Abstract

The tiltle of this study is Rltipiceplta/us sanguineus controls by vaccination. The vaccine used from crude adulttick extracts to vaccinated dogs, shccps and rabits. The experimental animals were inoculated subkutaneously, threetimes every two weeks with crude adult tick extracts and adjuvant. Fifteen days after the last inoculation all animalswere submitted to challenge infestation with unfed adult ticks. The dogs were placed in the severe contaminatedenvironment. The ticl.:s were placed inside a feeding chamber consisting of a plastic tube to the saved back of shccps.Ticks were placed for save behind the ear of rabbits. Observation was done 3 days after infestation. The results ofthis investigation were observed that most of ticks were recovered in dogs either vaccinated or non vaccinatedgroups, however on the control groups without vaccinated ticks the infestation were higher than vaccinated groupsas well as in the sheeps and rabbits. In the rabbits although ERCE value between vaccinated and non vaccinatedgroups not significants statistically, there were demonstrated that ERCE value in the vaccinated groups lower thancontrol groups without vaccinated. According to our investigation we can concluded the usc of tick antigen couldinduced resistance by direct immunisation. Adult ticks of Rltipicepltalus sanguineus crude extract tends to induceresistance in rabbits, sheeps and dogs with different level of resistance. The immunity seems not to be acquiredduring a natural exposure tends to evolved with crude adult tick extracts vaccinations. Keywords: resistance, rhipicephalus, sanguincus, vaccination

Abstract

The use of cultivation system in vitro is very important in the future study of Babesia canis. Theaim of this study was to cultivate B. canis in vitro using RPMI media with different concentration of dogsera. B. canis infected erythrocytes were collected from splenectomized infected dog. Parasites werecultivated with RPMI 1640 medium supplemented with normal dog sera at the concentration of 10%, 20%and 40%, the culture were then incubated in 5% CO2 , 37oC temperature for 17 days and subcultured every48 hours. The Percentage of Parasitized Erythrocytes (PPE) in culture with 10% dog serum was significantlylower than those 20%, and 40% The used of 20% and 40 % sera were better than 10%. It is recommendedthat 40 % serum can be used for initiation phase of cultivation, whereas 20% concentration were used formaintenance of the culture.

Abstract

Prevalence of heart disease in dogs was very high and required early diagnosis through physical examination, electrocardiogram, and echocardiography. Normal reference values of echocardiography are highly breedspecific and need for comparison and evaluation of dogs suspected with heart disease. Therefore the aim of this study was to establish normal reference echocardiographic values for Indonesian mongrel dogs, specifically to find out intracardiac dimensions, wall thickness, and fractional shortening. Motion-mode and two-dimensional echocardiography from right parasternal short axis and long axis view were performed on nine clinically healthy dogs consisting of five males and four males. The results showed that wall thickness and fractional shortening of Indonesia mongrel dogs were higher compared with those in the other breed that have the same average weight. As opposite, the intracardiac dimensions and lumen dimensions of aorta and left atrial diameter were smaller. These differences might occur due to factors other than the dog’s habits and functions such as working and hunting, but can also be caused by the existence of breed differences. There was no significant difference between male and female dogs in terms of intracardiac dimension systole (P = 0.53), diastole (P = 0.38), fractional shortening (P = 0.053), and the ratio of aorta and left atrial diameter (P = 0.06).

Abstract

The patients : 5 cats, came to “Klinik Hewan Cimanggu”, complains from the clients were includinglistlessness, anorexia, diarrhea, and constipation. From the Physical examination they showed a palemucous membrane, hyperaemic on sclera, larger of cranial abdominal . Laboratory finding on bloodssmear showed blood parasites in red cells that suspected as Babesia sp. One of them concurrently withhaemobartonella sp infections. The general result of blood laboratory test showed anemia andthrombocytopenia. Its treated by clindamycin (10 mg/Kg BW) and multivitamin twice a day for 3 weeksand parasitemia level in 1000 red cell was count before treated. Reexamination of smear red cell wasdone during and after treatment. In general they had demonstrated the decrease of parasitemia level. Some of them didn’t showed any changes of parasitemia level, however they showed morphological changesthat indicate inactive condition of parasites. The decrease of parasitemia level or the morphologicalchanges of parasites indicates that the development of parasitemia level has been depressed, so theclinical signs decreased and the animal’s condition improved. It believed that clindamycin inhibits proteinsynthesization in ribosome causing the damage to the parasite, but it will not eliminate the parasitesrapidly from peripheral blood. The Clindamycin treatment on cats with babesiosis will not induct the sideeffects .

Abstract

The objective of this experiment was to detect antibody (IgG) against enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC)K99 in the blood of cows vaccinated by Escherichia coli polyvalent vaccine. Eight dry cows were injectedsubcutaneously by polyvalent Escherichia coli twice prior to parturition. Before vaccinated, the cows were givenimmunomodulator orally for 3 days. Blood samples were drawn from coccigeal vein prior to the 1st vaccination, two week following the 1st vaccination and at 1, 2, and 4 weeks after the 2nd vaccination. Blood samples wereanalyzed for IgG and ETEC K99 using indirect Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) assay. Results of theexperiment indicated that absorbance values of all vaccinated cows before the first vaccination until third weekfollowing the 2nd vaccination were below cut off values. The absorbance values then increased and were above cutoff values at fourth week following the 2nd vaccination. In conclusion, antibody against ETEC K99, were detected inthe blood of cows, fourth week following the 2nd vaccination. Keywords: cattle, colostrum, enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli, IgG

Abstract

The objective of this experiment was to determine the effects of zinc supplementation on health status in dairy calves. Nine Frisian Holstein (FH) at 6-10 months of age were used in this experiment and divided into three groups. First group (no added Zn) for control, the second group was added 60 ppm Zn, and the third group was added 120 ppm Zn. Zn was administered daily for three months. Blood samples were collected from the jugular vein and anticoagulated with EDTA. Whole blood were used for measuring erythrocytes, hemoglobin concentration, hematocrit value, total leukocyte count, and leukocyte cell types. The results showed that no difference among groups for hematological parameters and the value of hematology were in the range values references. In conclusion, 60 and 120 ppm Zn supplementation in the feed is relatively safe for health. Keywords: dairy calves, erythrocyte, leukocyte, Zn mineral

Abstract

Bulls are expected to be able to produce a good quality and quantity of sperm. The objective of this experiment was to study the effect of Zn supplementation on the sperm quality, in Frisian holstein bulls. Ten bulls, 1618 months of age were used in this experiment. The experimental bulls were divided into two groups, i.e.,group without Zn supplementation (control) and group with 60 ppm of Zn supplementation. Zn supplementations were given everyday for a period of four months. Semen was collected by using artificial vaginaat the end of the experiment. Semen quality was evaluated macroscopically and microscopically. The variables measured were semen volume, semen pH, sperm motility, sperm concentration, sperm viability, and sperm abnormality. The results showed that Zn supplementation significantly increased sperm motility and sperm concentration (P<0.05), whereas there was no significant difference in other parameters.
