Abstract

The research aimed at studying the effect of moisture content, package and storage period on mitochondrial inner membrane protein of soybean seed. The research was conducted in the laboratory of Seed Technology and Microbiology of Gadjah Mada University from May 2002 to August 2003. A Randomized Complete Block Design was used in the experiment with three factors and three replications. The first factor was moisture content consisted of three levels, i.e. 8%, 10%, and 12%. The second was three kinds of packages namely polyethylene plastic, wheat and aluminium foil. The third was the storage period, i.e. 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 months. Data collected were analyzed by analysis of variance and Duncan Multiple Range Test. Regression and correlation analysis were done to study the correlation between germination, vigor and protein content of mitochondria inner membrane. Record was made on protein content of mitochondrial inner membrane and its electrophoresis profile, electrical conductivity, germination and vigor. The result showed that moisture content, packaging and storage period had significant influences on protein content of the mitochondria inner membrane and its electrophoresis profile. Inner membrane protein of mitochondrial had a positive correlation with germination and vigor. It was concluded that moisture content, package and storage period affected inner membrane protein content of mitochondria and its protein electrophoresis profile. The protein content of mitochondrial inner membrane, germination and vigor of soybean seed stored in aluminium foil sack at 8%, 10% and 12% moisture content did not decreased within 6 months. Cell membrane damage affected mitochondrial damage.   Key words:  Soybean seed, mitochondria inner membrane protein

Abstract

Soil in Waisamu in generally was sandy and grow with Imperata cylindrica. The aim of our experiment were to sandy soil remedied through ela sagu compost, increase growth and production of local corn. The experiment was important in attempting to make the best of sandy soil function become agriculture soil, in order to cultivate and increasinggrowth and production of local corn to improve the sustanaibility of food supply.The experiment was conducted in Waisamu and consisted of two factors and three replications, using  Randomized Complete Block Design. The first factor was compost dosage,  consisting of five levels, i.e. 0 ton per hectare, 7.5 ton per hectare, 10 ton per hectare, 12.5 ton per hectare, 15 ton per hectare. The second factor was delima corn. The variables observed for compost quality were C/N ratio, mineral content N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, and  initial macro and micro nutrient of soil. Height and leaf area of plant, length, weigh, diameter of corn ear and weight of dry shelled were observed for growth and production of plant. The results proved that C-organic content, macro and micro nutrient in compost can increase organic substance, macro and micro nutrient of soil,improving plant growth and local corn production. Ela sagu compost can remedied sandy soil. The higher dosage until 15 ton per hectare of the compost the higher of growth and productionof corn.

Abstract

This? research was aimed to study fatty acid changes during soybean seed storage and to find method of soybean storage to maintain low free fatty acid content and high germination and vigor up to 6 months. The research was conducted at the Chemistry Laboratory of Mathematic and Natural Science Faculty, Pattimura University from May to December 2007. The experimental design used was factorial Experiment in Split- Split Plot Design, consisted of three factors, i.e. moisture content (8. 10 and 12%) as main plot, packaging materials (polyethylene, wheat and aluminium foil) as sub plot, storage period (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 months) as sub-sub plot. Data were analyzed by analysis of variance and Duncan Multiple Range Test. Regression and correlation analysis were done to study the correlation between germination, vigor and free fatty acid. The results showed that fatty acid of soybean seed during storage at all levels of moisture content in wheat sack increased faster than that of other sacks. The free fatty acid content, germination and vigor of soybean seed stored in aluminium foil at all levels of? moisture content slowly decreased within 6 months. Free fatty acid content had a significant negative correlation with germination and vigor. Keywords: soybean seed, fatty acid, storage, seed viability

Abstract

Jagung putih memiliki kemampuan untuk beradaptasi pada kondisi lingkungan yang sub optimum serta merupakan makanan pokok bagi masyarakat di kabupaten Maluku Barat Daya. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui (1) kemampuan jagung putih beradaptasi jika ditanam di luar habitat aslinya terutama pada tanah regosol dan kambisol; (2) dosis pupuk organik ela sagu terbaik bagi pertumbuhan dan produksi jagung putih yang ditanam pada tanah regosol dan kambisol; (3) dosis pupuk dan jenis tanah yang menghasilkan pertumbuhan dan produksi jagung tertinggi.. Percobaan faktorial ini menggunakan Rancangan Kelompok Lengkap Teracak terdiri dari dua faktor dan tiga ulangan. Faktor pertama adalah jenis tanah (A), yaitu rogosol (A1) dan kambisol (A2). Faktor kedua adalah dosis pupuk organik ela sagu (B), yaitu tanpa pemberian pupuk (B0); 7,5 t ha-1, (B1); 10 t ha-1. (B2); 12,5 t ha-1 (B3); 15 t ha-1 (B4). Peubah yang diamati antara lain tinggi tanaman, jumlah dan luas daun; panjang, diamater, dan berat tongkol per tanaman, berat pipilan kering per petak, serapan hara N, P, K. Data dianalisis menggunakan analisis varian taraf 5% dan uji berganda Duncan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa semua peubah dari tanaman yang diberi 15 t ha -1 kompos baik pada tanah regosol maupun kambisol lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan dosis lainnya. 15 t ha-1 kompos pada tanah regosol menghasilkan N, P, K tertinggi yang diindikasikan oleh pertumbuhan dan produksi jagung putih tertinggi dibanding dengan kambisol. Jagung putih lebih mampu beradaptasi pada tanah regosol
