australia tipe spesial lebih besar dibandingkan dengan kawat stainless steel, terdapat perbedaan pelepasan jumlah ion nikel pada kawat Australia tipe spesial antara waktu perendaman dan terdapat interaksi antara jenis kawat dengan waktu perendaman. Ion nikel yang terlepas pada kawat Australia tipe spesial mulai terdeteksi pada hari ke-7 perendaman dan mencapai jumlah tertinggi pada hari ke-35 sedangkan pada kawat stainless steel mulai terdeteksi pada perendaman hari ke-49. Pelepasan ion kromium pada kawat Australia tipe spesial dan kawat stainless steel tidak terdeteksi sampai perendaman hari ke-49. Simpulan: Pelepasan ion nikel pada kawat Australia tipe special terdeteksi paling tinggi pada lama perendaman hari ke tiga puluh lima, kawat stainless steel terdeteksi pada lama perendaman hari ke empat puluh sembilan. Pelepasan ion kromium pada kawat Australia tipe special dan stainless steel tidak terdeteksi sampai lama perendaman hari ke empat puluh sembilan.

Abstract

The aim of the study was to investigate the influence of protein deficiency on osteoblast and osteoclast cells activity on Sprague Dawley rats model alveolar bone. The study was carried out on 10 Spraque Dawley rats, divided in 2 groups. The first group was fed by died 4% protein after weaning period until animals aged 56 days. The other group was fed by standard diet. Osteoblas and osteoclast cells activity were counted by histological analysis. The result of the study from one-way Anova showed the significant differences (p&lt;0,05) osteoblasts and osteoclasts activity between the protein deficiency group and the standard group.

Abstract

The growth and development of bone play an important role in orthodontics, where bone calcification can be used the estimate bone maturity for diagnosis and treatment planning. Nutritional status during pregnancy and infant period will influence the growth and development of bone. Calcium diet is an important factor determining optimal calcification during bone growth and development stages. The purpose of this study was to investigate the possibility to restore calcium and phosphorus in bone after pre- and postnatal calcium deficiency. Three groups of Rattusnorvegicus rats were used in the experiments. The first group was the control group with standard diet, the second was infant group with pre- and postnatal calcium deficiency, and the third group consisted of young rats at weaning age with pre- and postnatal calcium deficiency but supplemented with enough calcium in the diet. Bone calcification stages were analyzed 1) histologically by measuring epiphyseal width on right femur, 2) by measuring calcium and phosphorus concentration on left femur with spectrophotomethry, atomic absorbtion and UV spectroscopy. The data were analyzed by one way Anova and t testing. The results showed that there were significant differences in the epiphyseal width and in calcium and phophorus concentrations between all three groups (p&lt;0.01). It was concluded that bone calcification damage because of pre- and postnatal calcium deficiency was an irreversible process. Calcium supplement after bone calcification could not restore the condition.

Abstract

The accuracy of nutrition quantity during and after pregnancy is needed for supporting division, differentiation and replication of cells during growth stage. Protein is needed to obtain optimally childs body growth and development including tooth. The study was aimed to deteremine the effects of pre and postnatal protein deficiency on tooth mineralization rats model. The study was carried out on 30 Rates norvegicus rats, divided in 3 groups.The first group was fed the protein deficient diet (4%) during pre and postnatal period, the second was fed the protein deficient diet (4%) only postnatal and the third was fed the postnatal diet. Feeding was carried out until animales aged at 56 days. After that, animals were sacrificed and the width of right mandibular molar prevention layer was histologically analyzed to know the number of tooth mineralization. The result of the study showed significant differences (p&lt;0.05) in width of prevention layer between standard and experimental groups. Its concluded that pre and postnatal protein deficiency were inhibits tooth mineralization.

Abstract

The knowledge of the growth and development factors in orthodontics is needed because skeletal manipulations are often done in orthodontic treatment. Because of that, knowledge and understanding of the concept of physiological growth by age especially in the face is needed, apart from growth and development of the teeth. The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of pre and postnatal calcium deficiency on the density of teeth. Density of teeth was measured by calcium and phosphorus concentration and right incisivus maxilla weight. The study was carried on 30 Rattus norvegicus rats, divided in 3 groups. The first group was fed by a diet without calcium postnatal, the second group was fed by a diet without pre and postnatal calcium, and the third group was fed by standard diet. The concentration of calcium was measured by AAS (Atomic absorption spectrophotometric analysis), the right incisivus maxilla was measured in milligrams, and phosphorus concentration by ultraviolet spectrophotometry. The results of the study showed a significant difference (p&lt;0,01), in calcium and phosphorus concentration and right incisivus maxilla weight between the non calcium fed postnatal, pre-postnatal and the standard groups.

Abstract

Maloklusi Angle Klas II divisi I dapat disertai dengan crowding, open bite dan deep bite. Tujuan perawatan adalah untuk mengoreksi crowding, open bite anterior, diastemata rahang bawah, memperoleh overjet dan overbite normal, serta hubungan oklusal yang stabil. Pasien laki-laki berumur 19 tahun, dengan keluhan gigi-gigi rahang atas berjejal dan maju sehingga sulit menutup mulut, serta gigi-gigi rahang bawah renggang. Pasien didiagnosis Maloklusi Angle klas II divisi I dengan hubungan skeletal klas II disetai open bite, crowding dan protrusif gigi-gigi anterior rahang atas,  diastemata gigi-gigi rahang bawah, molar pertama bawah kanan dan kiri telah dicabut, dan impaksi gigi kaninus kanan bawah. Perawatan menggunakan teknik Begg yang diawali dengan pencabutan kedua gigi premolar pertama rahang atas. Tahap pertama perawatan menggunakan multiloop arch wire 0,014” dan elastik intermaksiler klas II. Kesimpulan dari hasil perawatan setelah 16 bulan, crowding dan open bite anterior terkoreksi, diastemata menutup, dan pasien sudah tidak kesulitan dalam menutup mulut. Pasien masih dalam tahap  penyelesaian perawatan.

Abstract

Penentuan rencana perawatan ortodontik dengan pencabutan atau tanpa pencabutan masih menjadi perdebatan, terutama pada kasus borderline.Perawatan ortodontik dengan atau tanpa pencabutan dapat mempengaruhi profil wajah.Perubahan pada penampilan wajah terjadi akibat adanya perubahan posisi gigi anterior yang dapat mempengaruhi perubahan profil jaringan lunak wajah terutama pada daerah bibir.Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui perbandingan perubahan profil bibir dan posisi gigi insisivus pada kasus borderline klas I antara perawatan dengan pencabutan 4 premolar kedua dan tanpa pencabutan. Penelitian dilakukan pada 28 sefalogram lateral kasus borderline klas I  yang dirawat dengan teknik straight wire, terdiri dari 2 kelompok (13 kasus dengan pencabutan dan 15 kasus tanpa pencabutan).Masing-masing sefalogram dilakukan pengukuran profil bibir,yaitu jarak bibir atas dan bawah terhadapVertical Reference Plane (VRP) dan sudut interlabial; serta posisi gigi insisivus, yaitu jarak gigi insisivus atas dan bawah terhadap Vertical Reference Plane (VRP), sebelum dan sesudah perawatan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pada tahap awal perawatan kedua kelompok memiliki karakteristik profil bibir dan posisi gigi insisivus yang sama (p&gt;0,05). Terdapat perbedaan bermakna (p&lt;0,05) pada perubahan posisi bibir, sudut interlabial, dan posisi gigi insisivus antara kelompok yang dirawat dengan pencabutan dan tanpa pencabutan setelah perawatan ortodontik. Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah profil bibir dan posisi gigi insisivus pada kasus borderline klas I yang dirawat dengan pencabutan 4 premolar kedua menjadi lebih retrusif daripada profil bibir dan posisi gigi insisivus kasus borderline klas I yang dirawat tanpa pencabutan.ABSTRACT, Lips Profile And Incisivus Position In Class Iborder Line Cases With Or Wthout Extraction. Determining whether an orthodontic treatment plan should be with or without extraction is still debatable, particularly for borderline cases. In fact, such a treatment could affect the facial profile. The change in facial appearance is caused by the reposition of anterior teeth which could cause facial soft tissue profile changes, particularly at the lips area. The aim of this study is to compare the changes of lips profile and incisors position in class I borderline cases which have been treated with extraction of 4 second premolars and non-extraction.The study was conducted on 28 lateral cephalograms of class I borderline cases which have been treated with straight wire technique, as divided into two groups (13 extraction and 15 non-extraction cases). Each cephalograms had measured on lips profile, which was the distance of upper and lower lips to Vertical Reference Plane (VRP) and interlabial angle; and the position of incisors, which was the distance of upper and lower incisors to Vertical Reference Plane (VRP), at pre and post-treatment. The results of this study have shown that at the initial treatment, lips profile and incisors position for both groups have similar characteristics (p&gt;0,05). There are significant differences (p&lt;0.05) on lips position, interlabial angle, and incisors position changes between the extraction and non- extractiion cases after orthodontic treatment. From this study, it can be concluded that lips profile and incisors position in class I borderline cases treated with the extraction of second bicuspid are more retruded than that of non-extraction cases

Abstract

Gigi kaninus berperan penting dalam kestabilan serta perkembangan bentuk lengkung gigi, fungsi oklusi dan kesimetrisan profil wajah. Kaninus maksila walaupun ektopik dalam perencanaan perawatan ortodontik biasanya keberadaannya tetap dipertahankan, sehingga perlu dikoreksi. Koreksi kaninus maksila ektopik membutuhkan gaya untuk mengekstrusi sekaligus distalisasi gigi tersebut. Tekukan L loop pada   wire dapat memberikan gaya ke arah vertikal - horisontal pada gigi secara bersamaan. Perawatan ortodontik dengan alat cekat teknik Begg dapat mengkoreksi malposisi gigi dengan gaya yang ringan  tanpa membutuhkan waktu lama pada tahap I. Tujuan. memaparkan hasil perawatan kaninus maksila ektopik dengan L loop pada alat cekat teknik Begg. Perempuan 28 th mengeluhkan gigi-giginya berjejal dan gingsul  sehingga mengganggu penampilan dan mengurangi rasa percaya diri. Diagnosis: Maloklusi Angle Klas I tipe skeletal klas II dengan retrognatik bimaksiler, bidental protrusif, shalow bite  dan midline mandibula bergeser ke kanan 1 mm disertai crossbite, openbite serta malposisi gigi. Penanganan dilakukan menggunakan alat cekat teknik Begg dengan pencabutan 4 gigi premolar pertama. L loop pada wire dibuat untuk koreksi kaninus maksila ektopik pada tahap I perawatan Kesimpulan dari hasil perawatan menunjukkan perbaikan malrelasi, gigi berjejal, overjet dan overbite. L loop pada alat cekat teknik Begg dapat digunakan untuk mengkoreksi kaninus maksila ektopik dengan gaya yang ringan. Maj Ked Gi; Desember 2013; 20(2): 208-216.

Abstract

Kesimpulan dari hasil perawatan setelah 16 bulan, crowding dan open bite anterior terkoreksi, diastemata menutup, dan pasien sudah tidak kesulitan dalam menutup mulut. Pasien masih dalam tahap  penyelesaian perawatan.
