THE ENHANCEMENT OF COMMUNICATION SKILLS AND MASTERY OF CONCEPTS IN SOLUBILITY AND SOLUBILITY PRODUCT LESSON BY LEARNING MODEL OF GUIDED INQUIRY

Abstract

The objective of this research is to describe effectiveness of the learning model of guided inquiry in improving communication skills and mastery of concepts in solubility and solubility product lesson. Samples in this research were students of State Senior High School 1 Tumijajar of classes XI Sciences 3 and XI Sciences 4 even semester School Year 2011-2012 that have equal academic abilities. This research used a quasi experiment method with Nonequivalent Control Group Design. Effectiveness of the learning model of guided inquiry was measured by significant differences in control class and experiment class, shown by significant gain. Based on the results of this research, average value of N-gain for communication skills in control and experiment class were 0,59 and 0,66; and the average value of N-gain for mastery of concepts in control and experiment class were 0,39 and 0,55. Hypothesis testing in this research used test two average different with t-test.  The hypothesis result test show that class that used learning model of guided inquiry had higher communication skills and mastery of concepts than class with conventional learning model. This indicated that learning model of guided inquiry was effective to improving communication skills and mastery of concepts in solubility and solubility product lesson.  Keywords: guided inquiry, communication skills and mastery of concepts

Abstract

This research aimed to describe: 1) conditions and potential of instructional materials use now, 2) effectiveness,3) efficiency,and 4) attractiveness. Research approach used is research and development. This research was conducted at SMAN 13 Bandar Lampung SMAN 15 and SMAN 16 Bandar Lampung. Collection of data through observation, unstructured interviews, questionnaires and tests. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and n-Gain. The conclusion of this research are: 1) conditions of learning are still teacher centered, characteristics of student at the age of 15-17 years are less motivated to learn use learning resources textbooks. So the potential for development of teaching materials in modules. 2) Products modules effective with category index gain medium, average value of n-Gain experimental class 0.47 > control class 0.39. 3) The use of module efficient in learning, with efficiency values of 1.3. 4) The attractiveness of module in the category of attractive (88.21%).Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan: 1) kondisi dan potensi bahan ajar yang ada dan digunakan saat ini, 2) efektivitas, 3) efisiensi, dan 4) kemenarikan. Pendekatan penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian dan pengembangan.  Penelitian ini dilakukan di SMAN 13 Bandar Lampung, SMAN 15 Bandar Lampung, dan SMAN 16 Bandar Lampung.  Pengumpulan data menggunakan observasi, wawancara tidak terstruktur, angket dan tes. Data dianalisis secara statistik deskriptif dan n-Gain. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah: 1) kondisi pembelajaran masih berpusat pada guru, karakteristik siswa di usia 15-17 tahun kurang termotivasi untuk belajar menggunakan sumber belajar buku paket.  Sehingga berpotensi untuk dikembangkan bahan ajar berupa modul. 2) Produk modul efektif dengan kategori indeks gain sedang, rata-rata nilai n-Gain kelas eksperimen 0,47 > kelas kontrol 0,39. 3) Penggunaan modul efisien digunakan dalam pembelajaran, dengan nilai efisiensi 1,3. 4) Daya tarik modul dalam kategori menarik (88,21%).Kata Kunci: bahan ajar, modul, kesetimbangan kimia
