Abstract

In the last decade the use of pig as animal model for trining in laparoscopic surgery showed onincreased in Indonesia. The training for laparoscopy surgery involved cholecystectomy, ovariohysterctomy,hysterectomy, nefrectomy, spleenectomy, and cardiosurgery. The success of such training depends on themethod and the process as such as the proper used to handle the animal. The study was a retrospectivestudy over 2009-2010 laparoscopic training on 62 pigs. The objective of this study was to elucidate theprocedure of pig laparoscopic surgery, anesthesia methods, obstacle, and the solutions. Method ofanesthesia induction was performed by using combination of tiletamine-zolazepam (8 mg/kg bw), ketamineHCl (6 mg/kg bw), and xylazine HCl (2 mg/kg bw) /ZKX without premedication. Anesthetized pigs weremaintained with combination of ketamine HCl (5 mg/kg bw)-xylazine HCl (2 mg/kg bw) without anyanalgesic agent. Onset of ZKX induction induction was 3-5 minutes. Time of surgery varied from 40 to 120minutes, depend on surgery procedures. Heart beat and respiration rate per minute were remain stableduring surgery procedure, with observed at 68.4±12.1 and 41.3±14.1 respectively. The anesthetic methodused for Indonesian local pigs appeared to be suitable for laparoscopic surgery model for human.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pencitraan struktur jaringan penyusun organ reproduksi jantan pada domba ekor tipis (DET) melalui pencitraan B-Mode ultrasonografi. Penelitian ini menggunakan 3 ekor DET jantan dengan berat 14-16 kg berumur 10-12 bulan. Pencitraan ultrasonografi dilakukan secara langsung pada domba tanpa menggunakan anestesi atau sedasi. Transduser linear berfrekuensi 7,5-15 MHz digunakan untuk memeriksa organ reproduksi jantan meliputi preputium, penis, epididimis, dan testis. Pemeriksaan dilakukan secara melintang dan memanjang dalam proses pemindaian. Hasil yang didapat adalah struktur jaringan penyusun organ reproduksi jantan dapat terlihat jelas dengan ekogenitas yang bervariasi. Bagian organ juga dapat dibedakan melalui pencitraan ultrasonografi sesuai dengan bentuk struktur jaringan penyusun organ yang diamati.

Abstract

The examination of udder through a parameter such as parenchymal tissue (PAR) and mammary fat pads (MFP) can be used to evaluate health status and the development of mammary gland. This research was conducted to evaluate the PAR and MFP of Murrah (n=4) and Swamp (n=4) buffalo heifer calve udder using brightness-mode ultrasonography transcutaneously. Eight buffalo consisted of Murrah (n=4) and Swamp (n=4) buffalo aged of six months old reared at Indonesian Research Institute for Animal Production, Ciawi, Bogor were used this study. Ultrasonography imaging was performed on the udder nipple for the four quarters: left front, left back, right front, and right back. The ultrasonography image was evaluated and then assessed for score, echogenicity and PAR area on MFP. The results showed that sonogram PAR was aniconic to hypoechoic, while the MFP was hypoechoic to hyperechoic. Even though there was a variation in the four quarters of udder, Murrah buffalo calve had the highest (P>0.05) value of score, echogenicity, and PAR area compared to the Swamp buffalo.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to describe the sonographic appearance of abdominal wall at the left flank of laparotomy incision site in 11 mated Ettawah grade does. Brightness-mode ultrasound examination by using transducer with frequency of 5.0-6.0 MHz was conducted to grouping the does based on their pregnancy statuses. The incision site of the abdominal wall at left flank laparotomy was transcutaneous-scanned as long as 8 cm vertically. The sonographic appearance of the laparotomy wall thickness showed that in all groups of does were similar and not different statistically. The thickness of oblique external and oblique internal abdominal muscles increased in the pregnant does as compared to non-pregnant does (P<0.05).Key words: laparotomy, left flank, ultrasonography, incision site, Ettawah grade does

Abstract

Abstract

Pengukuran tekanan darah sistolik (TDS) dan saturasi oksigen (SpO2) merupakan salah satu cara pemantauan fungsi kardiovaskular untuk mengetahui resiko gangguan jantung. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengamati dinamika TDS dan SpO2 domba garut pada pagi dan siang hari dengan variasi suhu kandang. Penelitian ini menggunakan 4 ekor domba garut betina sehat, umur produktif dan tidak bunting. Suhu kandang dicatat sebelum memulai pengukuran TDS dan SpO2. Pengukuran TDS dan SpO2 menggunakan metode non-invasif ultrasonic Doppler flow detector dengan meletakkan flat probe pada medial distal carpus dan pediatric fingertip pulse oximetry yang dijepitkan ke telinga domba. Pengambilan data dilakukan pagi dan siang hari dengan 5 kali ulangan selama 20 menit pada menit ke 0, 5, 10, 15 dan 20. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan pengamatan suhu kandang pagi berkisar 28-29 oC dengan rataan nilai TDS 111,20 ± 3,95 mmHg dan SpO2 sebesar 96,5 ± 0,18%. Pada siang hari suhu kandang berkisar 32-35 oC dengan rataan nilai TDS 105,25 ± 2,24 mmHg dan SpO2 96,9 ± 0,22%. Rataan nilai TDS dan SpO2 menunjukkan tidak terdapat perbedaan yang nyata (p>0,05) antar waktu pengamatan. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini, variasi suhu kandang tidak mempengaruhi TDS dan SpO2 domba garut tetapi secara umum domba ini memiliki tingkat adaptasi kardiovaskular yang baik terhadap kondisi suhu lingkungan tropis.Kata kunci: tekanan darah sistolik, saturasi oksigen, domba garut, suhu kandang

Abstract

Pada studi kasus ini kami mendokumentasikan sebuah kasus prolapsus kantung pipi pada seekor hamster mini Campbell (Phodopus campbelli). Hamster mini Campbell datang dengan anamneses adanya sebuah massa di kiri mulut bagian dalam yang tampak menyembul keluar. Berdasarkan pemeriksaan klinis, hamster mengalami prolapsus kantung pipi dengan prognosa yang buruk. Terapi awal yang dilakukan berupa reposisi, akan tetapi terjadi prolaps kembali sehingga dilakukan amputasi pada kantung pipi yang mengalami prolap.

Abstract

This study aims to delineate the tissue structure of male cat external reproductive organs using ultrasound with different types of consoles and transducers frequencies through indirect method. External organ of 5 tom weighing 2-3 kg was evaluated using ultrasound with stationary console (linear transducer, 10 MHz) and portable console (linear transducer, 6.5 MHz), transcutaneously. The results showed that both console and transducer could not visualize the structure of organs sized less than 10 mm through direct method. However, the indirect method using stationary console with a 10 MHz transducer enable to visualize the organ and depicts clearly the internal organ structure such as penis and its parts, scrotum and its constituent layers, caput and cauda of epididymis, and testicles. Furthermore, portable console with 6.5 MHz transducer was still able to provide an adequate image of those organs. In general, fibrous tissues such as tunica vaginalis, tunica Dartos, funiculusspermaticus, and urethra were visible in ultrasonogram as hyperechoic structures, while soft tissues such as the parts of testicles and penis were visible as hypoechoic structures. Tissue containing fluid such as urethral lumen was visible as anechoic structure. In conclusion, indirect ultrasound imaging method was sufficient to visualize the organs sized less than 10 mm using 3-15 MHz transducer in which was currently widely used in animal health care clinics.

Abstract

Iron (Fe) is considered as one group of metals that can be used as degradable metal implants (Schinhammer et al. 2010). Previous implantation studies have used porous Fe which purposes to increase the rate of degradation (Daud and Hermawan 2013). Changes in the condition of metal implants due to degradation and peri-implant muscle tissue reactions in the body can be observed using radiographic modality (Noviana et al. 2013). The aim of this study was to assess the radiographic density of implants, peri-implants and peri-implants-muscle as a response to Fe porous implants on the femur of the rats.
