Abstract

The purpose of this study was to discover the potential of isolate chitinolitic bacteria, hot springs, as biological control of Aedes aegypti L. larva. This research used Completed Randomized Designed (RAL) factorial with two factor, isolate types and concentration of isolatechitinolitic bacteria. The research procedure includes the maintenances of Aedes aegypti L. larva, isolation and selection of chitinolitic bacteria, and biological test. Data were processed by using Varian Analysis (ANAVA). The result of this study indicated that four isolates were test on larva of Aedes aegypti L. masquito, instar II. Giving different isolat chitinolitic bacteria and concentration showed no significant differences in larva death (P>0,05). The highest average of larva death was exhibited at the treatments of 1% of IS 2 and IS 3 isolate. The occurance of chitinolitic bacteria influenced the growth of pupa, it can be showed that the pupa was not formed from each consentration and isolate that caused the death in larva signed by the part of body and larva siphon were pale and digestive tract was dark.

Abstract

The research about the trial of mosquitoes as the vector of filariasis which are endemic area of filariasis in three area district of Pidie have been done from August until Desember 2007. The aim of this research is to determinate and to know how the spesies of mosquitoes becoming the vector of filariasis in the endemic area in three area district of Pidie. The research was used the exploration methods and the taking of sample was done purposively. The result of the research was founded the larva in mosquito’s body, with the infection rate is 0,91%, and based on the result of identification that have been done, the mosquito is Culex quinquefasciatus. The result catching is also founded five kind of mosquitoes that have been reported as the natural vector of filariasis that are Culex annulirostris, Aedes aegypti, Anopheles subpictus, Anopheles barbirostris, and Anopheles vagus.

Abstract

The research is aimed to isolate and observe the morphology of chitinolitic bakteria. The research was conducted since November 2010 until Apryl 2011 at Microbiology Laboratory ofMathematics and Sciences Faculty, University of Syiah Kuala. The method used is experimental method. Locations of water sample taken are at sea, river, and embankment which taken in some areas around Banda Aceh and Aceh Besar. The results showed that there are 18 pure cultuated chitinolitic bacteria isolates. And the results of morphologycal bakteria colony showed that all isolates were circle shape colony. It was found that the flat shape of colony is 14 isolates and 4 serrated. The sizes of colony were found from 1,0 mm until 3,5 mm. The white isolate are 13 and 5 yellowish. The most of isolates are negative gram which bacil and coccus cell shape.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to evaluate the change of Aedes aegypti L. and Culex spp. larvae morphology effected by chitinolitic bacteria as larvacide. This research was conducted in Microbiology Laboratory, Faculty of Math and Natural Science, University of Syiah Kuala. The sample was taken from several areas in Banda Aceh and Aceh Besar. The isolation was accomplished by plating 1 ml of sample water on chitin agar medium and incubating for 48–72 hours in 30 °C temperature. In the experimental method, three concentrations of chitinolitic bacteria (0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 ml) in 7 days observation were used as a treatment. The research resulted in 6 isolates having the potential to be developed firther as chitinolitic bacteria. The result shows that chitinolitic bacteria degrades exosceleton of second instar larvae of Aedes aegypti and Culex spp. Degradation of exoskeleton started on the 4th days and occurred at the thorax region. All exoskeleton from both species are completely broken on day six.Key words: Aedes aegypti L. larvae, Culex spp., chitinolitic bacteria

Abstract

The Ovoposition Preference of Papilio demoleus L. (Lepidoptera: Papilionidae) on the Species of Citrus (Citrus spp.)ABSTRACT. This research about the oviposition preference of Papilio demoleus Linnaeus on three species of citrus (Citrus spp.) has been done in butterflies encagement in FMIPA Syiah Kuala University Darussalam, Banda Aceh from April to July 2003. This research used experimental method by completely randomized design with three treatment and four replication. The treatment are jeruk siem (Citrus nobilis Lour), jeruk kasturi (Citrus milis Blanco), and jeruk nipis (Citrus aurantifolia Swingle). The observation was held from 8 o’clock until 16 o’clock for the number of eggs laying to each species of citrus. The result shown that the number of eggs laying indicate no significant on all species of citrus and between the number of eggs laying on the stem and another part around the host plant. A number of eggs laying under the surface of the leaves are more and significant from a number of eggs laying on the surface of the leaves. The eggs laying activity of P. demoleus started from 10 in the morning when the surrounding physical factor has supported for the butterflies to lay done its eggs. Activity get the point of culmination when observed at 12 o’clock.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menginventarisasi dan mengidentifikasi jenis lalat buah yang menyerang tiga jenis buah-buahan pekarangan yaitu belimbing segi (Averrhoa carambola L.), jambu air (Syzygium aqueum L.) dan jambu biji (Psidium guajava L.) di Kecamatan Kota Jantho. Pengambilan sampel buah dilakukan pada lima desa di Kecamatan Kota Jantho. Pemeliharaan dan identifikasi lalat buah dilakukan di Laboratorium Zoologi Fakultas Matematika dan Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam Universitas Syiah Kuala. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode survei eksploratif. Parameter yang diamati adalah jumlah jenis dan jumlah individu imago lalat buah. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil identifikasi menunjukkan terdapat tiga jenis lalat buah yang menyerang tiga jenis buah-buahan di Kecamatan Kota Jantho yaitu Bactrocera carambolae, B. albistrigata dan B. dorsalis dengan total individu sebanyak 1075 individu. B. carambolae mendominasi jumlah individu yang didapat yaitu sebanyak 494 individu (46%) namun hanya menyerang satu jenis buah yaitu belimbing segi. B. albistrigata menyerang dua jenis buah yaitu jambu air dan jambu biji dengan jumlah individu sebanyak 396 individu (37%) sedangkan B. dorsalis menyerang ketiga jenis buah yaitu belimbing segi, jambu air dan jambu biji dengan jumlah individu sebanyak 183 (17%).

Abstract

This research is about effectivity analysis of two kinds of fungi i.e. Beauveria bassiana and Metharrizium anisopliae as Aedes aegyptilarvacide, it has been conducted at laboratories Zoology in Biology Department, Mathematics and Natural Sciences Faculty, Syiah KualaUniversity. Aims of this research were estimating maximum time storage of fungi powder as effective larvacide and the number of bacteriacolonies were found in water used for experiment. This research was used Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The experiments consistof two factors i.e kind and saving time of fungi. The result show that the longer the storage time of Beauveria bassiana the more ineffectiveit was as larvacide and the least fungi colonies were found. Metharrizium anisopliae on the other hand, the longer it was kept, the moreeffective it was as larvacide and the more fungi colonies were found.
