Abstract

This study aims to estimate the wealth and stability of traditional and intensive brackishwater pond waters through biological index calculation (diversity, uniformity and dominance of plankton) in traditional and intensive brackishwater pond waters of Probolinggo Regency, East Java Province. Sampling plankton and water from the site, considered to represent the diversity of plankton and water stability of traditional and intensive brackishwater pond. Plankton was collected using a plankton net no. 25, then preserved using 1% lugol solution. Measurement of water quality variables include temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen and pH, whereas the laboratory analyzes that Total Organic Matter (TOM), NO2, NO3, NH3, PO4, Total Suspended Solids (TSS), and Fe. Plankton identification using microscope and calculation with cell counting method. The results of analysis of plankton in intensive brackishwater pond waters are obtained as much as 23 genera consisting of 16 genera of phytoplankton were included into three classes, namely Bacillariophyceae as much as 5 genera, Cyanophyceae 3 genera, Dinophyceae and Chlorophyceae, each of the four genera, whereas zooplankton consisting of 7 genera are included into two classes, namely Crustaceae 6 genera and Rotatoria 1 genus. In traditional brackishwater pond earned as much as 13 genera consisting of 8 genera of phytoplankton were included into Bacillariophyceae 5 genera, Cyanophyceae 2 genera, and Dinophyceae 3 genera, whereas zooplankton consisting of three genera are included into class Crustaceae 2 genera and Rotatoria 1 genus. Plankton abundance in intensive brackishwater pond ranges 702 - 4269 ind./L, diversity index of 0.26 -2.38, uniformity index of 0.10 - 1.5, and dominance index of 0.02 - 0.68. In traditional brackishwater pond have an abundance of plankton range 134 - 776 ind./L, diversity index of 0.10 - 1.97, uniformity index of 0.08 - 1.0, and dominance index of 0.01 - 0.75. Traditional and intensive brackishwater pond waters condition still within the limits that can be tolerated by the culture organism. Based on the index value of biological, diversity of genus in the intensive brackishwater pond is relatively higher than traditional brackishwater pond and the community stability moderate, whereas traditional brackishwater pond unstable. On average, the uniformity of the genus in both  brackishwater ponds are relatively evenly and genus of plankton to dominate the others genus.

Abstract

This study was aimed to know  diversity and distributionof plankton in the brachkishwater pond of Tuban Regency, East Java Province.  Sampling of plankton was conducted in the intensive and extensive pond with to filter of  water sample of 100 L to be 100 mL used of plankton net number 25.  Parameters wich observed : amount of genera and individu of plankton, and index of plankton (diversity, an variability dan dominance).  The results showed that diversity of  plankton in intensive and extensive pond, each 13 and 11 genera and the distrbution  6,316 and 157 ind/L.  Stability condition of plankton in the intensive and extensive pond, both had an variability wich un constant, but had variability and dominance the constant.

Abstract

Sembilan Island waters is one of the catch fishery production centers in Bone Bay, South Sulawesi. It was informed that the capture has decreased since 1999, which might be caused by  coral reef damage although the damage precentage was still unknown. An observation on coral reef condition was conducted in the waters of Sembilan Island, South Sulawesi, on June and November 2000 using scuba diving set and under water writing tools. Monitoring of coral reef condition was conducted in 7 m depth up to 100 m length of shore line in seven stations employing a line intercept transect method. The data of coral reef were analysed by using dBase III and lifeform programs. The results showed that living coral around station I, III, and IV were generaly in good condition except in the stations V, VI and VII, which were in middle condition and in station II, which was in bad condition. The lifeform of coral reef in Sembilan Island were predominated by Acropora Branching (ACB), Nonacropora Branching (CB), Coreal Foliose (CF), and Coral Massive (CM) meanwhile other benthic fauna were predominated by Soft Coral (SF) and Sponge (SP).

Abstract

Water quality variable to affect the productivity of Pacific white shrimp (L. vannamei) in the brackishwater ponds. Therefore the aimed of this research to study the water quality variable  to  influent on the productivity of Pacific white shrimp (L. vannamei) in the brackishwater ponds. The research was conducted in the brackishwater ponds area that were in fish farming operation in the brackishwater ponds in the brackishwater ponds of Gresik Regency, East Java Province by conducting interviews with respondents to obtained primary data in the brackishwater ponds productivity through the submission of questionnaires, while the technical data of water quality variable were obtained by direct measurement in situ. As independent variable were water quality variables, namely: temperature, dissolved oxygen (DO), salinity, pH, total suspended solid (TSS), turbidity, nitrate, nitrite, phosphate, and total organic matter (TOM) while the dependent variable was  the productivity of Pacific white shrimp. Regression model selection “best” method was based on the backward. The results showed that productivity of Pacific white shrimp in the range from 133.3 to 3,000 kg / ha with an average of  690.38  kg / ha. Water quality variables that a have positive effect on the productivity of Pacific white shrimp  were nitrate and phosphate, while water quality variables have a negative effect on the productivity of Pacific white shrimp. were pH and TSS.

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to find out the distribution and abundance of macrozoobenthos in Kupang Bay and to evaluate the suitability of this water for mariculture activity in the future based on physical and chemical water properties. Samples were collected from 10 stations along shoreline of the bay. Water samples were collected by cammerer water sampler, while benthic organisms were collected by ekman dradge. Samples were transferred to laboratory to identify and analyze. The results showed that the diversity index of the macrozoobenthos was moderately stable, and there were 4 to 10 species found in each station of Kupang Bay. The species dominancy was ranged from 28-82%, and the most dominant was Nassarius pullus. The water quality indicated that the study site was suitable for mariculture activities. It leads to suggestion that for the seaweed and floating net cage culture should be located in the mouth of the bay, while for pearl culture should be located along channel between Semau and Timor Islands.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to know the condition of coral reef in Kulisusu Bay of Muna. Field observation with scuba diving apparatus was done in February 29th, 2000 located in 3 stations and within the depth of 3 to 10 m. Line intercept transect method was used along 100 m of plastic rope. The data of coral reef were analysed by using dBase III+ and Lifeform packet program. The result showed that coral reef condition in two stations were generally in good condition. Fair condition was observed only in station I. The life coral reef was dominated by hard coral Acropora, namely Acropora branching, Acropora Encrusting, Acropora Submassif, Acropora digitate, and Acropora tabulate. While non Acropora namely coral branching, coral encrusting, coral foliose, and coral massive, Milepora and Heliopora were found acrros the coral reef. On the other hand the most abudance benthic fauna were mainly dominated by sponge and soft coral.

Abstract

This study was conducted to find out location which was suitable for culture of grouper (Epinephelus sp.) in Pulau-Pulau Sembilan waters, Sinjai Regency, South Sulawesi. The primary data were collected from each study areas as grouper culture requirement i.e: coastal topography, from the high wave and current, water quality and biological parameters. Secondary data such as wheather, coastal fisheries production, tide probability, Indonesia earth surface map of Sinjai area scale of 1: 75,000, landsat imagery-7ETM digital product and navigation map scale 1: 200,000 were collected before the study. Thematic map of area, suitability as the main expected output of the study was made through spatial analysis and Geographical Information System (GIS). The site suitability for grouper culture in floating net cage was evaluated based on the physical oceanography as limited factors, where factors which influences to the grouper growth and survival were given highest value.The range of values was 0-1. The level of suitability at the value of 1-4, where 4 (100%) = S1 (most suitable), 3 (75-99%) = S2 (suitable), 2(50-74%) = S3 (fair suitable) and 1 (< 50%) = N (less suitable). The potential areas which were suitable for grouper culture in floating net cage development was 303.4 hectares.

Abstract

Penelitian ini memanfaatkan teknologi Sistem Informasi Geografi (SIG) untuk menentukan lokasi yang layak bagi pengembangan budidaya tambak di Kabupaten Lampung Selatan. Data sekunder yang diperoleh berupa data iklim, peta Rupa Bumi Indonesia kawasan Lampung Selatan skala 1:50.000, citra digital landsat-7 ETM+ dan peta batimetri skala 1:200.000. Data primer diperoleh dengan metode survai di lokasi penelitian yaitu kondisi kualitas perairan, kualitas air, dan pasang surut. Penentuan stasiun pengamatan dilakukan secara acak dan sistematik. Setiap lokasi pengambilan contoh ditentukan posisi koordinatnya dengan alat Global Positioning System (GPS). Data lapangan (fisika-kimia perairan), data sekunder, dan data citra satelit (Landsat ETM+) digital, dianalisis secara spasial dengan metode PATTERN menggunakan Sistem Informasi Geografi (SIG). Berdasarkan hasil survai dan evaluasi kelayakan budidaya tambak udang di wilayah pesisir Lampung Selatan seluas 4.052,3 ha. Pada umumnya yang memiliki tingkat kelayakan tinggi (1.223,1 ha), sedang (2.065,4 ha), dan rendah (763,8 ha) tersebar di wilayah pesisir Kecamatan Sragi, Ketapang, dan Panengahan, sedangkan sebagian kecil terdapat di Kecamatan Kalianda, Sidomulyo, dan Katibung, serta lokasi yang tidak layak berupa perbukitan, masing-masing dituangkan dalam peta prospektif skala 1:50.000.This research used GIS technique to find location suitable to develop sustainable brackishwater pond culture in South Lampung Regency. Secondary data such as weather data, Indonesia earth surface map of South Lampung area scale of 1:50,000, landsat-7ETM digital imagery, and navigation map scaled 1:200,000. Abstract

Salah satu lahan yang bisa dikembangkan untuk budi daya tambak adalah tanah sulfat masam. Di Indonesia potensinya cukup luas dan umumnya lahan semacam ini berada di kawasan pesisir. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui potensi kelayakan lahan tanah sulfat masam untuk pertambakan dan optimalisasi pemanfaatannya berdasarkan tingkat kesesuaian lahan dan daya dukung lingkungan. Penelitian dilakukan di Kabupaten Luwu Timur, Sulawesi Selatan. Metode penelitian dengan melakukan survai untuk mendapatkan data primer. Sedangkan data sekunder diperoleh dari instansi terkait dan peta yang diperlukan untuk proses analisis dengan Sistem Informasi Geografis (SIG). Analisis data melalui tumpang susun dari beberapa peta dan data primer pada setiap pengamatan dengan mempertimbangkan pembobotan dan skala penilaian untuk mendapatkan nilai skoring dalam menentukan kesesuaian lahan budi daya tambak. Hasil analisis kelayakan lahan untuk tambak didapatkan nilai potensi dan kelayakan seluas 5.617,9 ha yang terdiri atas 709,4 ha kelayakan tinggi; 3.947,7 ha kelayakan sedang; dan 960,7 ha kelayakan rendah.One of land that can be developed for brackish water aquaculture is acid sulfate soil. The potency of acid sulfate soil in Indonesia is relatively large and generally found in coastal area. The objectives of this research to know the potency and land suitability of acid sulfate soil for brackish water aquaculture and optimal utilization based on land suitability level and its carrying capacity. This research was conducted at Malili Sub District; East Luwu Regency, South Sulawesi. Surveys have been done collected primary data. while secondary data was obtained from related Institution and needed maps for Geographic Information System (GIS) analysis, with overlying maps and primary data in each station observation with considering and assessment scale value of determining land suitability for brackish water pond. The result of maps analysis had been obtained the potency and land suitability at Malili Sub district were 5,617.9 ha consisted of 709.4 ha (high suitability); 3,947.7 ha (moderate suitability); and 960.7 ha (low suitability).
