Abstract

In Indonesia, avocado leaves have been used as traditional medicines for diureticum to cure urolithiasis. This research was to determine anti lithiasis activity of avocado leaves (Persea americana Mill) extract on white male rats nefrolithiasis model induced by ethylene glycol. Ethanol extraction method was used to get extract of avogadro leaves. Twenty adult male white rats were divided into 4 different induction treatments i.e. aquadest, ethylene glycol 0.75% and ammonium chloride 2%, and extract of avocado leaves with different levels of 100 and 300 mg/kg bw respectively. Their body weight was measured daily to determine their growth ratio. And at the end of the trial, the kidney was analyzed its calcium level and inhibitory activity to formation of calcium oxalate crystals. The results showed that the amount of calcium level in the kidney of rats treated with extract of avogadro leaves was significantly decreased than that of rats treated with ethylene glycol 0.75% and ammonium chloride 2% (P < 0.05). The extract avocado leaves as a herbal remedy can be recommended as a phytotherapeutic agent especially for preventive action for urolithiasis diseases.

Abstract

Suplemen as imunomodulator used to increase immune response, to prevent disease. Herb and Zinc (Zn) can function as imunostimulan. The aim of this experiment was (1) to studythe effect of Zn mineral and herb combination influence the healthy condition, performance and immunity responses, 2) to have blood biochemistry and organ function in broiler who given zinc mineral and herb combination, 3) to know the effectivity of herb and Zn to be treated by Colibacillosis condition One hundred broiler were used in this research, divided by 5 groups: RO (control), R1 (RO + 2.5% garlic powder+ 1.5% turmeric powder), R2 (R0+2.5% garlic powder+ZnO 120ppm), R3 (R0+1.5% turmeric powder+ZnO 120ppm), R4 (R0+2.5% garlic powder +1,5% turmeric powder and ZnO 120ppm). The parameters in this research are the erythrocyte count, hemoglobin, andpack cell volume and total leucocyte. Blood biochemistry are investigate protein total, albumin, alanine aminotransferase (AL T), aspartat aminotransferase (AST), creatinin and ureum. The research showed that the erythrocyte count, hemoglobin, and pack cell and blood biochemistry in normal value, that explain safety for organ function and health group showing health status and performance is good, tested in ability to attack Colibasilosis. The result of research show and hematologi in normal, The age of chicken was 3 weeks, all of groups were treated by innoculum of Eschericia coli (E. col!) bacteria with 108 CFU.mr1 doses per-ons. The parameter was based on performance, health condition, and immunity responses. The activity and the capacityof phagositosis for assessments immunity respons, the result showed to decerease the performance and healthy condition at the first week infection, then converse to improve at the second week. The amount of leucocyt cell, especially heterophyl cell was increased at 1 week after infection as being indicated by the appearance of innoculum E. coli bacteria. The amount of leaucocyt cell was decreased directly after 2 weeks post infection at the group that was fed by turmeric-Zn (P1) and gave antibiotic (K+) drug. This condition showed that the body defence fastly to eliminate the infected agent which was supported by increasing phagocyitosis capacity (327±111 bacteria) and phagocyitosis activity 97%±10%, was compared with the control group (without drug) activity value 85±15% and phagocytosis capacity (176±118 bacteria). Feeding by turmeric-Zn combinationshowed better result which was compared to Garlic-Zn combination and the ability to increase healthy condition,performance and immunuity responses Keywords : Garlic, herbal, imunomodulator, phagocytosis, turmeric, zinc.

Abstract

Tumor or neuplasm can be meant as a abnormal and uncontrol growth of the transformation tissue or the change of one or main location of the body. This degenerative desease is one of the deseases in the animal pet especially dog and cat. Generaly this tumor deseases can be used with therapy using surgery and usually will relapse after six months. from our previous research had succeded to examp by using activity in vitro antiproliverati from extract plant (nusa indah, blustru and temu putih) combined with recombinanct interferon dog ( rCaiFN). The above phenomenon indicate a new hope to make a therapy for tumor desease, especially for dog and cat and may be in the future can be used for human. In this research we used 21 female rabbits and divided into 7 treatment groups, consisted of 3 rabits ie : group A. negative control; B. surgery, preventive andcurative curcumine; C. positive control; D. positive control and surgery; E. surgery and preventive zedoaria capsul; F. surgery , preventive and curative zedoaria capsule and G. surgery and curative zedoaria capsule . Induction with carcinogen (MNU) treated every weeks during 3 weeks. Surgery is executed in the 5 weeks and giving capsule zedoaria is executed every day for 4 weeks (preventive or curative) and 8 weeks (preventive andcurative). Result of the research indicated that mammae tumor has been made successfully by MNU (n-metil-nnitrosuria)induction to rabit and capsule zedoaria and it has been treated by doing surgery therapy (mastectomy and ovariohisterectomy). Also decombination of zedoaria capsule. The result of the research indicated lindrance of tumorgenesis to the group which is given by zedoaria capsule. from the clinical picture shows that zedoaria capsule does not give negative effect to clinical picture (temperature, respiratory frequency and heart rate)/ stillnormal to all the groups. Tumor induction with (MNO) at mammary gland will occur allegic reaction inflammatory which is the beginning of tumor mechanism which is marked by total leucosit, neutrofil, eosinofil, and basofil increase. Tumor therapy with surgery (masektomi and ovariohisterektomi) and the combination with rimpang Temu Putih capsule can decrease the number of leucosit, neutrofil and limfosit but only a little affectmonosit number, although statistically it does not show real difference.

Abstract

Nephrolithiasis is one of urologic disease due to crystallization urine in urinary system. Traditionally,avocado leaves has long been used for the treatment of nephrolithiasis because flavonoid in this plant canfacilitate the watering of crushing stone in the urinary tract. The aims of this study was to determine theeffect of aethyl acetate fraction of avocado leaves on ureum and creatinine level. Twenty white male rats(Sprague dawley, weight 200-300g) were divided into four groups. Normal control group (A) was givenaquadest ad libitum. Negative control group (B) and treatments group (C and D) were given ethyleneglycol 0.75% and ammonium chloride 2% to induce the formation of calcium oxalate crystal. Group C andD were given aethyl acetate fraction with different levels (100mg/kg bb and 300mg/kg bb for fourteen days).Blood samples were taken before and after treatment. The result showed that aethyl acetate fractioncould not decrease serum blood level of ureum and creatinine. Serum blood level ureum and creatinine ingroup D increased significantly compared to group A, B, C after fourteen days treatment. The used ofethylene glycol caused acute tubular necrosis. It therefore appears that ethyl acetate solvent was not ableto extract flavonoids to prevent renal dysfunction.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the activity of Ambon banana extract in gel formulation on thewound healing process of mice skin (Mus musculus albinus) based on gross and microscopic observations.The wound healing process were observe grossly everyday while the microscopic lesion was observed on the3rd, 5th, 7th, 14th and 21st days after skin incisition. The wounded skin were sampled after the mice wereeuthanized for further microscopic observation. The gross parameters were the existence of blood coagulation,scab formation, wound covering and wound size. The microscopic parameters observed the percentation ofwound reepitelization and the the tickness of wound connective tissues (fibroblast). Gross lesion and thefibroblast thickness were presented descriptively as a qualitative data. Grossly, it was observed that thescab formation was faster in mice treated with the extract of ambon banana than that of negative control.Based on the research the ambon banana extrack in gel can be used in the acceleratiof wound healing.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of ethanol turmeric extract ointment in woundhealing process of streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice. Ethyl acetate and hexane fractions of ethanolturmeric extract were studied for their wound-healing properties in the formulation of ointment. Sixty micewere divided into 4 groups : group I was control (normal control, without treatment); group II was diabeticgroup (diabetic, without treatment); group III was diabetic and treated with ethyl acetate fraction ointment,group IV was diabetic and treated with hexane fraction ointment. The diabetic groups were i.p injectedwith 40mg/kg of streptozotocin and all groups were received incision 2 cm on their back skin. The ointmentsof ethyl acetate and hexane fraction were given topically twice a day. Three mice from each groups werenecropsied at 2nd, 4th, 7th, 14th and 21st days post incision (pi) for gross pathological and histopathologicalevaluation of the injured skin. Gross examination revealed that the ethyl acetate and hexane fractionointment groups showed better result on wound-healing process compared to the diabetic group.Microscopically, the ethyl acetate and hexane fraction ointment groups showed faster neovascularizationand reepithelialization compared to the diabetic group. In comparison with the diabetic group, the ethylacetate and hexane fraction ointment groups showed fewer neutrophils infiltration which indicated antiinflammatory activities of ethyl acetate and hexane fractions. Based on the macroscopic and microscopicobservation, the ointments of ethyl acetate and hexane fraction have properties to promote wound healingin diabetic mice.

Abstract

Traditional remedies generally use plant based therapies for treatments. The availability of plantfor treatments is relatively abundant in Indonesia, whether as treatments for diabetic wounds or antiinflammation. Curcuma longa Linn has been reported as an alternative treatment for several diseasesincluding wound healing. The aim of this study was to investigate the possible effect on wound healing ofethyl acetate of C.longa gel in skin hyperglycemic mice. The ethyl acetate of C.longa gel was evaluated toassess its healing efficiency on excision wound. Thirty mice were used in this study. The mice were dividedinto three groups i.e.: KN as a negative control (without treatment), KP as a positive control (Neomycinsulfate), and treated groups (GE= ethyl acetate gel). There was a significant effect on histopathologicalcharacteristics in wound healing of treated mice with ethyl acetate gel compared with KN mice. It seemthat C.longa gel is a potential for phyto-therapeutic agent in management of wound healing.

Abstract

This experiment was carried out to determine the mouse lethal dose (MLD50 of ethanolic extract ofthe turmeric (Curcuma longa) rhizomes following single oral administration and to evaluate thetoxicopathologic effects of the extract in certain organs ie stomach, liver and kidney. Forty five male micewere divided into nine groups. Four groups were treated orally with ethyl acetate fraction, four groups weretreated orally with hexane fraction of ethanolic turmeric extract, and one group was used as control. Theethyl acetate fraction groups were administered orally with the ethyl acetate fraction at doses of 7.5, 1.5,30 and 60 g/kg body weight. The hexane fraction groups were administered orally with the hexane fractionwith the dosage of 7,5, 15, 30 and 60 g/kg body weight. The control group received normal saline. MLD50 ofethyl acetate fraction was 27,98 gram/kg body weight by per oral administration. Oral MLD50 of hexanefraction was 19,50 gram/kg body weight. Histopathological features of the ethyl acetate and hexanefractions groups showed increased amount of parietal cells in stomach and parenchymal degeneration andnecrosis in their liver and kidney.

Abstract

Curcuma longa (turmeric) is one of the tropical plant belong to Zingiberaceae family. It has beneficialeffects in healing of variety diseases. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of  atopical gel formulation of n-hexane fraction of Curcuma longa in the wound healing of hyperglycemic mice.A total of 30 hyperglycemic mice were divided into three groups. They were given topical application, NC asa negative control (gel base), PC as a positive control (Neomycine sulfate 5%), treated groups (HF = n-hexane gel). Histopathological examination of the skin was performed to evaluate the wound healing.  Theresult showed that, there were no changes on tha appearance of the gel preparation, physically.  Evethoughupon the pH determination of the gel at six month of storage at 40ºC there were significant difference.  Theeffect of n-hexane gel, in terms of decreasing the surface area of wound and histopathological characteristicswere significantly (p &lt;0.05) different between the PC group and HF group.  Skin irritant test showedneither rashes, swelling, inflammation, redness, irritation, itching nor any other toxicity  symptoms followingapplication of the gel. Significant effect of n hexane fraction of C. longa gel on wounds without any adversedermal toxic effects sounds very promising and it may be employed in the management of diabetic wound.

Abstract

Tingginya tingkat keterulangan kasus urolitiasis baik pada hewan maupun manusia, menuntut penelitian dalam mencari solusi menurukan angka keterulangan. Penelitian urolitiasis membutuhkan hewan model urolitiasis yang sesuai dengan kondisi sebenarnya. Salah satu metode yang digunakan adalah menciptakan kondisi hiperoksaluria. Penggunaan induksi etilen glikol menjadi metode yang paling umum digunakan. Induksi ini menghasilkan kristal kalsium oksalat monohidrat.
