Abstract

The aims of this research were to determine the effectiveness of waste water processing in reducing content of phenol in RSUDZA. Research was conducted from June to September 2009. This research used 2 locations sampling which consist the tub before processing (inlet) and after processing (outlet), then data taken in 10 repetition consecutive days. The observed parameter ware phenol content and parameter like pH, BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand), COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) dan TSS (Total Suspendid Solid) content. Data were analyzed by using paired t test (P<0,05). The result show that fenol content were significant different before and after the processing. Phenol content decreased from 32% to 96.4%. Phenol content (0.020 mg/L) outlet had fulfilled the quality standard already established. These refer as judged effective values the pH parameters show that there were increasing. The result also show that not only phenol content decrease but also BOD, COD and TSS content.

Abstract

Kitosan memiliki sifat antibakteri sehingga dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan pengawet ikan. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Laboratorium Mikrobiologi Universitas Syiah Kuala, Banda Aceh dari bulan Mei sampai Agustus 2012, untuk mengisolasi dan mengkarakterisasi  bakteri pada ikan kembung (Rastrelliger sp.) asin berkitosan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini deskriptif. Dari hasil isolasi didapat enam isolat yang memiliki morfologi koloni dan sel yang berbeda. Isolat yang memiliki bentuk bundar (50%), elevasi cembung (33,3%), tepian licin (50%) warna kuning (66,7%), sel bakteri gram positif (66,7%), bentuk sel bulat (100%), tidak berspora (66,7%) dan bersifat motil (66,7%).

Abstract

Abstract. Probiotics bacteria are beneficial microbes to improve microbial balance in the digestive tract. The objective of the research was to isolate and characterize of potential probiotic bacteria in mackerel fish (Rastrelliger sp.). The research was done from April to August 2012 at Laboratory of Microbiology Syiah Kuala University, Banda Aceh. Isolation and characterization used dilution and scratches quadrant methods. The result showed that there were five potential isolates of probiotic bacteria varied morphological colony and cell. The isolate have circular form (100%), entire margin (80%), flat (60%), cream color (40%), gram positive bacteria (80%), coccus shape (100%) and non motile (60%).Keywords: Probiotics, Rastrelliger sp., isolation, digestive and characterization

Abstract

Probiotik merupakan mikroba menguntungkan yang bermanfaat untuk memperbaiki keseimbangan mikroba di dalam saluran pencernaan. Isolasi bakteri probotik dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mendapatkan bakteri yang berpotensi sebagai probiotik pada ikan kembung (Rastrelliger sp.). Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat lima isolat bakteri yang berpotensi sebagai probiotik. Hasil uji fisiologis untuk identifikasi bakteri menunjukkan adanya tiga genera (Micrococcus, Staphylococcus dan Bacillus) dan satu spesies bakteri (Hafnia alvei) yang berpotensi sebagai probiotik pada ikan kembung (Rastrelliger sp.).

Abstract

This research studied the application of chitosan on salted mackerel (Rastrelliger sp.) preservation during storage at room temperature. The research is aimed to study the effect chitosan concentration and storage time for Total Plate Count (TPC). The study was conducted in Laboratory of Microbiology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Syiah Kuala University from April to August 2012. The research method was laboratory experimental.  The data was analyzed by Randomized Completely Design with two factorial. The first factor was chitosan concentration (three levels: 0%; 1%; 2%) while the second factor was storage time (four levels: 0; 2; 4; 8 weeks). The results of this study indicated that chitosan concentration was not significantly different for the Total Plate Count (p>0,05), however storage time was significantly for the Total Plate Count (p<0,05). Futhermore, the interaction chitosan concentration and storage time was significantly for the Total Plate Count (p<0,05).

Abstract

The research was conducted to determine the quality of the kanji pedah by counting total number and percentage of Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus niger. It had been done since March from to October 2010 in Microbiology Laboratory of Biology Departement FMIPA Unsyiah. Kanji pedah as the sample was taken from Meunasah Mesjid Syamtalira village, Aron Subs-district of North Aceh. This research used sample from variety storage time groups range 3-7 days; 5-7 months; 9-12 months; and 15-18 months. Data were analyzed in descriptive and compared with the quality standard from Directorate General of National Agency of Drug and Food Control (Dirjen BPOM RI). The result showed the entire sample had fungi with ranged 1.45-63.7x102. The amount of fungi exceeds the quality standard already established by the National Agency of Drug and Food Control No. 05018/KBPOM/2001: 50 colony/g. Also Aspergillus flavus was found with range from 3%-27% meanwhile Aspergillus niger was found with range from 21,1%-40,9%.

Abstract

(Characterization Of Lactit Acid Bacteria Indegenous From Jruek Drien, Aceh ProvinceABSTRACT. Jruek drien is traditional fermented Durian. The purpose of this research was to obtain Lactic acid bacteria indigenous from jruek drien for development potential probiotic. The research was conducted at Laboratory of Microbiology, Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematic and Natural Science of Syiah Kuala University from Februari – Juny 2015. Sample was taken from Aceh Jaya Regency, Aceh Barat Regency, Aceh Barat Daya Regency, Nagan Raya Regency dan Aceh Selatan Regency. The results showed that there are 9 Lactic acid bacteria indigenous isolate from jruek drien.

Abstract

This study was undertaken to investigate soil Actinomycetes from grand forest park of Pocut Meurah Intan as well as to evaluate their potential to produce antimicrobial compounds. The study was conducted in Laboratory of Microbiology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Syiah Kuala University from February to July 2012. The research was carried out by using an explorative method with laboratorial evaluation. Three different soil samples were taken from a depth of 10-20 cm below the soil surface and isolated on YM agar medium. During the investigation, 24 isolates were recovered and exhibited various morphological characteristics. The results of the antimicrobial assay showed that 14 isolates (58.33%) were active against one or more of the test organisms. Among the 14 active isolates, one isolate (7.14%) showed antibacterial activity; 9 isolates (64.29%) showed antifungal activity; and 4 isolates (28.57%)  exhibited a broad-spectrum activity against both of the test bacteria and fungi. The inhibitory activity were also varied, ranged from weak (<5 mm), moderate (5-19 mm), to strong (>20 mm).  The highest antimicrobial activity was presented by ATH-17 against Candida albicans (34.50 mm), while the lowest was exhibited by ATH-15 against Escherichia coli (0.20 mm).

Abstract

Tsunami devastated many water infrastructures including the wells. Tsunami areas, land use (rural and urban areas) and land management (agriculture land and home garden) can be leading heavy metals in water quality. The purpose of this research is to investigate how the Tsunami rehabilitation efforts affected the water quality of shallow groundwater by measuring the count of heavy metals (mercury, cadmium and lead by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer during the rainy and dry season. Forty-eight water samples’ of wells were collected to determine shallow groundwater from August 2007 to December 2007. The study includes interviews with the owners of the water facilities and sanitary inspection of shallow groundwater wells. The results show the presence Hg and most of Cd in well water are still below the regulatory acceptable limit by Ministry of Health R.I (2002). On the other hand, lead exceeds the regulatory acceptable limit

Abstract

Three intestinal bacteria isolates (namely C1, C2, and C3) from common carp (Cyprinus carpio) were isolated and identified as new potential probiotics. This research aimed to study the effect of three isolates potential probiotics addition on growth performance, survival rate and feed efficiency of common carp. Completely randomized design was assigned to fourth diet treatments with five replicates. As a control, we used the feed without any supplemention of potential probiotic. The result showed that the addition of potential probiotic bacteria (C1, C2, and C3) gave significant effect on daily growth rate, survival rate and feed efficiency and could be used in aquaculture industry to reduce feeding cost.
