Abstract

Main objective of this research was to identify dominant factors, which determined management system of Repong Damar (SPRD). SPRD was strategically complex and dynamic. Through system approach with SWOT analysis, AHP and Liker Scale, this research identified its dominant factors. Dominant factors, which determined SPRD goals, are land suitability, ecosystem functions, biodiversity, household economy insurance, trading practice and investment inputs. Furthermore, SPRD sustainability was supported by inheritance institution, indigenous knowledge’s, and ownership, which constitute social status symbol. Development strategy of SPRD was determined by community organizations strength and self-resilience, availability of road infrastructure, and law enforcement on farmers rights.

Abstract

The exploitation of pine people forest in Tana Toraja has just begun since pine wood manufacturing industry opened in 2002. In 2004, the activity of this manufacture was stopped as some local people protested the activity. They assumed that the exploitation and manufacturing would cause negative effect, as the stand value could be much higher than benefits of the industry. In 2006, Tana Toraja Regency Government allowed the exploitation of the pine tree and offered the investors who were interested to invest their capital in the exploitation. The exploitation certainly needed a strategy based on accurate and comprehensive data.  The aim of this research was to arrange a strategy of pine people forest exploitation which could give both economy and ecology benefits. This research used financial analysis, SWOT analysis, and Analytical Hierarchy Process.  The result of the analyses indicated that the strategy could be best applied was strength-threat (ST) by increasing the role of farmer organization, conducting agroforestry pattern development in order to increase land productivity, applying proper regulating area for planting and harvesting, and assuring the exploitation of tongkonan area. Study on Impact of Agroforestry Model to the Growth of Teak (Tectona grandis L.F) Plants

Abstract

The objective of this research was to learn effect of agroforestry pattern on the growth of teak crops and the other crops. The research was conducted for 1 year in teak forest stand (1 years old) with site quality index (bonita) was 3.5. Experimental design with 10 observations per block.Blocks in this research were agroforestry pattern 1 (intercropping during the whole cycle of the main crop) and agroforestry pattern 2 (temporary intercropping). There were 2 treatments: (1) litters of corn crops were put on rows of teak crops and no fertilizers were added,(2) fertilizers were added, but litters of corn crops were taken away, and (3) fertilizers were added, and litters of corn crops were put on rows of teak crops. Area size of each observation plat was 0.05 ha. Analysis of variance on the average increament of total height of teak crop and production of dry kernel (corn seeds which had been detached from corn cob) that showed significant results were further analyzed by the use of Duncan Least Significant Difference Test. Conclusions of this research were: (1) agroforestry pattern 1 had greater effect as compared to agroforestry pattern 2 on the growth of total height of teak crop, (2) agroforestry pattern 1 had greater effect as compared to agroforestry pattern 2 on the production increase of dry corn kernels.Keywords: agroforestry, intercropping, analysis of variance, total height, production

Abstract

The striving of nature silk in Kabupaten Sukabumi keeps decreasing whereas, market opportunity and potential for nature is good, for this time being. For knowing development strategic of striving nature silk correctly, it need to be done an aprroachment system of replacement SWOT analysis  (strategis analysis) and ISM (interpretative Structural Modelling) technique (structural analysis). This research will identify internal and external factor and produce structural models. The most powerful factor that influence the striving of nature silk is nature condition (climate, soil and topography).  The weakness factor are limited capital and access.  As opportunity element factor and treatment of cocoon needs still high and germ and disease of murbei leaves also silk worm. Prosperity of nature silk worm influence a lot of society sector especially farmer.  In way to make it success needs very qualified human resources, an expert on this work and good management.  Hoped with fulfilled need, will solved a lot of obstructions one of them is limited capital and access.  The purpose of this program as good as possible is for increasing nature silk work.  Involved all sorts of institution to realize this aim will be need, one of them is Forestry Department which will decide fact in striving of nature silk. Abstract

Candlenut tree is one of the multipurpose tree   species because almost all parts of the plant can be utilized. The candlenut trees grow and are distributed  in all provinces of Indonesia. Tanah Pinem in Dairi Regency is one of the candlenut-producer area. The objectives of this study were to learn and describe the management of candlenut  tree in Tanah Pinem Subdistrict. The research was conducted with survey method by collecting data in the field. Primary data  were   obtained through structured interviews, while secondary data were obtained from relevant institutions and previous researches. The data were analyzed and described to learn how the community manage the candlenut tree and the condition at that time. The results showed that the candlenut tree is one of the plants that are beneficial because it can be a source of income for the community and play a role in safeguarding the environmental conditions of Tanah Pinem subdistrict. However, the management of candlenut tree was not intensive. Area size and production of candlenut tree tended to decrease each year. About 90% of Tanah Pinem subdistrict topography are steep and very steep, and it is necessary to replant the land with trees such as candlenut to protect the land from erosion and landslide hazards.Keywords: candlenut, community, management, production, multi purposes  tree  species

Abstract

Previous study found thar Jarak pagar  has potency for fuel break in forest fire control. There are some requirements for vegetation to be fuel break. One of the requirement as fuel break is decomposition race in which the higher decomposition rate may be suitable for fuel break in order to prevent surface fuel accumulation. A study was conducted to analyze decomposition rate of Jarak pagar in the field. Some sample plots were established in forest plantation area of Gunung Hambalang Bogor managed by Perhutani under agroforestry system. The study revealed that Jarak Pagar in the study area has higher decomposition rate when compared to other tree sppecies. Therefore, Jarak Pagar meet the requirement for fuel break from decomposition rate point of view.

Abstract

The need for teak wood processing in Indonesia is still high both for domestic demand and export wood demand. But the shortage of teak wood demand can give opportunities for people to cultivate teak on their privately land. The purpose of this research is to examine the main plant growth of teak (Tectona grandis Linn F.) in small scale private forest and compare it with teak’s growth from monoculture forest at Perum Perhutani KPH Sumedang in same ages. The main data of plant dimensional were taken with census method from teak plants in each of the selected land such as height, canopy diameter and canopy projection. In this research, soil parameter observed consist of physical and chemical content of soil  samples  from  each  selected  land  then  analyzed  in  laboratory.  Crown  closure  data  taken  by  using  a  spiracle     densiometer. The history of land management known by interview with farmers in each selected land. Those data were analyzed descriptively.            The results showed that the observed forest have 3 (three) different age classes of teak plantation. They are teak plant with  class  age  of  3  years,  6  years,  and  12  years  whom  the  growth  of  teak  are  different  in  those  parameter  such  as diameter, height, crown closure and basal area. Growth of teak plantation in the village of Babakan Asem is a plant with  the best teak growth among the other villages. Their growth maybe influenced by several factors, that is  the condition of the site or soil condition factors and cultivation activities. The result of crown closure show that the majority of sunlight blocked  by  the  crop  canopy  of  teak,  so  less  than  40%  of  sunlight  can  reach  the  soil  surface.  That  condition  maybe affected by size crop of teak and the distance between teak plantation it self. The result of soil analysis indicated that  physical and chemical soil content in Conggeang District are impact on teak growth which bulk density, water storage, KTK, pH, and other chemical substance are related to teak diameter’s  growth.             Growth  of  teak  plantation  between  small  scale  private forest  and  Perum  Perhutani  were  significantly different  in class  ages of  3 and 12 years  and didn’t  different  at  class ages of  6 years  in diameter.  The difference in  teak growth between  small  scale  private  forest  and  Perum  Perhutani  are  caused  by  a  factor  of  using  teak  seed  and  the  forest management.

Abstract

Light Intensity, Temperature, Humidity and Rooting System of Mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla King.) in RPH Babakan Madang, BKPH Bogor, KPH BogorPlanting space in agroforestry system was one of important tree rooting was one of important factor that determine tree rooting. It was caused by the relation between planting space and light availability that could penetrate into main plant canopy and space availability for rooting. One of commonly used plant in agroforestry was mahogany which has deep rooting system and has a single main root thus could be combined with shallow rooting system plants as its understory. This research was supposed to know the light intensity, temperature and humidity in mahogany stands and to know the length and depth of mahogany horizontal root as a reference to determine suitable crop plants for that rooting condition. Observed parameters in this research were light intensity, crown coverage percentage, temperature, humidity, and length and depth of mahogany horizontal root. Research results show that light intensity value in young mahogany stands was 24.62% and in old mahogany stands was 19.17%, while crown coverage percentage in those two stands was respectively 36.50% and 84.38%. Value of that light intensity wasn’t compared caused of its different time in data collecting. Temperature in sample plot in young mahogany stands and the old ones was 28,53o C and 28,07o C, while its humidity was 75.12% and 75.23%, respectively. Length of horizontal root in young mahogany stands and the old ones was 0.68 m and 1.68 m, while its horizontal depth was 9.95 cm and 12.58 cm, respectively. Other observed parameter was tree dimension (diameter, height, and crown area), that supposed to know the growth quality of observed mahogany. Research results show that mahogany stands could be combined together with crop plant if it seen from light intensity, temperature and humidity aspects. Higher crown coverage along with the increasing of main plant (mahogany trees) has to be combined with suitable and high economic value crop plant. Some recommended crop plant for young mahogany stands are ginger and pandan, while for old mahogany stands were tuberous plant and kapulaga.

Abstract

This research has aims to learn the contribution of Repong Damar to regional economic and income distribution. The data for research consists of primary and secondary data. The secondary data is collected for the analysis of regional economic, and the primary data is used to calculate the income distribution. The analysis of regional economic with Location Quotient (LQ), and Gini Index is used to analysis the income distribution. The result showed that damar sector had become base activities and had positive economic growth at West Lampung . The value of Gini Index is 0.356 for South Pesisir District, 0.300 for Central Pesisir District, and 0.526 for North Pesisir District. The value of Gini Index for Pesisir Krui Region is 0.394. This value shows that Repong Damar had main contributed on income distribution in Pesisir Krui Region.

Abstract

Jabon (A. cadamba (Roxb.) Miq.) is one of forestry plants that be developed widely nowadays in planted forest or public forest. Jabon included in fast growing species with straight and cilindris stem. It can make Jabon is very intrested for raw material of wood industry. However rapid development of jabon have not been followed with land usage with agroforestry system. Land usage with agroforestry system with appropiate pattern can increase economical revenue and also can realize conservation activity of soil and water below the stand. setting of good planting pattern is affected by root system of plants. It is related with competition of nutrient absorption between main plant and agricultural plant. Beside that, root system also affect crown growth that continually affect on sun light availability, temperature, and humidityfor agricultural plants. This research aims to examine the length and depth of lateral root of jabon on mixture pattern and monocultural pattern. benefit of this research is for giving reference of agricultural species that is appropiate with root condition. The result showed that root system on mixture pattern has longerand deeper root than root on monocultural system. Setting of appropiate planting spaces between main plant with agricultural plant is very needed for avoiding nutrient copetition, water, and light.
