Abstract

Typhoid fever prevalent in low socioeconomic areas and sanitation and personal hygiene of the population does not meet the health requirements. Recorded Incident Rate typhoid fever in Indonesia is 500/100.000 population between 0.6 to 5% mortality. Ngaliyan Public Health Center ranks number 2 most cases of typhoid fever during the year 2011 in the city of Semarang. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between the quality of facilities and infrastructure, homes and health behaviors with the incidence of typhoid fever in the Working Area of Ngaliyan Public Health Center, Semarang. Type of research is a study using the observational method with a case control study design. The sample was aged over 15 years in 6 villages of working area of Ngaliyan public health center, amounting to 33 case group and 33 control group. The sampling technique used was simple random sampling. Statistical analysis using chi square test. Based on the statistical test is known that there is a relationship of quality toilet facilities (p = 0.034), hand washing behavior (p = 0.007), no relationship between the bacterium E. coli (p = 0.473), waste management (p = 0.706), SPAL quality (p = 0.443), storage of food and beverages (p = 0.509) with the incidence of typhoid fever in working area of Ngaliyan public health center. From these results it can be concluded that the factors associated with the incidence of typhoid fever in the working area of  Ngaliyan Public Health Center is a quality toilet facilities and hand washing behavior.
