Abstract

The objective of the present study was to evaluate the impact of dietary supplementation of formic acid, butyric acid or their combination on carcass and meat characteristics of broiler chicks. A number of 288 day-old-chicks (Lohmann MB-202 meat broilers) were distributed to four groups, including CONT (basal diet with no additive as a control), FORM (basal diet containing 0.1% formic acid), BUTR (basal diet with 0.03% butyric acid) and FORM+BUTR (basal diet with 0.1% formic and 0.03% butyric acid). At day 35 the birds were slaughtered and eviscerated, and from which the breast meat was obtained. Carcass and cut yields of broilers were not different (P>0.05) among CONT, FORM and BUTR birds. The combination of formic and butyric acids increased (P<0.05) the relative weight of back of broilers. Meat pH value was higher (P<0.05) in organic acids treated than in non-treated birds. Organic acids lowered (P<0.05) drip loss of broiler meat. Butyric acid increased (P<0.05) moisture and decreased (P<0.05) the content of meat protein. Formic acid increased (P<0.05), whereas butyric acid and combination of formic and butyric acids decreased (P<0.05) lightness values of breast meat. Yellowness values of meat increased (P<0.05) with organic acid administration. Intense bands of 25 kDa (phosphoglycerate mutase) was observed in most of meat samples from the treated birds, but not in meat from the control birds. In conclusion, dietary supplementation of organic acids was capable of improving the meat quality of broiler meats. The treatments may prevent the pale, soft and exudative (PSE)-like condition in broiler meats.

Abstract

Rearing Pelung chicken in Indonesia, in general, uses a ration with a high proportion of rice bran, even up to 60%. Considering the high contents of fiber, lignin, and phytic acid, feeding a high portion of rice bran will decrease nutrient digestibility. This study was aimed to evaluate the effect of lime juice supplementation of a rice bran-based ration on the utilization of nutrients in male Pelung chicken. Sixty four of 12 weeks old male Pelung chickens were used in the present experiment and assigned into a completely randomized block design. The treatments were supplementation of the ration with lime juice at the levels of 0, 1, 2, and 3 mL/100 g. Parameters measured were feed and nutrients consumption, protein, fat, and fiber digestibilities, apparent metabolizable energy (AME), rate of passage, feed conversion ratio (FCR), and daily body weight gain. The results showed that  the supplementation of lime juice in the ration did not affect feed and nutrient consumption, but significantly (P<0.05) increased the digestibilities of protein, fat and fiber, AME, rate of passage, FCR and daily body weight gain. However, supplementation  of 2 or 3 mL lime juice in the ration resulted in similar values of AME, and protein, fat and fiber digestibilities, and both levels of supplementation produced better protein and fat digestibilities, and AME when compared to the other treatments. It could be concluded that supplementation of 3 mL lime juice in the ration increased the digestion processes in the gastrointestinal and increased daily weight gain of male Pelung chicken.

Abstract

The aimed of this study is to determine the effect of jeruk nipis juice (Citrus aurantifolia) as an acidifier against cholesterol, LDL, HDL and triglyceride in blood of broiler. The material that used was 90 DOC (day old chick) with an average weight of 38 ± 0.1 gram. The treatment consisted of T0 (water without the addition of Citrus aurantifolia juice), T1 (water added with 0.5% Citrus aurantifolia juice), and T2 (water added with 1% Citrus aurantifolia juice). This study used the completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 3 treatments with 6 replications, there were 18 units and each replication unit containing 5 broiler chickens. The Measures parameter are blood fat profiles consisting of cholesterol, LDL, HDL, and triglyceride levels. The results showed that the addition of jeruk nipis juice treatment did not give a significant effect on cholesterol, HDL, LDL, and triglyceride blood of broiler chickens. The conclusion of this study is the addition of jeruk nipis juice (Citrus aurantifolia) that added in drinking water is still maintaining the stability of blood lipid profile that seen from cholesterol, LDL, HDL and triglyceride blood of broiler chickens in a normal range.

Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan untuk menganalisis dan membandingkan peubah pertumbuhan antara Ayam Kedu jengger merah (AKJM) dan jengger hitam (AKJH) generasi ke-2 baik jantan maupun betina. Materi yang digunakan adalah Ayam Kedu generasi ke-2 (G2) yang baru menetas sebanyak 313 ekor, terdiri dari 154 ekor AKJH dan 159 ekor AKJM. Jumlah AKJH betina sebanyak 90 ekor dan jantan 64 ekor sedangkan AKJM betina sebanyak 83 ekor dan jantan 76 ekor. Data bobot badan setiap individu ayam diperoleh dari penimbangan 3 hari sekali sejak menetas sampai dengan umur 60 hari. Peubah pertumbuhan dianalisis dengan model Gompertz menggunakan paket program Statistical Analysis System v6.12. Peubah pertumbuhan yang telah diperoleh digunakan untuk menganalisis titik infleksi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa persamaan non linier AKJH jantan yaitu Y=1921,57exp(-4,14exp-0,02t), betina Y=1589,45exp(-3,88exp-0,02t), AKJM jantan Y=1880,71exp(-4,10exp-0,02t), betina Y=1480,52exp(-3,89 e-0,02t). Bobot badan dan umur pada titik infleksi AKJH jantan 882,151 g dan 62,400 hari, AKJH betina 729,68 g dan 58,242 hari, dan AKJM jantan 863,391 g dan 60,639 hari, AKJM betina 679,677 g dan 57,917 hari.

Abstract

The research was aimed to evaluate the inclusion effect of dahlia tubers inulin (DTI) combined with Lactobacillus sp. in dietary protein step down on villi development and growth of KUB chicken. The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design using 160 birds of one-day-old KUB chicks (body weight was 26.32±1.19 g) divided into 5 treatments with 4 replications. The treatment applied were: (1) P180S: ration with 18% protein with the addition of 1.2% DTI and 1.2 mL (108 cfu/mL) Lactobacillus sp. provided since one-day-old, (2) P15: ration with 15% protein without DTI and Lactobacillus addition and was given from 8-day old, (3) P18: ration with 18% protein without DTI and Lactobacillus addition and was given from 8-day old, (4) P15S: ration with 15% protein with the addition of 1.2% DTI and 1.2 mL Lactobacillus sp. offered from 8-day old, and (5) P18S: ration with 18% protein with the addition of 1.2% DTI and 1.2 mL Lactobacillus sp. offered from 8-day old. The experimental birds allocated in the treatments 2 to 5 were fed ration with 21% protein from hatching until 7-day old. Variables observed were the jejunal pH, total Coliform and lactic acid bacteria (LAB), villi height, protein digestibility, final body weight, and carcass percentage. Data were subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA), and followed by orthogonal contrast test. Orthogonal contrast test showed that feeding 18% dietary protein fortified with a combination of 1.2% inulin dahlia tuber and 1.2 mL Lactobacillus sp. given since one-day-old significantly (P&lt;0.05) affected the height of jejunal villi, protein digestibility, carcass percentage, final body weight, jejunal pH, and Coliform number. In conclusion, feeding 18% dietary protein fortified with a combination of 1.2% of inulin dahlia tuber and 1.2 mL of Lactobacillus sp. since one-day-old increases the height of the jejunum villi and growth of KUB chicken.

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to examine the supplementation effects of glucomannan extracted from a porang tuber (GEPT) on body resistance and growth performance of broiler chickens. A total number of 160 one-day-old broiler chickens with the average body weight of 42.39±0.58 g was kept for 35 days. The study was arranged in a completely randomized design with 5 treatments and 4 replications (8 birds each). The dietary treatments were T0= basal ration, T1= basal ration with the addition of 0.05% GEPT, T2= basal ration with the addition of 0.1% GEPT, T3= basal ration with the addition of 0.15% GEPT, and T4= basal ration with the addition of 0.2% GEPT. Parameters measured were the population of lactic acid bacteria (LAB), Coliform count, relative weight of lymphoid organs (bursa fabricius and spleen), heterophils-lymphocytes (H/L) ratio, body weight gain, feed consumption, feed conversion ratio, and mortality. Data were subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA) and continued with Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at 5% probability. The results showed that supplementation of the diets with GEPT significantly increased (P&lt;0.05) LAB population, decreased (P&lt;0.05) Coliform count in the jejunum and ileum, and H/L ratio, but did not affect the relative weight of lymphoid organs, and growth performance. In conclusion, diet added with 0.1% GEPT improved the balance of intestinal microflora and increased body resistance, without any negative effects on the lymphoid organs and growth performance of broiler chickens.

Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan untuk membandingkan pola pertumbuhan pada generasi ke-satu (G1) ayam kedu jengger merah (AKJM) dan jengger hitam (AKJH)jenis kelamin jantan dan betina selama 60 hari. Materi yang digunakan adalah G1 AKJM jantan 80 ekor, betina 96 ekor dan AKJH jantan 31 ekor, betina 30 ekor. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menimbang bobot ayam setiap 3 hari sekali dari umur 0 sampai 60 hari. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan model Gompertz pada program komputer Statistical Analysis System v6.12.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa hasil persamaan regresi model Gompertz pada AKJM jantan dan betina masing-masing adalah Y= 1.691,07 exp (-4,19 exp(0,02)t) dan Y= 1.013,04 exp (-3,70 exp(0,02)t), sedangkan pada AKJH jenis kelamin jantan dan betina masing-masing adalah Y= 1.939,27 exp (-4,18 exp(0,01)t) dan Y= 1.273,44 exp (-3,90 exp(0,02)t). Titik infleksi AKJM jantan terjadi pada bobot 622,11 g dan ti=69,23 hari, sedangkan pada betina adalah 372,68 g dan ti=54,57 hari, untuk AKJH jantan adalah 713,42 g dan ti=77,26 hari, sedangkan pada betina adalah 468,47 g dan ti=63,86 hari. Simpulan dari penelitian ini adalah model Gompertz lebih akurat digunakan pada AKJH betina berdasarkan nilai simpangan baku dan AIC yang dihasilkan.Kata Kunci: ayam kedu, jengger merah, jengger hitam, model Gompertz, titik infleksi.

Abstract

The purpose of the research was to study the effects of feeding inulin derived from Dahliavariabilis tuber powder and extract on the existence of intestinal microbes in crossbred native chickenstarter. Experimental animals were 280 unsex crossbred native chickens and powder and extract ofdahlia tuber as source of inulin, which were started to be fed on day 22. The present experiment wasassigned in a completely randomized design with 7 treatments and 4 replications (10 birds each). Thetreatments were: T0 (basal diet/BD), T1 (BD+0.4% powder form), T2 (BD+0.8% powder form), T3(BD+1.2% powder form), T4 (BD+0.39% extract form), T5 (BD+0.78% extract form), and T6(BD+1.17% extract form). Parameters measured were the number of Lactic acid bacteria (LAB),Escherichia coli, intestinal potential hydrogen (pH) (duodenal, jejunal and ileal), rate of passage anddaily body weight gain (DBWG). Data were subjected to ANOVA and followed by Duncan andpolynomial orthogonal test. The results indicated that feeding inulin derived from dahlia tuber powderand extract form significantly (P<0.05) increased LAB population and DBWG, but decreasedEscherichia coli number and intestinal pH, and slow the rate of passage. In conclusion, feeding inulin ofdahlia tuber powder was optimum at 0.9% but that of extract is linier until 1.17%.
