Abstract

Bengkalis Island is one of the areas with high diversity of durian (Durio zibethinus Murr.). This research was aimed to analyze the diversity of  durian cultivars of Bengkalis Island. It was conducted from April up to August 2010. The morphological data were analysed using NTSYS-pc 2.02 and minitab 14.13 softwares. Genetic similarity value among 36 accesions ranged from 0,28 (between BT 14, BT 15 and SB6) to 0,66 (between BT6 and BT7). The cluster analysis showed that durian diversity from Bengkalis island was 34-58% or had similarity level 42-66% and formed 7 main groups. However, they were ungroupped depend on their growth areas. Based on PCA (Principal Components Analysis) value, durian diversity was 99,7% and formed 6 groups.  Furthermore, the result of pearson correlation analysis among 77 character showed that 10 characters were positively correlated and 4 characters were negatively correlated.

Abstract

Cempedak (Artocarpus champaden Lour.) is one of the special fruits in Southeast Asia which is the prima donna of the community. In the province of Riau, cempedak found in many areas of Kampar regency. This study aims to identify the types of cempedak that exist in Kampar regency. Based on the results of the research, cempedak is categorized into four cultivars ie cempedak pulp cultivars, cempedak forest cultivars, cempedak langkat cultivars and cempedak nangkadak cultivars, from four cempedak cultivars found, Nempadak cempedak cultivars and Langkat cultivars are the most superior cempedak cultivars because they have fruits big, lots of content, thick meat and sweet taste.

Abstract

Abstract

Obat pahit has been generally known and believed by Lingga Malay society as anti-aging agent. However, the study of Obat pahit is not scientifically proven. This research was aimed to prove immunomodulatory ability of Obat pahit potion from Lingga, Riau Archipelago. This study used white rats as an animal modelling, and Staphylococcus aureus as bacteria tester. The rats had been treated with aqueous Obat pahit extract from three TMPs on dose scales of 0.09, 0.18 and 0.27 mL/200g of body weight through oral administration for 7 days. Furthermore, on the 8th days, the experiment animals were injected by the preparation of bacteria tester through intraperitoneal administration in the amount of 0.5 mL/200 gram of body weigth and subsequently incubated for 1 hour after the injection. There were 2 observed parameters on this study, i.e efectivity and capacity of phagocytosis by leukocytes. The observation of leukocytes-phagocytocis activity was carried out by making a smear preparat samples of peritoneum fluid from rats. After the observation under microscope on a magnification of 100 times. The result was obtained the Obat pahit from Kalan PMT swere more effective on dose 2, while from SP4 and Linau TMPs were much more effective on dose 1. It is therefore, using these data of the results, the advanced doses scale of this Obat pahit would not be necessary. Obat pahit potion from Malay Lingga Malay Ethnic could become raw materials of immunomodulatory herbal medicine based on traditional knowledge. It also potentially as a standardized herbal.

Abstract

Obat Pahit is a potion that has been long commonly consumed by Lingga Malay society for generations as stamina keeper. The most dominant plants found in the packaging of the Obat Pahit were namely Bauhunia semibifida, Cnestis palala and Penawa Root (3 species). This research aimed to investigate and determine activity of antioxidant contents in Obat Pahit from five Traditional Medicine Practitioners (TMPs) in the district of Lingga. The tested samples were mashed then being soaked into 2 types of solvent: distilled water and methanol, containing HCl 1%. DPPH method was also used in this research. Quantitatively antioxidant activity test of Obat Pahit from the five TMPs by using methanol solvent had extremely highest activity compared to the distilled water solvent. The test, using TLC plate by spraying the extract from three dominant plants with 0.1 mM of DPPH solution, produced a pale-yellow spots at a wavelength of 366 nm. On the other hand, the test using HPLC at wavelengths of 230 nm and 280 nm showed the presence of two dominant secondary metabolites contents: flavonoid and phenolic. IC50 (ppm) of Bauhinia semibifida (6.6247), Penawa Root (5.0124) and Cnestis palala (5.9968) were much lower than IC50 of mangosteens rind (41.7675), vitamin C (6.6612) and Stimuno drug (8.333). This antioxidant analysis has not been reported previously. This proof contributed greatly to uncovering potentially native natural resources as an indigenous Indonesian drug which is expected to decrease dependence on imported drugs especially imunomodulator, antihypertensive, antidiabet etc. This research would be beneficial and excellent manifestation for the development of natural antioxidant-based medicines from traditional knowledge of Indonesias local ethnicities.

Abstract

Nanas Bongsai (Ananas comosus var. microstachys L.) is an amazing herb which is used in traditional medicine by local people of Muara Lembu district as a potion to reduce pain while menstruation period for a women. The present work was designed to investigate its probable side effects on the histopathologic changes in limph and uterus tissues after treated with A. comosus var. microstachys L extract in female white rats. This is an experimental research consisted of five treatments and three repetitions. Treatment composed of two controls (P0 and P+) and given Nanas Bongsai extract with three different dosages. Histology result of lymph show that all treatments given with Nanas Bongsai with three different dosages have different diameter average of white pulp and there is no significant changes with normal control. While observation towards histology structure of endometrium thickness with dosage P1, dosage P2, dosage P3 is 206.333±33.486; 215.667±33.486; 197.667±60.871 respectively. The most thin endometrium layer found in treatment with dosage P3 compared to control P0. From this study showed that there is no toxic effect on uterus and lymph function of of Nanas Bonsai (A. comosus var. microstachys L.) at different doses, so the plant is secure for consumption by the community.

Abstract

Lingga Island is the center of the Malay kingdom of Kepulauan Riau Province with local wisdom that is still ingrained in the community. Obat pahit is a decoction of linguistic stew of ethnic lingga community which is believed to be a youthful remedy and maintain stamina. This study aims to find histopathologic changes of liver white mice after the decoction of herb concoction of Obat pahit. The percentage of intercellular damage was nonexistent from the normal control group and positive control but different from the negative control group. Different types of medicinal herbs with different dosage levels. But the damage is still in the normal, accessible category that has no toxic effects from bitter herbs on liver organ

Abstract

Tembilahan merupakan salah satu sentra produksi manggis (Garcinia mangostana) di Provinsi Riau. Ciri khas manggis Tembilahan adalah mampu beradaptasi pada zona pasang surut air laut dan waktu berbunga pertama yang cepat. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengidentifikasi keanekaragaman manggis Tembilahan dan hubungan kekerabatannya berdasarkan karakter morfologi dan agronomi. Penelitian dilakukan pada Juni 2015 sampai Januari 2016 dengan metode eksplorasi. Karakter morfologi dari 50 individu diamati, dideskripsikan dan diskoring. Skoring dianalisis menggunakan software NTSYSpc2,02. Berdasarkan pengamatan dari 51 karakter morfologi manggis diperoleh dua kultivar manggis yaitu kultivar lokal dan kultivar hutan. Koefisien kemiripan yang diperoleh berkisar 0,16 dan 0,82. Dendrogram dengan nilai koefisien kemiripan 0,41 sampai 0,82 terbentuk dua kelompok utama yaitu kelompok pertama terdiri dari 30 individu kultivar lokal dan kelompok dua terdiri dari 20 individu kultivar hutan.

Abstract

Ekosostem hutan mangrove merupakan sumberdaya alam yang mempunyai nilai penting pada berbagai aspek kehidupan dan jasa lingkungan. Semakin meluasnya kerusakan pada ekosistem ini diduga telah menurunkan berbagai fungsi dan manfaatnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan karakteristik tegakan hutan mangrove, menghitung nilai manfaat secara ekonomi sumberdaya ekosistem mangrove dan mengetahui potensi tumbuhan mangrove sebagai obat. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Desa Kampung Baru, Kecamatan Concong, Indragiri Hilir pada bulan Februari hingga Maret 2015. Teknik pengumpulan data yang dilakukan dengan cara observasi wawancara dengan 30 responden dan pengamatan vegetasi mangrove dengan membuat lima plot dengan masing-masing plot berukuran 10x10 untuk pohon dan 5x5 m untuk pancang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan vegetasi mangrove didominasi oleh Rhizophora apiculata (INP) sebesar 278,02 jenis Bruguiera gymnorhiza (INP) sebesar 21,98. Nilai manfaat langsung ekosistem mangrove adalah Rp703.497.000 per tahun, diperoleh dari perhitungan nilai manfaat sebagai bahan dasar arang, pucuk, kepiting, ikan dan udang. Diperoleh 6 jenis tumbuhan mangrove yang digunakan oleh masyarakat sebagai obat, diantaranya Avicenia alba, Acanthus ilicifolius, Nypa fruticans, Sonneratia caseolaris, Acrostichum aureum dan Rhizopora apiculata, yang digunakan untuk mengobati demam, bisul, gatal, gigitan serangga, kudis dan lain-lain.
